Guest Col city fan Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 Which is a nicely balanced view Col - I could argue that most of his signings are average (or as you pointed out, he manages to turn them into average ie Knocky) and some are equally as poor as any Sven signings Vardy, Whitbread, James, Futacs, that he lacks confidence in younger players, turning to old hands like Gallagher who have consistently under performed in the past two/three seasons as a plan B when struggling in a game........ The young hungry players thing is also a myth for me - the players who seem to put the most in are guys like Konch, Nugent and Morgan, all of who are old hands. As you say - he isn't all bad but the excuses of last season at this stage (when he surrendered any chance of the play offs with a whimper) were that he needed a summer to rebuild the team - he has had three transfer windows now and spent several million on new players yet we are struggling again as other teams (and Leeds Bolton and Forest are all starting to turn it around just behind us) look to be moving upwards. It is a shame, and I personally have sat and tried to be quiet this season rather than get embroiled in constant rows about him being a good bloke etc but I don't think he has what it takes - believe it or not, I want him to get us up (don't think he'll last 10 games if he does, but hey ho) and a couple of times this year he has had the team playing well by all accounts. If he does lose on Tuesday or even struggle in a draw then I would suggest his ideas have run out and it might be time to admit defeat - but a couple of wins and he could be shining again - a draw was the worst he could have done yesterday really and he definitely failed that test Fair enough mate.. As you know I'm one of the ones that actually reads what you are writing and appreciate it, though I don't always agree. Regarding the 'young and hungry' players I can't agree with you on this. Sure, the likes of Nuge and Morgan DO usually put in a shift, but so do DeLaet, Drinkwater and Matt James. Regarding 'turning to old hands', well don't most managers do this from time to time? The problem is and has been for some time, these 'old hands' just aren't good enough. Finally, I do agree with you that the formation we play doesn't often get the best out of the players we have. Ben Marshall, I think, MUST be better than how he has looked this season and Knocky has got to be played just off the front two to get the best out of him IMO. Sticking the pair of them out on the wing in a 4-4-2 and asking them to defend is wasting their talents. It's all opinions buddy.
johnny the fox Posted 3 March 2013 Author Posted 3 March 2013 I hate you all. Pearson not good enough for Leicester? I don't think I've ever read a more retarded thread in the history of the Internet. retarded is a very ugly word and it is clear you have no idea of the offence it causes, to say this thread is anything of the sort shows you need to grow up a bit..,
Chap84 Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 The problem is if he leaves the club all these 'young hungry players' & 'young talented' or 'gifted' players become crap because unless we have a similar motivational manager they forget how to play remember the likes of Hobbs? The reason for this I think is because there all confidence players they havn't got a decent fight in them unless there being constantly hugged and patted on the back.So although I'm not a Pearson fan I think it would cost to much unless he gets us promoted I would get rid straight after and rebuild in the summer. Just my opinion!
Dickov22 Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 ''Remember the likes of Hobbs?' Not sure I get your point. Do you mean Jack Hobbs the very good centre half Nigel brought to the club? Same one Sven the clown sold on the cheap to Hull and replaced with Sol Bamba.
Thracian Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 For me.... The 'goods' of Pearson: Big reduction on wage bill Bringing through young and hungry players Our home form Good back room staff Don't suffer Stringer Fitness levels of the team Makes generally good signings The 'bads': Our away form is pants, has been all season AND hasn't been rectified Tactically, I think he's limited Doesn't always get the most out of highly talented players... To have Knocky looking pedestrian isn't acceptable Gave away both cups this season IMO hasn't equipped the squad with enough quality to make top two a serious option. Overall, the 'goods' outweigh the 'bads'.. What I won't do and haven't done all season, is not discuss both... Because both ARE apparent IMO. That's a defensible summary although I'd argue with a few things and I'm not sure he doesn't have the quality available to make top two. A disappointment to me is that he has got the players to make top two and simply hasn't been inspiring enough to make more of the various parts. A clear philosophy is one of the missing ingredients. Ruthlessness is another. But also the ability to recognise problems and change things dramatically - and quickly - when necessary. When Pearson makes changes because we're a goal down he'll usually swap one striker for another or one winger for another. when Ferguson changes things he'll put two more strikers on if necessary and he'll try to have seven and eight guys getting forward to join the attacks. Away from home we're a team that rarely takes the brakes off and even at home we quickly apply them if we get ahead of anyone decent. It's time Pearson shed his caution and got more out of the many players we have who can make a difference. Confidence is the bottom line psychologically - the manager needs to get all his players feeling like supermen when they go out and the players need to have complete faith in the boss's ability to tailor the tactics to any situation. That's where ruthlessness stems from and that's why our philosophies must be ingrained in every player. And what we should believe in is attack - and scoring goals. For me the worst sin in football is failing to score because that is what the game's about. Everything about our preparation should be geared towards scoring. And that starts with having the ball, home or away and the sooner the better. We have to make it ours and we have to keep it as if our lives depend on it because - success-wise - it does. Against Blackburn we were excellent in doing exactly that. Against Ipswich we might have needed a different approach to achieving the same aim but we failed to make the necessary adjustments.
