This guy should find a job.

I was just pointing this out in response to the previous post.

I've applied for a pub near Charlton, with this cover letter:

"I have attached my CV in response to the advertised vacancy and wish to be considered for the role.

I may not have any experience in the field of bar work but we've all got to start somewhere to gain that experience to progress ourselves and our minds. All I need is someone to allow me to show them my full potential as to what I can do and achieve within a working environment, and hopefully this person is you."

Now straight away, this is poor - you don't just shout "I've no experience!!" because guess what employers are looking for? If you don't have experience of the role, focus on attributes that would be beneficial to the role.

Got rejected from Tesco and McDonalds ;)

I'd get used to the Jobcentre then.

If you get turned down from Tesco's there is no hope, generally if you walk through the door to the interview room without destroying something or someone you get employed.

What's your interviewing skills like Lamby? Do you practice being interviewed? Any one at the job centre given you a practise and given you feedback?

The reason i ask is that the interview can make or break you. Trying to be as nice as possible here with you mate but i've seen that pic of you and Chris Powell who i assume is one of your idols even in that situation you couldn't crack a smile. I don't know you but if you walk in to an interview with that facial expression it gives off the impression of "I'm not bothered"

This was in the advert: "If you don't have experience in all of these things don't worry - if we think you have what it takes then we'd love to give you the training and opportunity to shine."

I've been there 3 years next month, I think I'm used to it by now.

I didn't even reach an interview stage for Tesco.

I've never been given feedback to any interview, I've been told I'm good when I had the voluntary position interview though. I think the only thing that lets me down is the lack of experience and the gap of employment between September 2011 and now. I can talk on and on if I really wanted to in interviews.

Yes - but if you just say "I've got no experience, but I hope you'll give me a chance", you're not going to get far. If you've no experience, why not set out a few skills that would be useful in such a role, or aspects of your personality that would help in such a job - for instance being good at communicating with people, being that front-line, customer service sort of worker...

I have a spreadsheet that I put my daily spend down on then a monthly one with outgoings and income. I am to the bones with my cut down yet I am still over at thge end of the month so I don't know what yours would look like Lamby.

I did allow myselfa pint today and I do overspend sometimes but I know that it isn't good so accept it is my fault. I am lucky in a way. In July I can cxlaim pension credits which will improve my circumstances by about double. Considering I was just about managing I will be rolling in it but still not able to afford most things.

Got a part time job five hours and if it leads to a few more it will be better than not making the effort. If I was your age Lamby I would do anything to get in work and I am happy to allow a younger person take my place in the job queue if they are willing to work at it.

I would suggest speaking to someone at the job centre for assistance. By the look of that first line in you're cover letter you need assistance and you need to look at what sort of jobs you are applying for. Try working in a mail room or something stick that out for 6 months and work up from there or something or if you need 65 quid for the course as your folks or better yet try and get a mail route or labouring job just for a couple of weeks.

There is plenty of options out there for you but sitting on your arse and just sending out your resume isn't working for you and hasn't in the last 3 years. So it's time you went out and asked around put on some aftershave, do your hair and iron a shirt and stick your head in 400 offices, shops, restuarants what ever and ask if there is any work going. You will get more no's than yes's but i'm sure someone will love that you've gone out and shown initiative. Just remember beggers can't be choosers and you might have to work weekends or do a shit job for 12 months before you get the oppurtunity or experience in admin but reckon it's better than a life time on the dole.

Comes down to common sense sometimes

There's a new carpet shop opened near me so gonna pop in there tomorrow and ask.

That's more like it a good old fashioned way of trying to find a job, that will require you to work weekends tho but short term pain for long term game etc.

Lamby have had advice on CV's and covering letters? That covering letter is onbe I would send if I didn't want the job. I know I have sent applications off similar. Only because they are jobs slightly further of my job search range.

Most ads say something like experience not necessary as full training will be given, so for those you have to say you are a quick learner and willing to be trained. Some say experience preferred .

The longer you are out of work the harder it will become and the officials at the JobCewntre will scrutinise your searches more than others. Have they not suggested jobs or looked at your CV?

Lamby - agencies like Brook Street have an abundance of admin related work. Go in, hand over your cv and tell them that you are available at short notice.

Also Bookmakers always need staff. They have quite a high staff turnover. Go on Ladbrokes, Hills, Coral, Betfred etc websites to look for jobs.

Thats not my actual cover letter though, this is:

I am excellent on a computer and have full knowledge of Microsoft Office as shown by my A2 Level in ICT. I'm also able to do data input easily and accurately. I have done some volunteering as an Office Admin Assistant last September so I know the necessary job requirements within the administration sector. If given something to do that I'm unsure of I find that I'm a quick learner when things are being explained and am able to complete the task with no other help afterwards.

Please see my CV for any further information if required.

I'm hopeful that you find me to be the all round person who you are searching for to fill this vacancy.

Many Thanks,

Lamby when you apply for that bar job actually go in to the bar or ring the manager and express how keen you are! I know you wont do this and I don't know why........

Sometimes just a small follow up phonecall of ''just calling to see if my application reached you, i look forward to hearing from you'' is a nice way of showing some interest.

Of course you probably arent THAT interested but all the job needs to do is get you moving up to bigger and better things, which hopefully it should

Just remembered earlier got my volunteering tomorrow. Thought I'd got a day at home.

Have to work out how to spread my five hours of paid work. I must do more than that on my PC.

Go and see City on expenses.three hours, write a report in pub after game one hour, type it up one hour.

Sorted.

I'm even tempted to ask at the Fruit & Veg stall for a job

Given your aversion to Saturday work I wouldn't bother

Posted

They're open all week

Rule of the work place, let the shit kickers work the shit shifts......as you would be the new kid you get the shit shift. Plus retails busiest day is on a Saturday but as i said you will have to put up with that for 12 months so you have something on your resume and then you can apply for a 9-5 Monday to Friday office job.
