ealingfox Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2332371/Tottenhams-Kyle-Naughton-Norwichs-Sebastien-Bassong-pictured-holding-guns.html Kyle Naughton and Sebastien Bassong have brought shame on their clubs by posting pictures on the internet of themselves posing with guns. Tottenham on Tuesday night refused to comment on their 24-year-old defender Naughton posing with a high-powered automatic weapon, wearing ear protectors and with a chain of bullets draped over his right shoulder. Norwich City took much stronger action against Bassong and fined him for uploading a series of pictures holding a pistol and pretending to fire it in his garden. Naughton was on a shooting range in Las Vegas while on holiday. Controversial: Tottenham full-back Kyle Naughton is a regular in the Premier League The two players, role models to thousands of youngsters across the country, had posted their inappropriate pictures on the Instagram website. Bassong captioned the pictures on his account as a ‘garden shooting session’ and claimed he was practising for the security of his daughter, Elyah. Norwich said the gun was not real but a replica and that the 26-year-old had apologised and removed the images after being spoken to by club officials. The player had originally posted them before Norwich’s recent 2-1 home defeat by Aston Villa.Manager Chris Hughton saw fit to dock his wages for the gross error of judgment. Bassong has been used by the club to promote their new kit, appearing in a promotional video with local children. Misguided: Former Spurs defender Sebastien Bassong now plays for Norwich Taking aim: Bassong is one of Norwich's key players A Norwich spokesman said: ‘Several weeks ago the club was made aware of the picture posted on the social media site Instagram and we immediately discussed the matter with Sebastien. ‘He apologised sincerely for any offence caused by the picture and immediately deleted it, and confirmed the object he is pictured holding was not real. The matter has been dealt with internally by the club.’ Queens Park Rangers striker Jay Bothroyd caused controversy last month when he posted a picture on Instagram of a new tattoo on his torso depicting the word ‘love’ but spelt out with a handgun, grenade, flick knife and a machine gun. He was slammed by some fans but defended his actions, saying: ‘The meaning is you have to fight for love. It reads ‘‘love’’ if some people can’t see. More than anything it’s artistic.’ Poor example to set? Jay Bothroyd was last season another Premier League player Bothroyd, 30, later deleted the picture from his Instagram account but Danny Bryan, founder of the London-based Communities Against Gun and Knife Crime, told MailOnline that footballers should be better educated about the impact that such actions could have on youngsters. ‘These footballers should have a bit more about them and maybe his (Bothroyd’s) agent should guide him better,’ said Bryan. Former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger was the first footballer to spark outrage for being pictured with a firearm. Two years ago a photograph taken by his girlfriend emerged online. The ex-gang member, who served time for a mugging, was questioned by Newcastle officials. They confirmed it was a replica and not an offence to own it, but revealed that the player regretted posing with the chrome gun. Ranger, now 22, is a free agent after being released by Newcastle this year. Babylon Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 I'm sorry, but Naughton is in a licensed gun club and has done nothing wrong at all. I've been clay pigeon shooting and have a photo on face book with a rifle, means about the same as what he's just done. As soon as I saw him post this I just knew the papers would leap on it.
Xen Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 Not sure I see the problem with Naughton.. he was on holiday and went to a shooting range. Something lots of people do as it's a safe, legal place to shoot. Heck, I'd say he's MORE responsible for specifically going there... The others are all tools, though. Edit: Beaten to it.. haha
Finnegan Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 I saw this on the Beeb and thought the same about Naughton. He even has the necessary PPE! You can't be a real G with goggles and ear muffs on! If love a go firing one of those and I'm hardly some gangster!
ealingfox Posted 29 May 2013 Author Posted 29 May 2013 I sympathise with the holiday aspect of it, you should be able to do what you want really, at least if its legal, controlled and done with care. Probably didn't need to post pictures though... Bothroyd and Ranger are just twats.
whitlock Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 That's all fine except for Nile Ranger, he is a class A CNUT. If anyone who has leaped onto this story would think that they wouldn't pose with a real gun whilst out on holiday are mental. Probably because they don't have a licenced gun range where they go on holiday in Lanzagrotty. I'm so envious of footballers with the wealth and fame that they get and the lifestyle that they lead, but they can't even fart without someone moaning about it not setting a good example. BORE THE FCUK OFF
ealingfox Posted 29 May 2013 Author Posted 29 May 2013 Also how has Nile Ranger only just been released by Newcastle? It became apparent that he is absolutely terrible years ago....
Guest MattP Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 No problem with Naughton. There is a picture of me on fb in pretty much example the same pose from the same shooting range. Bassong is just a idiot.
Jaspa Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 Read this lastnight and hes done F all wrong. All legal, no-one in danger and hes even got safety goggles and muffs. The only possible wrong I could make up was 'Think of the children, youre a role model', but thats stupid in the grand scheme of things. Ranger was wrong cause its an illegal fire-arm No-one said owt when Tom Kennedy put a pic up on Twitter with him holding an MP5 at a range

Edit: But I agree with all your points.

AdamN Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 Interesting point in one of the comments: I think about 80k people follow Kyle and as with me the majority of them I am sure never saw this photo. How many people read your paper and visit your website. Are you sure this is not more about selling papers and money than it is about genuine concern. And yes, Naughton has done fuck all wrong. If anything he's doing the correct thing by demonstrating the responsible way to use firearms, which, even in the UK, is a hobby enjoyed by many. I can only hope he isn't pressured into making an apology for something that he shouldn't have to apologise for.
Soar Fox Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 Nothing wrong with Naughton. Looks like the same shooting range I went to in Vegas and if it is they take and give you a photo when you've finished.

It is if it's one you mentioned to me. Did you shoot at a celeb picture as well? I kept bugging him to let me do Barack Obama but he wouldn't have it.

Captain... Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 Agree with everyone on here, nothing wrong with Naughton taking part in a legal activity, the rest are tits. Secondly they are not fvcking role models they are people who can kick a ball straight.
leicsmac Posted 29 May 2013 Posted 29 May 2013 Not in the South Such a weird but interesting place. I actually did something similar years ago when I was working in Virginia. Didn't get to put a few into a picture of Murdoch though.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Naughton doesn't need a gun he has a cannon for a right foot.
Guest shearfox Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 I don't see the problem with naughton at all, his on holiday in a licensed club what is the issue... The others are just stupid...