Candidcamera Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 This is a really difficult league to get out of. Remember the Martin O'Neill out campaign when in that same seaon he got us promoted. If you looked at that team you would have said similar but they became arguably the best or most successful ever team. If anything this team is younger and potentially can achieve promotion. Get behind the management and team. The position in the league is great and to my mind that means shout them on.
Callabinho Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 The 'bads': Tactically, I think he's limited Doesn't always get the most out of highly talented players... To have Knocky looking pedestrian isn't acceptable Do you have all of the equivalent coaching badges to comment on his tactics? Football manager doesn't count. And Knocky is his own worst enemy at times, Pearson can't hold his hand on the pitch! He is learning his trade and probably won't consistently have a huge impact until he has had a whole season in this country. All foreign players need time to adjust (unless your names Michu) we've seen it time and time again. Other than that you have made some good points.
phillo Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 Bring back sven then weve still got alot to play for come on we might win all our remaining games
Chap84 Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 ''Remember the likes of Hobbs?' Not sure I get your point. Do you mean Jack Hobbs the very good centre half Nigel brought to the club? Same one Sven the clown sold on the cheap to Hull and replaced with Sol Bamba. Yes the same jack Hobbs who suddenly became very poor, he went from player of the season to not having a clue when Pearson left and I think the same would happen to some of our 'very good' young players should Pearson leave again. It's either they can only play a single dimension of football or because there not getting the same 'cuddles' of the gaffer to push them on the pitch. These young unproven players have to have stability all around them which I think is another reason as to why he likes to work with a small group of players and why they become lost at times of change.
Dickov22 Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 I don't remember he becoming poor but if he did, I'd put that down to Sven. Quote Craig Shakespeare 'We couldn't believe Leicester let us have him, and so cheap as well' Pretty sure he then won player of the season under Pearson at Hull.
Happy Fox Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 He is learning on the job which is great if we are aspiring to be in this league next season with improvements to make us further progress but I thought the clubs remit this season was automatic promotion? although we are 8 points behind with a game in hand (Cardiff away) the players seem to be lacking in confidence at this crucial stage of the season which isn't great we need to go on another winning run of about 4 games to get us back into the automatic promotion mix imo, I back us to win our home games because we are excellent at home under NP's tenure but away from home it is costing us big time in other words we are playoff outfit overall which isn't good enough however I would accept it at the last resort. Ou away form is our achilles heel, wether that is due to the personnel or the attitude that NP adopts from home or wether it is a mixture of both I am not to sure but it needs rectifying sooner rather than later.
Candidcamera Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 Pearson has been building a team with character and togetherness. Schmeichel has deserved his place near the top of the league for goalkeepers. De Laet has grown into a very capable RB. Morgan is a rock and definite leader. Keane is such a good prospect and adds pace and intelligence. Konchesky is a battler who should concentrate more on his defensive duties. Marshall is making his way and gaining confidence and perhaps playing out of position. Drinkwater is one for the future and a big reason for our progress. King so far has been disappointing but there are signs he can fill the position and get forward. Knockaert is an exceptional talent who plays better when not tied to the wing but we have 2 big strikers to feed. Nugent has the right character and has done well. Kane is needed as we all know and he may be priceless in the end. Wood is such a good young player and will develop as a leading scorer for the club. Pearson has built this team. His job does involve tactics and media and he has to be left to do the job and then we can see how well be is faring. At the moment he is doing a more than adequate job.

