Before anyone starts i do not have any link for this but last night my mate who is a groundsman at Leicester was saying that Leicester are in talks about taking James Milner on a season long loan from Newcastle and is supposed to be on the cards, although i know that this is unlikely because of Levein's dsilike for loans but if it does happen i would just like to say that you heard it here first.

I reckon he would be a good loan signing. The only problem i have with him his that he hasnt played many matches recently and may struggle for the first few months, even if it is in the championship.

But we need players in the squad who can come in when others get injured and maybe Milner can do this.

Looks like Weso wont get much of a chance if this goes through :(

But Milner is a good player, lets hope if he impresses CL that we have a view to buy or something, Not like Bent.

How come all rumours start off with something like "my mate who is a groundsman at Leicester"?

I think if he goes to anyone it would be somewhere like Sunderland. Although he is a left sided midfielder which we are short of so there is a very slight possibility.

Milner's profile on NUFC.co.uk:

James Milner, joined The Magpies on 2 July 2004, signing a five-year contract. A very promising left sided midfielder cum winger, James was fast-tracked into the Leeds first team squad during the 2002/03 season. Possessing an abundance of skill and a good reader of the game, he made his full debut as a substitute at West Ham in November 2002 to become the second-youngest player to play in the Premiership at 16 yrs and 309 days, James was also the second youngest player to represent Leeds United, behind the legendary Peter Lorimer.

Milner impressed for the England U17 side in the 2002 summer tournament and his mature performances helped him force his way into senior football at such a young age. He went on to break Wayne Rooney's record as the youngest ever Premiership scorer by four days, aged just aged 16 and 357 days when he secured a win for Leeds at Sunderland in December. 2002.

At the start of the 2003/04 he was told he would be used sparingly in a 'substitutes role, but under caretaker manager Eddie Gray, he made the left-wing position his own and continued to improve with every game, despite the team suffering relegation in May 2004. All in all he made 30 Premiership appearances last season for Leeds, scoring three times.

Would be a phenominal signing for us but I really can't see it happening.

Not least of which Newcastle would have to pay some of his wages.:unsure::ph34r:

Would be an amazing signing for us - left sided, goalscorer, creative, young, can take on players, good attitude, and has had top level experience for several clubs. If this was on the cards I would fancy our chances of playoffs next season for sure.

As for loan signings, I'm not too keen on them either ..

To be honest I agree with others postings here that he'd prob go to another prem club than drop down a division. I'm sure the newly promted teams would have thought about him. Sunderland would prob be safest bet for him being from the north and having been at Leeds and Newcastle.. (as opposed to Wigan and West Ham)

i'd like to see CL try to get Chopra from Newcastle instead on loan

No No No, Forest got him last season or season before on loan and he was AWFUL

Can't see it happening. He is too high profile to come to us.

Would be amazed if this were to be true, very highly rated and as far as CL has stated we are in the market for a striker and left back.

Tend to agree that the most likely destination for somebody of Milner's ability would be a club in the premiership.

My mate from Leeds used to skipper him when he were a kid.

And I don't think we have a hope in hell of loaning him.

Im sure Milner played a load of games for newcastle last year and i asked newcastle fan and he said we have no chance as he will be playing a lot for them next year! They do have a massive squad tho, and miracles do happen sometimes! lol

I doubt we'll be getting him in after his latest performance, Souness might want to keep him:

ZTS Dubnica 1-3 Newcastle

Newcastle established a comfortable first-leg lead over Slovakian side ZTS Dubnica in the Intertoto Cup after scoring twice in the first 10 minutes.

Striker Michael Chopra claimed his first goal for Newcastle, slipping the ball past Dusan Pernis on four minutes.

Alan Shearer got the second three minutes later, forcing the ball in after Charles N'Zogbia's cross.

Just before the interval Igor Drzik headed home, but James Milner's clever lob restored Newcastle's two-goal lead.

The scoreline flattered Newcastle, who for long periods were outplayed by Dubnica in stifling hot conditions.

But the Slovakian side were undone by their inability to contain Milner, who pushed forward to support Shearer in attack in the second half.

Just before his goal Milner superbly weaved his way past a succession of Dubnica defenders only to hit the post with his final shot.

Milner was heavily involved in Newcastle's opening goal, his astute pass releasing Chopra, who calmly slotted home.

Soon after Newcastle doubled their advantage with Shearer on hand to prod home at the far post.

Having established almost total control of the game Newcastle relaxed, allowing Dubnica to dominate in midfield.

First Marian Adam hit the post after rounding Steve Harper, while the Newcastle goalkeeper made a superb triple save, twice denying Drzik and then foiling Peter Kiska.

Just before the interval Dubnica got a deserved goal, Tesak powering a header past Harper after Drzik swung in a cross from the right.

Newcastle play the second leg at St James' Park next Saturday.

If they get past Dubnica, they are likely to face Deportivo la Coruna in the semi-finals, with Lazio and Marseille potential final opponents.

I can't see it happening to be honest, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong on this one!
