cc_star Posted 10 November 2014 Posted 10 November 2014 Are our fans an INCREDIBLY fickle bunch via a vis other fans? Or do we just compare with the norm? I always have this idea (prob fantasy) that Livepool fans are really patient, whereas West Ham's are always fackin moaning? Etc.. We seem more fickle than most, whether we're the most fickle I don't know. FWIW there's always been a subset of people with nothing but pure hatred for Nige, even record after record falling last season praise was either only begrudgingly given or they just stayed away... No doubt waiting for a poor run such as this

No doubt waiting for a poor run such as this I have a theory on this... It's actually cos he takes no shit. It's his way or no way. There have been quite a few remarks when he's really seemed to be saying to the fans 'shut up bloody moaning'.Some people will take to that, but many won't. People generally like to be able to moan and for the target of their angst, basically to then apologise. Nige won't do this. And I think it makes some people feel he is arrogant. Basically, many, I would say, find it far more difficult to warm to Pearson than to someone like MON. I don't think he helps himself, in this respect, by sitting up in the clouds. People still like to see passion. I know I used to love to see MON jump up and punch the air when we scored. Running down the touch line and all that. I doubt people will give Pearson much time if this run continues, essentially because I don't think he is actually that popular..even now.

sylofox Posted 10 November 2014 Posted 10 November 2014 We have always had more than our share of moaners. We have also always had a number of moaners that moan even when we are doing well. The glass half empty type. Even last season they were out. It won't last, wait till we play so and so, and we will come straight back down. None of this is new just more places than the pub to spout there shite now.

We're on a poor run and 75% still want him according to the last stay/go match poll. Even after the Barnsley game in 2012/13 it was still about a 50/50 split. I think it's safe to say Nigel Pearson is pretty popular.

Whether you respect a manager or not also has got to do with how you perceive him and whether you like him on a personal level and feel some kind of empathy for his personality and the work he's doing. I've never had the chance of witnessing Leicester under O'Neill (I came into play when Adams was still at the helm). I'd say, from a personal point of view and I'm probably exaggerating, that many of the fans who were there in the late 90ies and early Noughties have a blinkered view of MON and idealize him no end. Whether that's justified or not is debatable. The thing here is that the one (media) side you as a fan see of a manager doesn't necessarily have to be representative of that on a professional level. People also mistake passion for competence. As much as I'd love to see Pearson to show more emotions, he's just not that. I like his dry and no-shit approach and many have commented on his funnier and more open side away from the cameras. I can't understand this notion that some fans need to antagonize Pearson no matter what, as if he's some sort of demon, hampering the development of this club. Which is pretty much all but rubbish.

O'Neill himself wasn't a huge admirer of the supporters, especially after the Sheffield United game. I can remember several programme notes where he mentioned supporter complaints and questioned what their expectations were. If he isn't all that popular it wouldn't surprise me. Fans want a character in charge, look at Holloway. Nice bloke, made us laugh, wasn't his fault we went down. Martin Allen had passion, made us laugh. Sven always treated the fans with respect. O'Neill was loved because he won cups and established the club in the top 10 in the country, not for his supporter relations. Frankly, I'm not bothered if Pearson doesn't like the fans or jump up and down, I want him to play good football and try to win matches. It hasn't been the case recently but he has done it before. Believe me, you'd soon be moaning if he took other managerial traits such as blaming referees, or not even talking to the press.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2014 Posted 10 November 2014 I think I like Pearson..the bloke..or what I perceive him to be like. I think he talks mainly sense, and clearly does have a dry sense of humour. There are two things about him I never got. I remember a post-match interview with Stringer (I can't recollect the game) where Pearson actually went very mardy. There was a big debate about it at the time (whether Stringer had provoked him etc) but I remember thinking straight after that interview that Pearson had come out of it sounding like a spoilt kid. Just that one occasion I heard him like that. Secondly, his insistence on playing that dreadful 4-3-3 with Kane out on the wing and Wood up top..one of Leicester's longest unwinning runs ever I think? That, I could not for the life of me understand? All in all, he's been pretty great for City. I said at the start of the season I'll take it one game at a time (that doesn't mean I'll still question, because I will) but I certainly don't want to see our most successful manager for years given the boot. I hope he turns out form around and quick. If not, from what I hear, I actually don't think he's overly-popular amongst our fans and they WILL turn soon. Let's all hope we get some wins.
Dan Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Ours are as fickle as they come and I think we're all guilty to some extent, some a lot more than others. I've actually lost faith in Pearson more during this run than I have during the last bad one as. I'm still well on his side and I don't think six games (albeit six awful ones) is reason to bin off all that he's built up here, though I'm definitely seeing the more rational arguments against him this time around. He's got capabilities of being superb but doesn't half wreck them sometimes. Saying that there are some who genuinely revel in this. I am convinced. Embarrassing how much dislike some can have for someone who's done this much for us. Quite frankly they'll never warm to him no matter what he does.

His cold demeanour can easily go against him. I actually don't mind it as I think he sees it as a bit of a get out when it comes to the media (who I share a similar stance with him about) but I can see why it would get some peoples backs up. Suppose interpretations mean a hell of a lot in this game and he's got such a manner that can come across as the total professional when we're doing well and a complete arsehole when we aren't. I don't think it helps with the way Stringer acts at times. He's like someone from the Sun.
