Guest CityFan 06 Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Just wanted to point out guys, recently i have sent an email to the club regarding pre match songs and tunes. I suggested during the email about putting on When Your Smiling before Kick Off. They then replied "Thanks for your email, i will send this idea to our Media Section of the Club." Don't know whether anything will come of it but worth a try? what do you think?
Captain... Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I think you should have asked them to play "When You're Smiling" much better song
hairy Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Anything has to be better than Hey Jude. What has that song got to do with LCFC?
BlueBlue Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I think you should have asked them to play "When You're Smiling" much better song Bit harsh. Would be good to have a more traditional version of 'Wen Ur Smilin' rather than the clever Budd arrangement, so that people can sing along more easily.

As long as it's not the one of that bloody car advert, horrible version, Hyundai I think: This is the version, can't find the advert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZLfQaSoBY8 Just don't like the twee nature of it, did we ever agree on which is the best version? We all know that Jersey Budd is a poor version, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what is the definitive version that we should sing. Oh and agree that anything but bloody Hey Jude, such a weak and limp song with a crappy sing-a-long bit.
ADK Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Surely whatever "version" you pick it will be sung too fast and with absolutely no tune.
Captain... Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Surely whatever "version" you pick it will be sung too fast and with absolutely no tune. But if it is to be played over the PA, then people will sing along and hopefully all at the same tempo, I think if we're going to ask them to play it we should at least ask them to play the version we like, I also suggested on one of the many other WYS threads that there must be some musical talent on this forum, if we recorded a fans version and bigged it up on twitter and stuff, maybe changed the lyrics a bit to included Leicester, or make a nice video and intersperse classic commentary, then the club would play it, like they did heroes in blue and white and Jersey Budd's version.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I've got a better idea, why don't they ask the media section to shut the feck up so WE can create an atmosphere in the ground pre match? So we can actually be heard, and not have any chanting and singing obliterated by pop songs and so called sing-a-long tunes. Sorry, I'll pop off back to the 70/80's ;-)

Trying to get them to play a decent version of WYS will be like getting blood from a stone. I like your idea of re-recording it though. I'd love us to get Engelbert to do it Have him sing a verse then get a group of fans to sing the second one, doing the 'the Leicester!' and clapping bit at the end. Then we'd play it before kick off and there'd be no excuses for our fans not getting the tune, speed, words or tone right. There's a certain way I'd like us to sing it that's a bit of a mixture between the classic song and more crowd singing version, it would sound unreal if a good number sang it, but obviously it's hard to convey in writing.

Too many grumpy old sods.

Just before kick off would be best but I would not like the Budd version. I would prefer more traditional by greats like Armstrong or Sinatra.
ADK Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I do envy clubs like Liverpool and West Ham that have decent songs associated with them.
I blame Wellens Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I do envy clubs like Liverpool and West Ham that have decent songs associated with them. Seriously you envy them. Worrying.
ADK Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I envy the fact they have half decent songs, not the clubs themselves.
Deucalion Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I've never liked WYS either. Maybe we should sing 'Welcome Home' by Inglebert Humperdink. I don't expect anyone to agree with me btw.

bluesbrothers Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I'd be happy to join in with any caterwauling if we did make a version of our own. The best version has got to be the Frank Sinatra one ! This. A million times over.

Voll Blau Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 Again it's fans expecting the club to create the atmosphere. I've got news for you folks, it's up to YOU.
Mack Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 That Jersey Budd bloke sang it live before a game a few weeks ago, and no one paid attention. I think the club have done their bit on this already.
tomtom Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I know the chap who picks/plays the music personally, .. Think he just pretty much picks what he wants nowadays (no club directives) When I suggested not playing any music just prior to kick off ( or even just not playing it so loud) due to it killing any atmosphere he said the club think they need to play it due to us being unable to create our own!
jammie82uk Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 I'm prepared to be shouted at and abused but why is it our anthem and why have I never heard it at the club, is it a anthem that some fans have picked because surely if the club had picked it they would play it
jonthefox Posted 1 October 2013 Posted 1 October 2013 At the speed L1 sing it you would have thought slayer did the original version.

Can you invite him on here, just to hear the fans view, we accept we have to have pre match music (well some of us do), but it would be nice if they took some input from the fans.
