LanguedocFox Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I didn't know whether to be amused or appalled by this story: http://http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2378344/Ade-Akinbiyi-signs-Colwyn-Bay-player-coach.html. The manager is Frank Sinclair - so another own goal, presumably, to go with all the others?
Guest MattP Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Amused definitely! Hopeless and thick as two short planks, what on earth are these people thinking?
Charnwood Norris Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 he'll always be remembered for his ripped physique
emmo1987 Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Ade Akinbiyi has joined ColwynBay as a player-coach. "The 38-year-old former Nigeria international will work with the Conference North club's strikers and play when required" haha. Hope its on finishing.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Granted the guy was a bit of a joke for us, mainly as he was totally out of his depth But for the rest of his career he was a half reasonable Championship striker for the likes of Stoke and Burnley. I see no reason why he can't do a half decent job down there.
Corky Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Weren't we also close to getting Eidur Gudjohnsen, but Taylor preferred Ade and kept upping the bid? Or was that a myth?

I see no reason why he can't do a half decent job down there. But he had no skills really he could teach, control, technique etc. He was a battering ram, they arent the sort who go into coaching. Weren't we also close to getting Eidur Gudjohnsen, but Taylor preferred Ade and kept upping the bid? Or was that a myth? Very true, when he was at Bolton.
Snowdon Fox Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Hi all, first time poster on here! I'm a qualified referee living in North Wales and will be on refereeing the Colwyn Bay v Chelsea (Reserves/Academy) game this weekend, I will give you some feedback next week on how Ade played and how many chances he missed! I will also be asking Frank about what happened when MON dropped him for the league cup final.
AyewJoking Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 I know its fashionable to mock Ade but a coach who has experience of top flight football plus international, they could do far worse.
Charnwood Norris Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Isn't he still our all time transfer record? 5.5 million or something?
Corky Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 I know its fashionable to mock Ade but a coach who has experience of top flight football plus international, they could do far worse. Playing at the top level doesn't make you a great coach. Bryan Robson was a fine player yet his CV has three relegations and Terry Venables taking over to help out.
OzFox Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Weren't we also close to getting Eidur Gudjohnsen, but Taylor preferred Ade and kept upping the bid? Or was that a myth? And Chelsea ended up paying over a million quid less for Gudjohnsen than we paid for Akinbiyi. Quite laughable really
stix Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 My phone won't let me open the link so I haven't read it, but I also heard that Pascal Chimbonda was on the verge of signing for Colwyn Bay as well.
foxfanazer Posted 26 July 2013 Posted 26 July 2013 Weren't we also close to getting Eidur Gudjohnsen, but Taylor preferred Ade and kept upping the bid? Or was that a myth? Necer knew that! That's actually made me feel a little bit sick
Jordan Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Akinbiyi might not be able to teach his strikers the more nuanced parts of the game, but it would be classic if he becomes a successful manager by showing a keen eye for undervalued talent on the transfer market.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 But he had no skills really he could teach, control, technique etc. He was a battering ram, they arent the sort who go into coaching. Very true, when he was at Bolton. He's coaching a Conference North Team not Oadby U12s!
Fox42 Posted 28 July 2013 Posted 28 July 2013 he'll always be remembered for his ripped physique Oh, THAT's Akinbiyi. That explains everything now...

Bryan Robson was a fine player yet his CV has three relegations and Terry Venables taking over to help out. Did i say that? Akinbiyi's CV is certainly more appealing than most other candidates youre going to get at that level. I'm certainly not claiming he would turn out to be a great coach anyway. COLWYN FÚCKING BAY
