Promotion not the be-all end-all?

Now dont get me wrong, I would love promotion just as much as any LCFC fan, but am I the only one that thinks not going up this year could be beneficial?

Firstly, i feel that after another pre-season and summer transfer window, we could be the team to rip this league apartproviding we keep Pearson and that there's no mad transfer rush.)

I think we can rip this league apart next year because the calibre of the teams getting relegated (Reading, QPR and Wigan/Villa imo) is not that great

I also think that another year in the championship could be beneficial to our young squad and it will let our team become more class, due to the increase of experience.

Now like i said at the start, dont start calling me a plastic fan etc because i would love this club to be in the top flight, and thats why i go to games, but just another year at the championship title can help us improve imo. Although, this is only if we keep Pearson and co.

I'm just enjoying a successful ride.

Think we'll go up through the playoffs as we play well against good teams who want to play football but if not I'll still be just as enthusiastic next season.

Supporting City is a lifestyle choice.

I'd prefer to go up this year but I'm not going to worry too much if we don't. I'm so confident we'll do it next season with the young players we have now getting better in future.

My only worry is Pearson getting sacked if we're in this division next season, that would be a disaster.

Have you been living under a rock. We've spunked all our money. It's now or never.

Yes but we have the players and our wage budget has vastly improved under NP, so nows its just a case of a few aditions, as well as our young squad growing in confidence+experience which can only end in quality

Beneficial? Absolutely not. The longer we stay down the more difficult it becomes. People say this at the back end of every season, 'well be stronger/the league will be weaker next year'. But it's doesn't work out like that. Certain other clubs will get stronger as well.

Besides, with FFP we're more likely to weaken than strengthen next season.

We have ripped teams apart at times this season but it's a long scrap to get promoted. I can't see us taking the piss and moonwalking over the line like you seem to be suggesting we will if we're still here next season.

And if you don't think Villa will be a force in this league you've got another thing coming.

From a fans point of view, crowds will get lower still and patience will be wearing thin. And tbh, every season this league becomes more and more unenjoyable. I'm fed up with it.

We need to go up as soon as possible, for the good of everyone.

It can also end in failure.

Why you think we'd be a sure thing next season I don't know. Some of our players are inexperienced but there's nothing to say they'll be developed properly next season. It could take them several seasons. Or maybe they'll never develop to the level we'd hope.

All this...

To be honest this is yet another ridiculous thread IMO.

I think we might be better off with another year of consolidation & a couple more quality additions, but that's assuming that we don't lose any of our best players. If we don't go up this year, I'd be very surprised if their wasn't interest in Schmeichel either from the prem or abroad. Wood, Knocky and Schlupp (off to Utd anyway?) could all be targets for bigger clubs as well. I don't think for a second that we'd lose all those players this summer but it does become a danger, the longer we go without promotion. Our top players aren't going to hang around for ever.

I'm sorry but no, why on earth would we be better off with another year in this league?

We probably will lose a couple of players, we can't afford to say no to decent offers.

People need to realise that even if we came straight back down we'd be far better off going up this season.

Agree with all of this, the disaster wouldn't be us not going up but if we were to sack Pearson and then have to start all over again.

We don't really want another year in this league. Money is a massive thing to consider remember, considering our debts especially, promotion to the Premier League is key in that aspect.

I understand people saying let's stay down another year so we can add more quality, but the league gets stronger. But average teams have been promoted before (see Blackpool for example), you don't need a team of superstars to win promotion. In terms of quality, well, we can only really attract the better quality once we are in the Premier League, just like every other team that gets promoted.

Sometimes I think people overrate our players as well. Why would a Premier League team fancy Kasper, for example? There are better goalkeepers out there, a few in our division as well, and probably cheaper players abroad.

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer us to go up this year. I would be worried about us losing players if we don't. But it's also a possibility that we could build stronger foundations for the Prem with another year in the Championship. Cardiff have missed out in the playoff stage for a few years, lost players each year but managed to improve to the point where they should go up automatically this time. You never know. But despite how I started my last post, I think it would be best for us to go up this year.

Of course it could work out like that, but it's more likely that it will be more difficult.

Cardiff fell short about 5 years ago and have been doing since, if anything they're an example of why it's important to go up as soon as possible.

Of course people want the club to do well & as well as possible.

But what a shallow way to enjoy sport if you only live or die by the win/promotion.

If you don't enjoy the journey/roller coaster all the way then I can't see you ever being happy.

This doesn't mean you should just be a happy clapper, come what may... but if you only want to see a win/promotion else everything needs tearing down & starting again why not support ManU, Barca or whoever.

What a lot of bollox.

Why shouldn't Leicester fans have a right to expect Premier League football and be upset if we don't get it?

I love the Championship personally, but if you aren't in football to progress, be successful and to want to pit yourself against the best, then what's the point?

That's fair enough.

But Christ, there is a limit. It's no longer a rollercoaster when it's 10 years. it's more like being stuck in the cue for hours and then the park closing when you get to the front. Then going back the next day and the exact same thing happening. For 10 years.
