But I think the World Cup has huge implications and effects on its hosts, the whole circus rolls around the world awing the people. I think the World Cup is more than just a money maker, and some of our fans are wallowing in their own cave of self pity to see the big picture.

Of course, money talks. But all this could make Football better globally, there are so many sleeping giants and pools of people that will produce some amazing footballers, I just hope our Leagues stay strong and we can see them on our pitches mixing with our players; it worked for Spain . . . . I was just looking at this thread for a couple of minutes while overseeing my 8-year-old's bedtime routine from a distance.

She came and asked what it was all about. I explained that someone at a Russian football club had said they were pleased that they had no black players, which she said she thought was "really stupid".

She then asked what Thracian was saying. I tried to explain in as neutral a manner as I could manage (despite being a lefty, I don't like the idea of indoctrinating children) and mentioned that I'd heard he ran a stall at the market....

"He must be a complete idiot", she said, "I'm not buying anything from his stall!"
