Also saw on idiot's FB page (before it was taken down) that he was subject of a football banning order that he had breached 3 times in 2011- clearly an idiot and had the clip from last night posted on his tagged photos

This'll always happen, football is the most deeply tribal of sports and it encourages stereotyping and hatred. It is, in some ways, what we subconsciously want to do even if the rational part of us is telling us to stop being such a spaz.

I'm a Leeds fan and there is doubtless a part of me that wants to believe that all Man United fans are neanderathalic, Turkey banner holding criminal bastards. The reality is, some of my very closest friends are of the red persuasion and i've spoke to many decent, respectable scum (bastards). Damn it. Yet they still chant about Hillsborough, they still chant about Turkey and they do hold their Turkey banners up. It's the tiny fraction royally ****ing the rest of them off, as it always is.

Alas, as it's always been at LUFC. Things have moved on apace, mind. Since the heady days of tearing up seaside resorts in the 80s/early 90s we se little active violence and destruction by Leeds fans. Odd pockets but nothing on that scale and nothing sustained. Then the odd thing will happen and all the years of quiet will be forgotten again, as if they never happened. A small group, the usual few, or one loan sawdust for brains imbecile will grab that brush, stick it in the tar and give us all a good pasting with it on our behalf.

Rationally, you all know it's the ****ing stupid few. It has ever been thus. I've followed the whites for 25 years and met hundreds or maybe thousands of cracking people from all walks of life who share my passion for the club. Some of the kindest and most charming people I know are Leeds fans. But really, they're just people. Like any group of people, you get the good, the bad and the ugly.

It's just the bad and the ugly for Leeds has just a little more devil and a little more Merrick than it does for some other clubs. It's a tiny, lunatic fringe that just don't see the world the way we do and want to tear seats out of away end, throw bottles at people and yeah....yeh...run onto pitches and flap their horrible little hands at players faces. The knobs. It appals (and frustrates) the many as much as it does anybody else sporting any other colours. We'd like shot of them but we just can't seem to shake the ****ers off.

A few things in our defence. We travel in great numbers, greater than pretty much anyone else actually. It's where the drinking culture is at it's most hardcore. It's where the banned fans still reside as their Elland Road cameras are not looking for them in the away ends. It's where the false sense of safety in numbers drives the idiots on (a different mentality is adopted if you are outnumbered to just 500 than if your are to a hearty 5000). It's not an excuse but the odds of shit going down with Leeds away is greater than probably any other club. If it were going to happen to anyone, it's going to happen to the club with the biggest travelling army before any other.

The other element is that role we play. We're everyone's most hated and reviled. If you tell a man enough times that he's a scum bastard thug, he may eventually just start acting like one. As long as we are goaded, provoked and despised as much as we are, there will always be those that will bite. It's a vicious circle.

It's telling that these incidents don't happen at Elland Road any longer. They've been contained but they haven't been removed. We've done much but there is much still to do. One thing i'm certain will never help the progress to a better place is people - other fans or cretins like Dave Jones - throwing a blanket over the whole supporter base and tagging it with a title. Work with us, not against us and everyone could be a winner one day.

I did the opposite but you know, don't let that hold you back from trying to make whatever the point is that you're not making here.

I fear you've failed to understand anything of what I actually said above and just gone about doing your own thing.

But, what you have done is a provide us with another prime example of what i'm talking about. I'm not aware that this chant has ever been sung at the walkers and even when it was sung at FS, it was by the usual nutter fringe of idiots that we should ALL be working together to stop.

Yet you are trying to do exactly like Dave Jones did yesterday and making out as if this stuff is happening now and that it's all Leeds fans involved. I may have misundetstood your sentiment but that's how it comes across. It's terribly narrow minded.

The thing that is most pathetic about this incident is that it happend when Leeds scored an equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday. Talk about small time. The guy is probably going to face some jail time and be banned from ever attending a football match again. I can sort of imagine running onto the pitch (not assaulting a player) in a situation such as Manchester City's last game of the season last season, but scoring an equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday in an early season match.... How brain dead is the guy?

I can't be arsed to read through the thread again but am interested to know if it has yet been decided if everyone from Leeds can be classed as scum? I'd hate to miss out.

Thanks in advance.

Yep i agree, the thing i find even more pathetic after seeing the incident is the said idiot had a big manic grin on his face ..... he was clearly so proud of himself for what he'd done :nono:

I've also corrected your spelling ;)

Not that it matters but I thought that equaliser was the correct spelling in this instance?

According to what i saw, it wasn't i dunno all i saw was a red line under 2 of the words indicating a wrong spelling

Now we're into a proper and serious discussion.

It's football, it's equaliser. No other way to spell it.

I don't really think it matters whether it was an equaliser or a winner mind, the 8 pints of wife beater he'd have had before kick off probably had a lot more significance to the outcome than what the goal meant.

The thing that worries me is the kind of shite Leroy Rosenior was spouting last night on the BBC regarding allocated seats and how vital they are.

FFS this was one cretin and now all football fans are scum again?

This moron's actions aside there's some pretty cool pictures of the Leeds end from Friday night floating around.

Agree with you completely. Some racist chants from a section of fans in Serbia, some cockend running onto the pitch in Yorkshire - that doesn't mean that we're somehow back in the dark days of the 80's. The demonisation of football fans is so incredibly over the top whenever something like this happens.

The reaction has, as certainly Leeds fans expected, been rather over the top.

There was talk that seats were torn up and missiles thrown but they seem to have been embelishments to try and make it all seem worse than it was. What actually took place was the usual moronic chanting between fans.

Wednesday at Leeds - Watch out for turks carrying knives

- You're just a town full of paedo's (Savile related)

Leeds to Jones - Usual paedo shit

- Savile shags who he wants (in not especially witty and well advised retort to the Wendy's chants). It was obviously totally in dark jest but not clever.

But this stuff goes on all the time, it was hardly anything new and to my ears, I hears the Turkey chants before any of the others although I may have biased ears. We have probably had more than a dozen different clubs chant Turkey stuff at us over the years. Leeds are far from angels in the sick chanting stakes but none of what gets slung at Jones is anything like the awful stuff Spurs fans used to fire at Campbell. It's there at all grounds, rightly or wrongly.

So all in all, it was an ordinary derby atmosphere with the addition of one lunatic that everyone - not least every Leeds fan I have seen comment on the matter - has totally pilloried. Even this type of incident is nothing new either, it's been going on with regularity for years. Read this:

Yes, it should be denounced and the idiot dealt with strongly but the hysterical reaction - especially from Dave Jones - is mental.
