Lobsterboyuk Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Does anybody have any recommendations for a local graphic designer? I need a company logo designing and would prefer to throw a bone to a local designer. Brief will be simple and straightforward, might need a few proofs before signing off on a finished design.
whoareyaaa Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 PM me the details of exactly what you're looking for and I will give you a price.
Rincewind Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Don't know any personally but DNO may be taking aboard one to help with the project. Contact Action Homeless. They may welcome the chance to get some work to help their career.
Carl the Llama Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Misunderstood the title - I thought you were a graphic designer looking for a logo for your company. "Cheeky bastard" came to mind.
Babylon Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Send us a brief and I can give you an estimate.

Have you got an email/phone number for them or should I just contact them on a general number/website? The one you use not good enough That would make a cracking avatar for me, sorry Stevie, your days might be numbered

I know they were looking for sub-seditors for the magazine DNO and one applicant has graphic design experience. I should think if you contact the office they may be able to give more info.
MC Prussian Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Funny you mention that. I'm myself in the process of starting a company with two friends of mine and the whole CD/CI thing is a huge issue. At the moment, we're aiming at a complete relaunch/completely overhauled corporate design by late spring the earliest (the company's existing for about a year now, but we're going for a Ltd. and the name will remain the same). I guess it's easier to start off with the logo and deduct everything else from there? I'd appreciate any input from people in the know myself - but please only professional assistance, since home-made items tend to look rather crude. We do carry an English name, so I assume some of you may have a better grasp of our concept or a fresh take on it as opposed to many of my locals. Before getting it all started, I do have a few questions: - What's a realistic timeframe for a new logo? - Whom amongst you can offer both graphic design as well as website design and corporate design (business cards, brochures, etc.)? - Do some of you have a website with samples we can have a look at? - What's the usual procedure with CD? I have approached only one agency myself so far and am a bit helpless as to what steps to take after one another - Does a brief description of our own initial logo ideas/thoughts suffice at the beginning (including our business sector, our preferred colour choice and the image/the values we're aspiring to)? - What costs are we looking at? We're a startup, so there's only little money available at the moment. We do know that we can't get a proper logo for cheap, so compromises need to be made along the way. Cheers for the help.

Depends how much research will be done and how many concepts you have done, I'd say 2-4 weeks with liaison back and forth is realistic. - Whom amongst you can offer both graphic design as well as website design and corporate design (business cards, brochures, etc.)? - Do some of you have a website with samples we can have a look at? - What's the usual procedure with CD? They would want to know about your company, visions, services etc. and if you have any deadlines and what your budget is - Does a brief description of our own initial logo ideas/thoughts suffice at the beginning (including our business sector, our preferred colour choice and the image/the values we're aspiring to)? Without sounding harsh, with most client's their ideas/thoughts creatively, along with colour choices are generally awful. So I would leave this for the design agency, who should research your industry and, along with a brief and talking about your business and what you are after etc. provide all this for you. That is what you are paying for, so you shouldn't be in effect providing this yourself. We - What costs are we looking at? We're a startup, so there's only little money available at the moment. We do know that we can't get a proper logo for cheap, so compromises need to be made along the way. How long is a piece of string? I'd say anything from £500 for a few k on average, really depends how much time you want putting in. Have put some comments above. Also, generally you are thinking of this as a logo - really a corporate identity is so much more, you should be looking at a range of branding, how it will apply to a range of media such as printed media, website, online, other digital, livery (if applicable) etc. if you have the budget a brand bible/brand guidelines is very important too. As such, you shouldn't be looking for someone to "make you a logo", they should be creating a brand for you. With this involves a lot of research, in fact most of the time will go on research and experimenting. You might end up with a purely typographic logo which you could recreate in 10 seconds - but the research and considered design that goes into this will be well worth it in the long run.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Can we have some name of these companies? I know you have a serious job, but I do despise the 'thinktanks' the government employs to make logos on behalf of them. They pay millions for something you could find in a Blue Peter competition. Not knocking anyone's jobs before anyone says so

The Year Of The Fox Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 What companies? The companies wanting a logo designed. Would love to give it a go (I'd actually struggle to use Paint)

For me it's almost a subconscious perception that people will have of an organisation and it's important that the first impression is right. I think it's very subtle but people are affected by branding more than they might consciously realise. I can use my (limited but free!) experience over the years working for agencies/corporates to resemble a professional overall branding but just need some help with the graphical element and typeface of the logo, that part is a deep skill IMO and not to be messed with by amateurs. If I had the spare cash or needed to actively promote my business I would do a professional branding from day one.
Lobsterboyuk Posted 29 January 2013 Author Posted 29 January 2013 The companies wanting a logo designed. Would love to give it a go (I'd actually struggle to use Paint) Are you serious? I'll send you my brief if you want but I will publish your result on foxestalk for critique
danny. Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Are you serious? I'll send you my brief if you want but I will publish your result on foxestalk for critique There you go sorted - you don't need to pay a designer now, a plumber will do it for you FOC in MS Paint.
sphericalfox Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 Without giving everyone your company name...what's your business? What's your industry?
MC Prussian Posted 29 January 2013 Posted 29 January 2013 We're in film production, particularly ads and corporate videos for smaller and mid-sized companies with a knack for quality. Later on, we'd also like to move into our preferred field - shorts and features. But first, we need a solid financial basis and said business is a tad bit risky for a startup. We don't want to get too much involved with venture capital right now (unless the investors have little to no interest in interfering with the whole production process).

Im not trolling, i respect peoples line of work and the fact that you want to set a business up.
