He completely snuffed out Robert Koren, who has been a constant menace against us for years. He is a great passer, without trying to over-do it and defensively he's very good, very Michael Carrick-esque. More than happy for him to be in the team if he plays like that, but the way King has played this season I expect him back in soon and I shan't argue with that as King for me is one of our best players.

Yes good post.

Koren was very very quiet yesterday and James has to take credit for that.

I like the lad, has good potential and only going to get better. I've said before, i think he's similar to Wellens and likely to be his long term replacement. Very early days for the lad though so lets give him time

As someone alluded to above, it is all about the formation....... ;)

Seriously, King, Drinkwater and James are all 'modern' players, they are not hard tackling defensively, neither do they drive forward in attack or play the creative playmaker role, which of course makes them totally unsuited for 4-4-2.

No their role is to sit in the middle of the park and look after the ball, which they did very well on sunday, especially as it was only the second game playing in that style.......

Thought id post this in here also as its relevant!

Man Utd fan here, just like to check in on the ex Utd players and see how they are settling in..!!!

Interested to read the many different opinions on James, one thing to remember is that before signing for yous he had been injured for 18+ months and playing for LCFC are his FIRST games back since recovering - give him chance....he may well be a little slow of the mark and even lacking a little confidence but would this not be due to the lengthy injury he had???? and you go on about him not scoring goals... he will!

The most influential players arnt always the ones who run about like idiots, these are the ones who get noticed.... and from reading all the posts it seems that Drinky and James controlled your midfield and stopped them playing so i would say they had a massive influence on the game... and whoever it is who "feels like James is carrying Weight", needs to seriously get to the Opticians

How is De-late playing for you?

Will he ever make a tackle? He just shileds the players and makes no attempt to go for the ball.

We already had 5 non-tackling CM last season, not the best of signings so far!

Ball retention far outweighs tackling.

Du lait has impressed going forward, but looked vulnerable defensively, perhaps because he's been so busy attacking. I feel he simply needs to be a little more disciplined on defence, something that could be said about the entire defensive unit. The hope is that as that unit plays more games together they learn to cover for each other a little better. If that happens, we're looking good

Certainly different.......

You have got to be kidding, I have seen him do a load of sliding tackles etc where he has come out with the ball and passed it forward to start attacks.

One of those players people seem to miss everything they bloody do. He needs to shave his head, grow some dreads or run around like a bellend to start getting noticed.

Only 4 fouls against us yesterday and one of those was the dodgy one in front of the box near the end. That tells us that the players are not diving in recklessly.Cannot play football when you are sitting on your backside.Appreciate it looks as if we are letting them play bit but yestersday the guys stayed on their feet and got the ball back fairly quickly for the most

NFP is certainly taking his time making the changes but we are slowly moving towards a system where our central mids hold a bit deeper as they have Knockeart (and hopefully Marshall) in front of them doing the creative stuff...... :yesyes:

With the mids doing a better job covering the back 4, this releases our fullbacks to get forward and provide some width and allows Marshall to come inside and get more involved.....

Shit, one day soon we might actually be playing some proper, 21st century football..... :trumpet::trumpet:

But he didn't kick or foul anybody Babs, he can't possibly be doing his job properly, he's a defensive midfielder FFS...... :o

Bring back Danns and Wellens...... :P

Very true. Koren had little impact on the game and I can't remember him having a meaningful shot from open play.

You don't need to be reckless, Drinkwater and James showed that.
