whoareyaaa Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 h Not just looking at this friendly, but it will be a struggle this season. We lost most our games in second half of the season (relegation form) and have signed one player who will most likely be a 'squad' player. It will be tough, I hope people realise this and don't have too high expectations. The same team has already proven they can finish in the top six, so they know what there capable of, there is no reason they can't do it again and im sure they will have improved over a season.
suffolk fox Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Bolton have lost all of their pre season friendlies, Middlesborough whom we play on Saturday beat Bordeaux the French cup winners 2 - 1 on Saturday. Friendlies do mean nothing though. Saturday, is when the season starts.
Harry - LCFC Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Simply put, that game tonight was worth zero points. And it's worth noting that many, many teams have 'poor' pre-seasons and then go on to perform well in the league. Criticise the team for when it matters. If we get a win and a draw in our first two games then I absolutely guarantee everyone will have forgotten all about tonight's game.
5waller5 Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Did we have a hangover last year when we lost to Shrewsbury and drew against York? It's be lovely to steamroller everyone, but it would mean nothing. Just as losing games preseason means nothing, rarely do preseasons show exactly what's to come. Games like this happen every year for almost every team. Lets just worry about Boro. Oh I do!!
suffolk fox Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Here here, anyone daft enough to pay £15 to watch a friendly against Northampton should expect to be taken for a turnip. Cardiff lost 3-2 at Brentford tonight, Barcelona drew with some random Polish side, Mansfield lost to Coventry yesterday, they all won't be pressing panic buttons, serious stuff starts Saturday and most of this lot won't even be near the starting line up. I agree with you regarding friendly results. However. Bar three players most of the lot who played tonight will be in our first team cos we have sod all else?
5waller5 Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 You know what ...... I scored an amazing goal in pre-season, and went on to score several in the folliowng couple of friendlies, going way back when and that following season was my best season ..... due to the confidence I came out of pre season with ..... Just saying!!

I'd love to see some data which linked pre-season performance to season performance because I bet the correlation is far closer than a lot of people will give it credit for
kingfox Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 SSL was actually decent all game. How many more times do I have to say it. He is always decent, our boring idiotic fans just don't see the quality he brings to the side. You can't be shit, if you won the ball off Iniesta & David Silva in a matter of minutes. #StLedgerForCaptain
5waller5 Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Nigel sounded relaxed and on decent form. He even answered some questions with real information ..... Please Nige keep it up ..... Show some humility, communicate with your fans .... we'll all enjoy it soooooo much more!!!
Guest MattP Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Do some people really think out players give a shit about friendlies?, for god sakes half of them dont give a shit about league games!
Babylon Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Add that to my list... See above... It's not an excuse to say it doesn't matter, when it actually doesn't matter. Look at last seasons games that I mentioned, did that mean we went the season without winning and were shit? No, we actually started the season off playing some good football. So once again pre season showed absolutely nothing about what was to come. It's happens year in year out, so much so it amazes me that it actually gets any attention whatsoever. Doesn't matter whether its Pearson, Sven or Saint Martin O'Neill I'd be saying the same.
ballso Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 it's all about being ready for boro on saturday, tonight wasn't important. so what excuses will be given on saturday if we lose then?

I can accept people lightly airing a few concerns but it's being hugely exaggerated IMO. it's all about being ready for boro on saturday, tonight wasn't important. so what excuses will be given on saturday if we lose then? Unless we're genuinley unfortunate then there will be no excuses from me. It'll matter then so I'll be bothered and prepared to criticise, it didn't tonight so I wasn't and I won't.
suffolk fox Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Didn't watch the match but heard he did make 1 mistake
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 The 3-5-2 just looks all wrong to me. We should be keeping it basic at the back and using our pace in wide areas because we haven't got the players to keep possession in the middle of defence and midfield. Instead we're doing the opposite, trying to learn a new system at the back and packing areas of the pitch where we're short of options - centre-backs and decent central midfielders. Not good tonight but it's pointless getting worked up over pre-season results.

It's a long season, but there is little cause for optimism right now.
Babylon Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 I presume the current excuses will be along the lines of: 'Its a friendly, so it doesn't matter' 'At least it's a good run out for the lads' 'It's the kick up the arse the players need' 'At least so and so (add name) had a good game Christ the excuses are manifold and have been for many many years. Personally, I say again, winning generally breeds winning. The pre season sounds pretty much dog turd, in terms of performances. Hold on, one more.. 'They are saving themselves for the real thing'.... Weren't you preaching earlier that other people's opinions should be respected? Glass houses and all that.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Positives - de Laet, Whitbread and, I thought, Schlupp as well. Erm, that's possibly about it.

If he did not it must have been an imposter and not the real Nigel?

BNET Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 lf it doesn't matter, then what is the point in playing ? of cause it matters, even that stupid idiot who picks the team sounded a bit pi ssed off with the out come. He also said it was bad luck conceding an own goal on 90 minute to lose the game, NO IT WASN'T NIGEL !!

Wasn't that the first we saw of the crisp passing that made us smile??
5waller5 Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Did he say Pleasure when the interview ended though? If he did not it must have been an imposter and not the real Nigel? He did ..... but he said it slightly differently .... almost with a flourish!!!!! I liked it a lot!!!!
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Forum legend Liam said on twitter, Drinkwater was poor. He needs to make a comeback on this forum, what a legend. Errr he was a dam sight better than those on before him
whitlock Posted 30 July 2013 Posted 30 July 2013 Just so it doesn't get forgotten, Kasper made 3 worldie saves! I thought James gave the ball away a bit. RDL looked dangerous. Yolo can't cross for shit. Vardy isn't a footballer. SSL was compose up till the OG. Whitbread was solid. Standard Kasper.
