milnerfc Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I thought first half decent performances were: Morgan De Laet James Drinkwater We CANNOT play 3-5-2 with SSL and Whitbread making up 2 of the 3. Too many gaps, poor distribution and a lack of pace. It suits De Laet, but not Konchesky. Second half was dreadful. Waghorn will NEVER be good enough. It really depresses me that 3 years on, we still have a player so poor at the club. It shows we've really not moved on much. I thought Marshall had a good half, that's about it. Danns showed us why NP doesn't rate him. There's no chance he will be a starter this season. Let's hope we get an offer for him. Pointless pre season friendly really- players involved who won't be this season- Gally, Danns, for example. Can't have done the players confidence much good either. Only thing it helped is fitness. Encouraging thing is we have some real quality- James, Morgan, Knockaert, Marshall (I think). I don't think NP knows his best 11. We need a centre half as well. Desperately. Give an example of what waghorn did in the game that showed he was any worse than anyone else in our squad?
I blame Wellens Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Give an example of what waghorn did in the game that showed he was any worse than anyone else in our squad?Give me an example of anything waghorn has done for 2 years!
Happy Fox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Ermmmm......might it be the midfield do you think ? You know it's not anywhere good enough .....I know it's not good enough ......Uncle Tom Cobley (& his mates ) know it's not good enough .......so why doesn't our manager & his now Director Of Football......not to mention the owners, who watch the same games as us know it's just not good enough ????? FFS !!! Sort it asap I say or it's goodnight nurse !!! Amen. To play 3-5-2 you need 3 effective CBs and we only have 1 in Morgan imo, until we bring in a CB or two and a central midfielder I think it is best to scrap 3-5-2 and play 4-4-2.
GingerrrFox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 We CANNOT play 3-5-2 with SSL and Whitbread making up 2 of the 3. Too many gaps, poor distribution and a lack of pace. It suits De Laet, but not Konchesky. I agree with this to an extent I think SSL could play there but Konchesky should play as part of the 3. Nigel was comfortable with him playing CB at times last season so playing a wide CB role would suit him. Then it would free either Baka/Schlupp to fill the LWB with the pace they have.
marbelladave Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Only watched the game on TV but I thought that, as a team, we were wretched throughout. Nothing to do with monaco being better than us, just a lack of the fundamentals on our part, no organisation at the back, no pace whatsoever, first half, poor distribution from the back, Schmeichel in particular, no real support for our front players, nothing from set pieces. Pretty much exactly what we saw in the second half of last season. That said, a handful of our players looked, as individuals, that the could actually play to a decent standard, considerable promise from Moore, De Laet, James, King, Schlupp and very occasionally from Morgan, Marshall and Wood. Konchesky, Danns, Dyer, Knockaert and St Ledger were all awful.
milnerfc Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Give me an example of anything waghorn had done for 2 years! I believe this thread is for the Monaco game? Like I said earlier not a massive waggy fan, all I'm saying is he didn't put a foot wrong today doesn't deserve the abuse (based on the game today) he didn't get any service and as I said he was strong, kept possession, had a half decent effort on goal and got s*^t all service or support from our 5 man midfield
5waller5 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Would love a striker we could believe in. Just for a few games. If we had that all the other failings would be forgotten and I would be well up for it. Come on Nigel! I would even start believing in you again. For me we do..... He wasn't playing today, but the nuuuuge would have looked the class act he is against class opposition.
Kitchandro Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Unbelievable movement off the ball. Now I see why he scores so many goals. I'm not sure how unbelievable you have to be to get away from our defenders. He didn't exactly tear us apart, did he? I thought most of their good play was from the deep lying midfielders and generally under not much pressure.
I blame Wellens Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I repeat!!! Forget all this talk of tinkering the formation and getting another CB or midfielder. Just someone with pace who can put the ball in the back of the net. The simplest and only solution that is realistic... ... Yes ok I suppose getting a decent striker might be a bit more difficult with the new financial restrictions. B@llocks I don't know :-(
5waller5 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 They all worry me if nobody is going to support them. We might as well not play with forwards and have two extra men in midfield. That may be what we need to finally be dominant in midfield!!!!
Father Ted Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 He was wrong side of his man from one of the free kicks. One fault? In which he still recovered and got tight enough to Falcao to put him off.
I blame Wellens Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 For me we do..... He wasn't playing today, but the nuuuuge would have looked the class act he is against class opposition.Love nuge and always will. But became a bit of a scapegoat last season for the rest of the team not performing. Pearson the clueless putting him out wide. Do think we need another decent striker with pace!
XLM Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Trying to make too much of the pre-season fixtures is fruitless I think. We've played against garbage teams, and then a side that in no way, shape or form resembles the type of opposition we'll come up against in the league. We didn't play well, but we didn't even really have the ball to show what we could do, and anybody on this forum who believes that we'll get completely bossed like that this season really needs to wake up a bit. It seems like the 3-5-2 system needs work, and it's difficult to say what our best 11 really is, but I think a lot of question will be answered this time next week.
Dickov22 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Give an example of what waghorn did in the game that showed he was any worse than anyone else in our squad? The half chance he had when he pathetically tried a shot with the outside of his boot. His all round play. Not good enough. He's not the only one who isn't, but he's had enough bloody chances.

A lot of questions will be answered this time next week. I love your optimism. I doubt Nigel will be able to find the answers this time 10 years from now. But I bet you he brings Marshall on for Knocky at exactly 60 mins into the Boro game.

He's not the only one who isn't, but he's had enough bloody chances. And how often did he get the ball? He had no service whatsoever, working on his own for 30 minutes. Waghorn was not an embarrassment, just rather unfortunate.

I blame Wellens Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Move on from Waghorn. Who cares how he played today. One thing is for sure he is not the answer.
Shoe Seller Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 If NP starts with the XI he started with today, he wants shooting. Preferably by someone who can shoot. Might have to get someone specially contracted in.
Lionheart Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Went to the game today, not sure what I was expecting to see, realise it was only a friendly to get match practice and give everyone a run out but I didn't see anything that would suggest it will be any different to last season. So we should be there and there a bouts play off but no chance of automatic, having people like Gallagher,Vardy,Waghorn & Danns in could mean even lower. Having said that we'll be there again right behind them,Come on you Blues.

He's not the only one who isn't, but he's had enough bloody chances. He may have done, but today he was no worse than any other player and he actually held up the ball well and kept possession, your dislike for him is clear, but I believe after today's performance he doesn't deserve some of the stick he has recieved In this thread.
Shoe Seller Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 They are all a joke. I'm not judging from today but every player has gone backward under NP. Any player with any spark or creativity is bullied in to submission and acceptable of just running a lot. Cheers Nige.
I blame Wellens Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Yes I know I moan a lot but can't wait for next week. Totally don't believe in Pearson. But totally believe in the Royal blue (with a little bit of gold). All together: This is the season for leicester This is the big one for us We're playing great In front of every gate And we're not gonna stop Till we get right to the top where we belong We've got the best crowd in England They're gonna back us all the way (hay) This is the season for leicester city It's leicester, leicester all the waaaayyyyyyyy!
Shoe Seller Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I hope for a win as I'm a Leicester City fan and want what is best for Leicester City. Part of me also wants an embarrassing 12 nil defeat for the above reason as it will speed Pearson's departure.
