sdb Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I know people will say 'it's just a friendly', but we did not look anywhere near ready there. Lack of appetite and clearly no idea of who or what system we're gonna play.
mrmagoomc4 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 one question does pearson know his best 11 ????? as marshall , nocky, dyer should of started !!!!!
RowlattsFox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 James, kasper and de laet only positives. He wasn't alone but danns was clearly not bothered about impressing, awful. Oh well not going to get worked up at this stage. Hopefully we'll sneak a couple of loan players in once all the prem squads are back from their tours.
harpendenfox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 not sure if there is much point playing a team so much better than us, as it merely serves to illustrate our mediocrity!
morris1234 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Just proves that Pearson isn't stubborn. He's just sensible. It's all well and good suggesting different formations throughout last season but it takes time to integrate and there are so many things to consider. This afternoon proved we weren't sure who should be picking up who. Some decent individual performances though, de laet, James, Morgan, king all looked good. We have pace to burn also!
Fox92 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Glad I didn't go. Boring. We looked slightly better playing 4-4-2, I cannot see peoples love in for 3-5-2 at all. Still don't rate Whitbread, he only knows one way which is stupid long balls. At one point Wood got frustrated with him and asked for the ball on the floor. Did Dyer even touch it? Meh. Kasper was a positive, as was James who is clearly our best midfielder.
Monsell1976 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 It is what it is, a friendly and coming away without injuries, but not feeling any better about the season ahead, with that said we won't be playing teams as good as that every week.
Father Ted Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 one question does pearson know his best 11 ????? as marshall , nocky, dyer should of started !!!!! This is what worries me most. Pearson looks like he may want to play 3-5-2 but giving Schlupp no practice at LWB and instead persisting with that carthorse Konchesky worried me. Starting Drinkwater too when you'd think that Marshall or Knockaert would be more beneficial in the middle 3 alongside James and King was worrying too.
Happy Fox Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 We really look toothless upfront make no mistake about that, hope Nugent gets some game time with Wood this coming Tuesday.
Guest Col city fan Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Toulalan (Defensive midfielder) pretty much ran the game. Just sitting off the back four, mopping up, quickly getting it upfield. Lovely player. And helped their defence to limiting us to just about fook all.
Stadt Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 The fact that Falcao alone costs more than our squad and stadium combined speaks volumes, With so many substitutions the game was a bit awkward consequently our defence didn't play effectively. But the worst aspect of the game was how our strikers played and the performance of Neil Danns, how any body can call for him to be involved in the match day squad is beyond me
escape2victory Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 would like to stick with the 3-5-2. have Bakayogo down the left. pretty much all attacks 1st half came down the right, nothing from the left. konchesky isnt a wing back. Marshall instead of Knockaert in the central attacking mid role, King / James sitting. Waghorn over Vardy upfront if Nugent unfit.
sdb Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 one question does pearson know his best 11 ????? as marshall , nocky, dyer should of started !!!!! knocky and marshall were very poor today
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 In all honesty you'd expect us to get fairly well beaten against Monaco. People saying we don't look very good in certain areas - well yeah - they're going to be able to nullify us because they're a lot better. I didn't watch the game but I'm hardly surprised or disappointed to hear we were made to look a tad mediocre.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I bet the players' breath really stinks after running around in the heat for that long. Halitosis FC
MPH Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 The positives for me of the 3-5-2 was that, in the first half, the defence and midfield seemed to link up quite well... The negatives for me were that for the entire game the midfield gave crap service to the attack who seemed to not have a clue how to bring others into the game on the rare occasions that they DID have the ball. I don't know wether Pearson has been forced into this formation by his inability to do anything in the transfer department - we clearly have an abundance of midfielders and his inability to bring in another (good) striker might be forcing his hand...
berniethebolt Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Monaco are clearly targeting champions league as a minimum, and with a 53million pound striker id expect him to boss our back four. we stood up well to them, clearly outplayed but not so much that we failed to create chances. I actually think that was a good workout and learned some good lessons in defending.
Fox92 Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 Thought Moore was ok, also. Would be ahead of Whitbread for me.
cuddly ken Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 What's with the usual post match crap comments? It was a pre season game, get over it! Drink some beer, kiss a woman, eat her Kebab, have a laugh its Summertime!

Our defense wasn't the problem last season - it was very tight... felt we could of learnt more trying to unpick a stubborn Peterborough or Sheff utd
Kitchandro Posted 27 July 2013 Posted 27 July 2013 I bet the players' breath really stinks after running around in the heat for that long. Halitosis FC Where haave you been? We're really going to need you this season if today is anything to go by. The players didn't gain anything from today, aside from maybe better fitness, though they didn't work especially hard. I haven't really learnt anything about our players either. Vardy still has a shit first touch, Knocky should still be playing in the centre, Wood still shows a lack of hunger and confidence, Marshall is still useless, Schlupp is still nervous when he needs to pass it, De Laet is still good going forward but can't cross, Morgan is still head and shoulders our best centre back, James is still our best player, Danns is still average, wasteful Neil Danns, King still goes missing, Gallagher is never in a million years a right back and should leave, and I'm still not sure if 3-5-2 is the way to go. I can't imagine the club have made a profit from the ticket sales either.

We've got weaknesses all over the pitch I'm afraid. I agree with you though, playing Monaco was pointless, a good league 1 side or even a crap Premiership side would have made sense.

Anyway, the bits I've highlighted are spot on. Agree with it all. As I said at the top of the page, I can't see the love in for 3-5-2, we gave the ball away too much like Pearson said we did the other week. We look more comfortable in 4-4-2. Oh yeah, James has the quality you can see he is the best midfielder, and Morgan too, seems to read the game well.
