Tesco Broadband

Anyone got it?

Is it ok?

Looks the best value for money deal, but I'm sceptical of getting Tesco to do my broadband.

Virgin is out - they can't do my flat

BT is out - they won't do a 12 month contract (how stupid is that, they say they get a lot of students complaining and going somewhere else).

SKY is a possibility, but can't get SKY TV in my flat as the trees are too big outside :dunno:

So I'm left with

TalkTalk - which everyone says is shit

PlusNet - which looks a bit tinpot

O2 and EE - Which I'm not sure about and are a lot more expensive than Tesco or Sky unless I have an EE or O2 mobile

Or Tesco which is the cheapest.

Tesco mobile use 02 for their coverage so probably use them for their broadband, not sure that helps.

I'm pretty sure Sky broadband comes through your BT telephone line. I used to have Sky Broadband & I don't have a dish. It was a reasonable service, but because I live a fair distance from the telephone exchange.........the download speed was shit. I swapped to TalkTalk & it's pretty much the same service, same speed, but a bit cheaper.

When I do a speed test & check other download speeds in the area, BT are by far the fastest - but they are by far the most expensive too.

I've got Talktalk and I've never had a problem with them, you can get a free Youview box as well. It'd probably be an 18 month contract though.

TalkTalk is absolutely fvcking shite. I struggle to get 1mb download speed at best, and their customer service is absolutely shambolic.

If you want to wait a millennium to download a large file, console update or movie then I suggest picking TalkTalk.

Surely that all depends on how near to the exchange you are? It all comes down BT's wires so it'll be the same whoever you have unless you can get on fibre optic cable.

I get between 3.5 to 7mbps.

Plusnet are far from tinpot. I moved to them from O2 and got reliable 5 Mbps speeds, unlimited overnight bandwidth is excellent for torrenting/streaming and their support is much better than other ISPs.

You can get Sky Broadband without being a Sky TV customer now. They use BT's network. There is Virgin Media's National offer. PlusNet are owned by BT but operate as a separate company. TalkTalk consistently have the highest complaint rates as reported by Offcom. Tesco uses Cable & Wireless I believe.

If Tesco are doing it , then it will probably be good .

Those fookers ought to be running the country, not the idiots we've got .

We used to have Sky, and the Internet speed was atrocious. It was terrible, like less than 1mb! Now we have BT and it's really fast, SpeedTest is showing 46 mbps download and 9 mbps upload!

Sorry Shrappers, you can't get Tesco Broadband in Pamplona OR Valencia.

Unfortunately I now live in London where it is snowing in March, instead of Valencia where I would be on the beach still recovering from las fallas.

That's a better offer than I got.

Once these companies have you on a contract they don't give a shit anymore.

Is that because BT have since upgraded your area to fibre?

Erm I don't know. I did a quick Google search and put my post code into the first link and it says "Fibre optic broadband is available in [My Postcode]" and "Your home is approximately 1.1 miles from your local exchange." - I guess that's good? :dunno:

Better than Sky, anyway
