Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 http://sport.uk.msn....cid=binganswers http://www.telegraph...e-Carlisle.html http://www.independe...me-8594878.html Hunter is a black American comedian who was born in Georgia but is a long-term resident of Britain and a regular on Have I Got News for You. He began his act by explaining that he used the word "n*****", or "n****", under its alternative spelling, liberally in his set. He said that he used it to refer to all races and all people. He said that he knew very little about football. He went on to use "n*****" to refer to Luis Suarez in a joke soon after and there was a sharp intake of breath from the people around me. Carlisle has campaigned to eradicate racism in football, and although he refused to criticise Hunter's act, he admits it was a big error to hire the American for the event. "I thought we made a huge mistake," said the Northampton defender, who took over as PFA chairman in 2010. "I thought with everything that we have gone through over the last few years, using a comedian of his type was a bad error in judgement. "I was embarrassed sat up there throughout and I want to apologise unreservedly to the footballing community that was present." Carlisle was also annoyed that Hunter's performance detracted from an evening that was meant to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the organisation, and its decision to honour women footballers for the first time. "What galls me is that it was a momentous occasion," he said. "It was our 40th award, Kim Little won the first women's award, a place in history. I don't get what they're so offended by. Mr Carlisle is supposed to be intelligent - doesn't he understand what Reg Hunter is doing in using the N word as he does? In that he refers to everyone as N****, he's destroying the word as an insult, as a devisive word - it makes it mean the same as "human". It's typical of white people getting offended on behalf of black people... though I'm sure Garth Crooks will weigh in somewhere. If only they had asked Gil first. Remember: "White people can sing it too, just change that N to a W!" Or is everyone else outraged? PS. I realise that Clark Carlisle is mixed race. EDIT: I really hope they can get Reg on HIGNFY this week.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 "When you go to a comedy store you know you might have to leave your moral compass at the door... I am having a go at us as a union for putting that kind of material on show" This is my favourite bit. I used to think Clark Carlisle was alright as well. Where is the world heading if people are too delicate to handle a black man saying 'nigger'? I despair. edit - don't know why this is so small?!
AdamN Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 I've only really seen him on panel shows, not his stand up, but I can only assume he went up there and did what he always does. Surely they should have known what his act was like before hiring him?

There's no difference in a black person saying it than a white person saying it IMO
Guest BlueBrett Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 There's no difference in a black person saying it than a white person saying it IMO And in both cases it is what?
MooseBreath Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 Neither offensive nor funny. Just boring, really. You'd think we'd be past all this crap by now.
Webbo Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 You don't have to lack a sense of humour to find Reginald D Hunter unfunny.
Charl91 Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 In Reginald D. Hunters name, the D. stands for Delicious.
SystonFox Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 Nobody gets really offended when 50 cent says the word or Jay Z and kanye and they ruddy titled a song NIGHHAZ (sp for obvs reasons) in Paris. Two faced fools
Harry - LCFC Posted 29 April 2013 Posted 29 April 2013 I don't get what they're so offended by. It's typical of white people getting offended on behalf of black people... though I'm sure Garth Crooks will weigh in somewhere. Summed it up brilliantly there. I do think it is often the case that white people (especially those in positions of authority) feel the need to step in and condemn potentially controversial remarks for fear of any backlash that might come their way. Annoying really, we do seem to have a bit of a racism culture now - not that people are actually racist but that people choose to see it in places where it simply isn't there. Of course, racism is a problem and it needs to be eradicated but I don't think it helps to clamp down on any casual comment about race. As you say, devaluing such remarks by using them casually can be an effective way of making such words seem meaningless.
z-layrex Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 People just like to be offended, I couldnt care less anymore.
Blue Maniac Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 Bloody foreigners, coming over here, offending our over-sensitive idiots. Send them all back etc.

It was small because you're a white man. or maybe you touched the wrong button above (subscript or superscript)
Guest BlueBrett Posted 30 April 2013 Posted 30 April 2013 It was small because you're a white man. or maybe you touched the wrong button above (subscript or superscript) And yet now it's suddenly massive? Does that make me a grower not a shower?

Finnegan Posted 1 May 2013 Posted 1 May 2013 "Reginald D Hunter is chided for not telling any jokes about divorcing Dawn French." lol I ****ing love Reggy, such a ridiculous comedian. Carlisle done the footballing community no favours in their bid to appear ever more "real", "normal" and "intelligent" though I still don't doubt many are.
Tielemans63 Posted 1 May 2013 Posted 1 May 2013 Classic example of a total non-story magnified into something purporting to be deeply controversial - who cares?