Candidcamera Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 I suppose Man Utd have limitations too ? The sorts of players we all dream of are in the premier league so we must be patient. Pearson has to do what he can with what he has - simple as that. He has annoyed the fans at times with his teams in the cup competitions but we really have only got about 14 or so players who can perform at this level to the hopes of the faithful.
seenitall Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 How rosy you make it all sound. Unfortunately you've simply not bothered to mention our limitations. Or the four points from 5 games
Kevfromle Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 How do you know? I thought you said you stopped going to matches... How many games on sky? Plus streaming! Don't need to be in the stadium to watch these days!
ealingfox Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 bellamy free, campbell 500k, maynard half of what he cost west ham, helguson peanuts.. and yes they have less resources than us,to argue otherwise is misguided. You know Cardiff spent over 10 million in the summer don't you? And Bellamy might have been a free transfer but his wages certainly weren't.
seenitall Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 You know Cardiff spent over 10 million in the summer don't you? And Bellamy might have been a free transfer but his wages certainly weren't. This is classic FT - we are annoyed because Cardiff have spent their way to the top of the league, yet annoyed if our club tries to do the same - wise up suckers - money wins you football matches, that or having the best talent scouts in the league and a fantastic youth policy - we hardly ever play our own grown so the youth thing isn't working and I'd guess our talent scouts are struggling a bit too - hardly MoN are they?

inckley fox Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 Do you have all of the equivalent coaching badges to comment on his tactics? Football manager doesn't count. This comment always annoys me. Is nobody other than a qualified football coach allowed to make observations on tactics? Quite apart from the fact that that would rule every commentator, player, Harry Redknapp and Alex Ferguson out of the equation, it's simply incorrect. You don't have to be capable of coaching tactics in order to spot what they are - and make a correlation between tactics played and matches won. Neither do you have to be a career politician to form an opinion on whether the Prime Minister is doing a good job, or know that Clement Attlee was pretty decent.
shiv Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 How many games on sky? Plus streaming! Don't need to be in the stadium to watch these days! Our games on Sky: Wolves 2-1 Leicester Leicester 1-0 Blackpool Leicester 2-2 Forest Leicester 4-1 Derby Leicester 1-0 Middlesbrough Leicester 2-1 Wolves We dominated the majority of those matches and played pretty well. We've also scored 6 goals twice this season. Not sure what your definition of "exciting football" is, but if you've not found any of our football exciting then you may need to find a new sport.

I agree with what you are saying for me it is quite simple should NP fail to get us automatic promotion or promotion via the playoffs this season, appoint a manager (Roberto Di Matteo or Adkins) that is capable of getting promotion from this league and building in the prem.

Sven' Thai Bride Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 Overall I'm convinced he's got the qualities to potentially be a top class manager in terms of man-management, discipline, and building squads, but I think this season he has made too many mistakes assembling a squad which has the right qualities for a top of the table team. For me the problem lies with the midfield and the bench. King, Drinkwater, and James are too similar a player who aren't either overly creative like Cleverley or got a bit of bite like Spearing; I'm not saying they're not good, but between them we lack options. Also the bench really isn't strong enough. It's been well noted the lack of, not necessarily good players, but game changing options. Also I think attacking experience is really lacking, even as a sub option. This season Pearson has been so adamant on building a youthful side, it at times lacks experience and pedigree. I remember the Forest game earlier in the season when going forward we had Dyer, King, Drinkwater, Marshall, Vardy, Lingard, Schlupp and Waghorn trying to find the winner and they just lacked any sort of conviction. Lets be fair Campbell is an inspired signing for Cardiff, and the two Egyptians at Hull. Squad depth is where the likes of Cardiff, Hull, and even Watford have the edge over the course of the season for the automatics, especially the first two. When we're good, we're unbeatable, but when we need something different, we just don't have it. Our promotion hopes this season will depend of the timing and longevity of our next run. If we time it right we could well nick the autos. I think Pearson needs one more summer to sort it out properly and complete the squad. When he took over the League One season he inherited pretty much a league winning side which he could tweak, whereas the team Sven left behind was a mess. But given his previous success I'd happily afford him one more season. It will all depend on whether he's too stubborn to privately admit his mistakes. The media side of him is frustrating, but I'd rather his style than Holloway or Warnock any day the week. Tactically he needs to improve as well, but hopefully that will get better with experience. He is still quite an inexperienced manager, this only his 5th full year as a manager.
Blueforever Posted 3 March 2013 Posted 3 March 2013 Some of the worse comments I've ever seen.....Pearsons the best manager in the Championship by a mile..Great signings and at times we've played fantastic attacking football best I've ever seen. Yes we've got an issue away from home but Pearson knows that better than any of you C***S. He'll sort it out. With supporters like some of you lot no wonder we only get crowds of 20,000. Most retarded supporters in football
