Would you propose that we get expensive ones instead and spend beyond our FFP limits? We've no choice I'm afraid, cheap players are what we have to go for.

More tosh. Alternatively we could get some good players and fill the ground and get promoted then we wouldn't care about FFP. So much use of this to excuse poor signings. If we had the ability at the club to sign 15 or 16 quality players who we paid well it would be the same as having 30 bozos on low money. Trouble is we'd currently end up with 15 bozos imstead

We had about 15 to 16 "quality" players not so long ago. And then it all went down the drains...

You're running in circles.

So you're willing to risk the long term prospects of the club by banking everything on one season. Incredibly short termist and impatient. 16 new players? Yeah, because if you want to go up a whole four (yes, four) places you really do need a whole new squad. I'm sure you already considered injuries/suspensions on a 16 man squad so I won't mention that.

Of course there's absolutely no guarantee of promotion by spending excessively as I'm sure you realise. Should we fail, which is the most likely outcome, then we'd severely hamper our chances for future seasons. Would you be happy to accept that we probably wouldn't have much chance afterwards if your grand plan didn't come off?

Konchesky is a bag of crap and needs replacing, he's never been any good. Liverpool say he's the worst player they've ever signed, unfortunately we have signed ten's of terrible players so can't be describe the same at Leicester.

Posted

What ever 'talent' or 'ability' Konchesky has it must be tempered by the fact he is reputedly one of our biggest earners. Is his ability worth that money? I'd say no.

I think it's rapidly heading that way.

But...I think he's put in genuine effort and performances.  I don't really understand how a player can go from fan's favourite to being abused in such a short space of time.

We didn't used to be like this as fans.  We used to let a decent player age with grace...didn't we?

Posted

I was never a fan since we signed him for the fee that we did. The other people you have listed I've never ripped and I'm actually surprised people had a go at them, considering I'm quite new here. I wouldn't say any of my opinions are to rip Koncheskey as a player and personally I think "he has passed his sellbydate" was valid about 3 years ago. I think with the current FFP situation, it will be best for us to let him go. I'd say he's been pretty average if you put all of his performances into one. I didn't even realise he was receiving any abuse if I'm honest.

I don't recall him ever being a fans favourite. He's been a regular in the side but I'd hardly call him a favourite. I think it shows how far we've fallen when Konchesky is regarded as being a good or great left back.

I think it shows how far we've fallen when you look at all the money that was thrown around in past years for mediocre players or players that were only in for the payday - and now we're still seeing the negative side effects of that maneuver.

Nobody said Konchesky was "great" - the majority on here merely pointed out that he's getting too much abuse that he doesn't deserve.

But of course, you can twist it and turn it forevermore.

Do they? Or is it something your mate down the pub who watches Liverpool on the tv says?

I hate to break it to you but we're not a top 6 prem side with 5 European cups in the bank, we're in the championship (aiming for promotion) and he's a good LB at this level who has served/ is serving us well and deserves a bit more credit

But he isn't getting abuse and has been largely immune from the vitriol afforded to other players. If saying someone is merely ok or, heaven forbid, not quite as ok as they used to be qualifies as abuse, then heaven help us.

I don't like to slag players off and feel Konch has been on the whole good for us.

But I do have one exception He wont move to Leicester travels 4hrs a day to training and back.

Then as he is tired gets mondays off oh and an extension and a pay rise.

Oh and don't really look like he cares.

Need I say more.

If people on here think we're critical here's a Liverpool view (just google Paul Konchesky Liverpool)

"However, it had become apparent to Liverpool fans right away that Konchesky had no business being in the club's first team."

There's even this thread on football365 http://www.football365.com/f365-features/8716095/Who-Is-Your-Club-s-Paul-Konchesky-

Wait - now we're slagging off a player for what he did before he joined us - and then wait two to three years to make it all public?

Konchesky's now played two seasons with us and on the whole, has done a good job. He's been a solid defender and compared to some others, put in an extra shift a lot of times.

He's not the fastest, but doing the dirty laundry now is ridiculous.

Mike, all you do is trying to find anything, and I mean ANYTHING to moan.

Any player over a certain age will be given Mondays off, whether they live 10 minutes away or 2 hours away.

Seems polite compared to the people you get on here. Especially considering we you know, aren't Liverpool.

Calling him names on this forum (and no, I'm not talking about you in particular) and bad talking his efforts whilst playing for us is abuse.

Abuse that, on the whole, he does not deserve.

And like you say, he's been largely immune from the vitriol because he's been playing a solid game for two seasons now. If that's not good enough, than what is it?

Oh, and don't be so touchy.  :pearson:

I don't believe I am 'slagging' him off, I was merely 'supporting' another posters assertion (for which he was greeted with abuse) that he's not held in particularly high regard by Liverpool fans.

I am 'moaning' about the cynical assertion that Leicester fans have been disrespectful towards Konchesky. We haven't, this thread has been created for the sole reason of getting 'rep' points.

Besides, is "supporting" another poster with quotes from Liverpool fans critical of Konchesky not being disrespectful towards the man?

You support the notion that he's not good enough and that is indeed disrespectful.

You also tend to omit the fact that regardless of how bad Konchesky was for Liverpool (I can't tell, I can't judge him on that), he's somewhat blossomed at Leicester. At age 32 and being a left-back, no easy feat.

How is supporting the assertion that he wasn't good enough for Liverpool disrespectful?

I wouldn't say he's blossomed here, he's found a level at which he can still compete, blossoming would connote 'peaking' and considering the bulk of his career was played at Premiership level i'd doubt playing in the Championship qualifies as a career peak.

Is Nigel Pearson being disrespectful by signing a back up/potential replacement for Konchesky?

Ever heard of depth in squad?

I think you have.

Thinking someone isn't good enough is NOT disrespectful. This is a competitive sport we're talking about, grow up.
