LordFox Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 Ok, I was asked a very simple question tonight by my daughter, is a Jaffa Cake a cake to a biscuit? Yes I know the name has cake in it but I don't think it's that cut and dry.
Jimothy Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 It's a cake. When they get old biscuits go soft, cake's go hard. VAT is payable on chocolate covered biscuits, but not on chocolate covered cakes. McVities took the HMRC to court in the early 90's to prove their product was a cake and therefore zero-rated for VAT and won.
yorkie1999 Posted 31 October 2012 Posted 31 October 2012 The differance is that Cakes go hard when they're stale, biscuits go soft.

MPH Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 who really dips cake into their coffee/ tea? They're a biscuit.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 Had the greatest Jaffa Cake-a-likes in Greece a few weeks back - you would not believe how good the jelly to cake ratio was A little Jaffa Cakey tip: - take two slices of bread - insert 7 - 8 segments of a Terry's Chocolate Orange - lightly butter the outisde, toast for 2-3 minutes in a sandwich press Basically try making a cheese toastie but substitute the cheese for Chocolate Orange. Result is a delicious hot sandwich that basically tastes like a massive inside-out Jaffa Cake
Rocket-Ron Posted 1 November 2012 Posted 1 November 2012 I once made Jaffa cakes.. Tasted Bloody awful and cost about 5x more!!
