Alexikokopops Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 I would assume the Champions League game may well have already been a dead rubber perhaps... I read an article about how games in the Euros were often fixed, for example between countries like Malta and Andorra where there's nothing to play for, likely to go unnoticed, decent betting odds and lots of money to be made for players who earn next to nothing out of the game anyway. Makes sense. Either that or a qualifying round where the English team were a heavy favourite and nobody's going to notice if a goal's conceded in a certain time period.

Makes sense. Likely. It'd probably be easier to get a couple of players involved in those cases too.
bigbadbaldy Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 I see what you did there Least someone did...
Dan Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Naturally thinking the fixed CL game was Chelsea v Barcelona. That was a complete and utter disgrace.
brockmyster Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Is it just me that really wants Met Police FC to have been invovled in one
Tom17LCFC Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 The head of the Asian match fixing group was 'Dan Tan'
Jon the Hat Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 How long til someone voices the old 'we need to pay our refs more to stop them from being crooked wankers' argument that is so popular when talking about politicians? Did anyone say that? A few people said they all took the max allowances becuase they treated them as part of their pay rather than expenses. I dont recall anyone suggesting higher pay would have stopped the thieving.
Langston Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Swiss matches? Not the first time we've been in the spotlight. Similar cases were reported in late 2009 and early 2012. Whatever happened to that Chechen guy that owned Xamax Neuchatel? He was bent as they come.
Bugg Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Whatever happened to that Chechen guy that owned Xamax Neuchatel? He was bent as they come. I read about that guy in an article in WSC, he came across as a complete lunatic
MC Prussian Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Whatever happened to that Chechen guy that owned Xamax Neuchatel? He was bent as they come. Oh, that guy. Bulat Chagaev, son-in-law of the last Chechen Communist Party representative and a good friend of the current president Kadyrov. Chagaev was found guilty of fraudulent behaviour (for forging a Bank of America bank warranty in the amount of over 35 million US dollars), tax fraud, money laundering and the likes. Behaved like a modern and real version of Tony Montana, sacked the majority of the staff upon arrival (all in all, he fired almost 50 people), brought several high-profile players (mostly from La Liga) to Neuchâtel, failed to pay the wages which led to the threat of a players' strike, as well as a deficit of close to six million Swiss Francs (£4.2m) in late 2011 - a points deduction by the Swiss football league was a logical consequence. Xamax had to declare bankruptcy about a year ago which meant the club had to start anew in the fifth-highest league. Xamax is now led by a fans committee and owned by a conglomerate of local businessmen. They play in front of a couple of hundred fans each game and that in one of the prettiest modern stadiums and one of the prettiest cities in the country. Chagaev was released from custody in May last year and is still being prosecuted. Until a verdict is reached, he's still able to manage his Dagmara Trading company, with an office in Geneva.
Kitchandro Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 With El Empty on the suggestion that FIFA don't want to introduce technology for a reason.
Danizen Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Either that or a qualifying round where the English team were a heavy favourite and nobody's going to notice if a goal's conceded in a certain time period. Good guess. Apparently it was Liverpool vs Debrecen in 2009.Debrecen's keeper was bribed to make sure there was over 2.5 goals but typical Liverpool only scored one!
RedHux Posted 4 February 2013 Posted 4 February 2013 Liver-link :D Also.....Andelecht from many moons ago.
Jimothy Posted 5 February 2013 Posted 5 February 2013 Liver-link So basically Liverpool were so shit, they couldn't score more than one when the goalkeepers only intention was to let as many goals in as possible.
