Legend_in_blue Posted 1 February 2014 Posted 1 February 2014 As the graph shows, assuming a distance of roughly two metres away from the screen, which I would think is a common viewing distance for most, anything 32" or less and you won't notice the difference between 720p and 1080p. I can't imagine too many people viewing a supposed "next gen" machine on anything less than this though - particularly as screens at 40"+ are not as expensive as they used to be - pretty much cheaper than the console itself. More surprising is the jump to 4k. Unless you're looking at 60"+ from a maximum of 2m away there is no point.

I've read that there isn't much difference in the picture at all and not many companies would be able to broadcast that high not for a few years anyway? Sky can only do 1080p at the minute
Legend_in_blue Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Outlast will soon be making its way from PC to PS4 (for free in the case of PS Plus subscribers) and Red Barrels' Philippe Morin has explained that the PS4's power made that process a simple one. Asked about the power of the PS4 and its 8GB GDDR5 RAM by Gamingbolt, Morin replied, "it allowed us to crank everything to the maximum, without having to consider lower specs." That games originally developed for PC aren't having to be downgraded from a graphical perspective is good news for Sony and the PS4. Indeed, SOE has previously stated that the PS4 version of Planetside 2 - another PC game on its way to PS4 - will basically be the PC version on maximum settings. Looking forward to this on Feb 5. I could mention Tomb Raider sales PS4 vs Xbone, but I won't because no doubt I will be blasted for doing so!
Frank_mckenzie Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Got my ps4 yesterday and I've just had to ring playstation to get it replaced due to having controller connectivity issues They are bringing me a new console on Wednesday which is a decent turnaround. At least it lasted longer than my first 360
Ashley Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 PS4 has it's first update tomorrow I believe? I find it shit how XBOX ONE & PS4 don't allow users to play 360&PS3 games on there though... Rumours going around that when Microsoft do the first update 360 games will become compatible though? Let's hope so anyway I want to play Halo again before the new one comes out

I read an article somewhere on the reasons they are not backwards compatible and it is damn near impossible for it to happen. Sorry!!

Looks like I'll have to dig out the 360 then
Legend_in_blue Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 The Playstation Now service will allow you to download ps3 titles I believe. There's also talk of ps1 and ps2 emulators for ps4.
dave_the_fox Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 **** you MS. Looks like I'll have to dig out the 360 then The aforementioned article mate http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/dec/12/ps4-and-xbox-one-so-why-arent-they-backwards-compatible
Frank_mckenzie Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 When I bought the console it worked for a few hours and then thr controller disconnected, from then on anytime I tried to turn the controller on it just flashed a few times and then went back to charging mode. I took my controller back to be replaced thinking that was the issue but the controller only works it you boot the console up in safe mode, so spoke with playstation again and they said that I could have a replacement. looking around a few forums it seems to be happening more than you would think

Let's hope so anyway I want to play Halo again before the new one comes out its the 2nd update(after the first one out the box). on updates, there annoying but having seen changelogs etc I think there worth the hassle have to say, Im kinda annoyed there isnt backwards compatibility with the new consoles, but lucky PSN is getting Playstation Now(EU depends on the Beta trials going on atm I think, but most probably be early 2015) I think the 2 companies want us to play the last gen via streaming/cloud. glad to see Sony has gone for a friendly PC based programming for developers this time, hopefully we'll see more PC only games coming to consoles...well PSN(as MS's indie clause is pretty crap for developers atm) I want Papers,Please on consoles!!.
dave_the_fox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Aahh ok cheers Frank. His has worked ok just every now and again it the controller needs re-synching.
Beliall Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 The Playstation Now service will allow you to download ps3 titles I believe. There's also talk of ps1 and ps2 emulators for ps4. yes, and im hoping i wont have to pay to play titles i already own. otherwise it'll be a bit of a piss take
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 yes, and im hoping i wont have to pay to play titles i already own. otherwise it'll be a bit of a piss take You'll defo to have to pay for titles you already own

Manwell Pablo Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 looking forward to playstation now just hope its not too expensive. Has there been any mention on price or when more details will be released? It was released in 1995, you can get one for a tenner on Ebay.
kingcarr21 Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 It was released in 1995, you can get one for a tenner on Ebay. 'Playstation Now' (Awkward F*****)
Beliall Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 You'll defo to have to pay for titles you already own i dont see why thats funny, i have already purchased games on PSN, why should i have to buy them again?
kingcarr21 Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 i dont see why thats funny, i have already purchased games on PSN, why should i have to buy them again? From what i understand you dont pay for individual games you pay a monthly subscription and have access to a whole library of games to download and play. Its basically Netflix but gaming
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 i dont see why thats funny, i have already purchased games on PSN, why should i have to buy them again? I found the suggestion that you were going to get given something by a major games company amusing. In case you haven't noticed it's not exactly the most customer orientated industry at this moment in time!
Beliall Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 From what i understand you dont pay for individual games you pay a monthly subscription and have access to a whole library of games to download and play. In case you haven't noticed it's not exactly the most customer orientated industry at this moment in time! but i already own a copy? why would i want to pay to play it again when i can just dust off the PS3?

I believe Playstation Now is the Gaikai service you are referring to (I think this is true but i could be wrong)

Don't think of this from a customer point of view, gaming company's don't care about customers anymore, this has been made abundantly obvious for some time. Game costs money - You don't download game because you already have it - they get no money Game is free as you already own it - you download it - they get no money - they have to pay the costs of implementing some sort of code system to verify the fact that you've bought it. This is not to mention people could potentially sell codes etc on ebay or give them to their friends if they don't want to download a PS3 title they own a hard copy of, or if they are getting an Xbox One for example and are looking to sell up, sell the code, sell the game, practically selling the game twice. Absolutely no chance. Best you can hope for is that Netflix type system

Ah, possibly then (although far from a guarantee I'd imagine) I thought you were talking about downloading versions of hard copy's that you still own.
