Leicesterpool Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 I'd be interested to see who'd be on everyone's potential 23 man england squad for the world cup next of course if we qualify, maybe you could put down the squad you'd like to see and the squad you think most likely will be picked. Be interesting to review this at the end of season. So the 23 man squad (at the moment) Goalkeepers: John Ruddy, Fraiser Forster & Ben Foster Defenders: Kyle Walker, Glen Johnson, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Michael Dawson, Leighton Baines & Ashley Cole. Midfielders: Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Ross Barkley, Michael Carrick & Gareth Barry. Wingers: Nathan Dyer, Aaron Lennon, Joe Cole & Theo Walcott. Strikers: Wayne Rooney (been in form), Gabriel Agbonlahor, Rickie Lambert, Jermaine Defoe, Danny Welbeck & Daniel Sturridge. Sadly no room for either Leon Osman or Jojo Shelvey yes 25 here but i just can't decide who to take off? Likely england squad Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, John Ruddy & Ben Foster Defenders: Kyle Walker, Glen Johnson, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Chris Smailling & Ashley Cole Midfielders: Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Michael Carrick, Jack Wiltshire (probably be injured) & Tom Cleverley. Wingers: Theo Walcott, James Milner. Ashley Young Strikers: Wayne Rooney, Jermaine Defoe, Danny Welbeck & Daniel Sturridge. only got 21, still trying to work out the other three. I've got a feeling poor Rickie Lambert will get snubbed. Plus Hodgson will say Barkley isn't ready yet.
Uncle Albert Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 A bit to early for me to be thinking about World Cup squads.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 What I think it will be.... Keepers: Hart, Foster, Butland Defenders: Walker, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Cole, Baines, Lescott, Jones Midfielders: Gerrard, Wilshire, Lampard, Walcott, Young, Milner, Carrick, Ox Strikers: Rooney, Sturridge, Wellbeck, Defoe Don't think Lambert will make it and Cleverley is the only one I wasn't sure about. Think Jones will just pip him because he can play defence and midfield. What I would like it to be: Keepers: Hart, Foster, Butland Defenders: Walker, Johnson, Jagielka, Cahill, Dawson, Lescott, Baines, Cole Midfielders: Gerrard, Wilshire, Carrick, Ox, Cleverley, Lennon, Walcott, Lampard Strikers: Rooney, Wellbeck, Sturridge, Carroll
Bert Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 If we qualify, what I'd like to see (it won't happen and you'll see why) Hart, Forster, Foster. Johnson, Walker, Cole, Baines, Terry, Lescott, Jagielka, Cahill. Gerrard, Lampard, Wilshere, Milner, Barkley, Cleverley, Carrick, Walcott. Rooney, Sturridge, Carroll, Welbeck.
Uncle Albert Posted 3 October 2013 Posted 3 October 2013 1. Hart 2. Forster 3. Foster 4. Johnson 5. Walker 6. Cahill 7. Jagielka 8. Jones 9. Lescott 10. Cole 11. Baines 12. Gerrard 13. Lampard 14. Wilshire 15. Carrick 16. Barkley 17. Walcott 18. Oxlade-Chamberlain 19. Townsend/Sterling 20. Rooney 21. Defoe 22. Lambert 23. Sturridge

Aus Fox Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Liam Moore? Jamie Vardy? David Nugent? Danny Drinkwater? Matty James? Marcin Waselliski? If only Conrad was English he would make the perfect 3rd goal keeper do much experience with travelling to games to sit an watch with no possibility of playing.
Guest ttfn Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 We're making a huge assumption that we'll get there and form/fitness can all change but if I were naming my squad tomorrow (assuming all fit) it would be: Hart Foster Forster Walker Johnson Jagielka Jones Cahill Lescott Baines Cole Gerrard Lampard Carrick Barkley Wilshere Walcott Milner Townsend Rooney Sturridge Lambert Welbeck If we play 4-4-2 I don't see a good reason not to play Baines at left mid.
Brainy Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 The knee-jerk reaction at not taking Joe Hart ! Lets be honest most people who want to take Fraser Forster (as #1 choice) have only ever watched him two or three times. All against Barcelona funnily enough

Lets be honest most people who want to take Fraser Forster (as #1 choice) have only ever watched him two or three times. All against Barcelona funnily enough And these same people probably don't remember Hart's brilliant display against Dortmund last season at the Etihad.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Do not get that people are suddenly including Andros Townsend in England squads. He's had a decent start to the season but let's be honest, he hardly set The Championship alight in his numerous loan spells. Barkley would have to sustain the start he's made across the course of the whole season if he's to be involved for me too. Yes, Cleverley might not be outstanding but at least he's been around a bit more and has a bit more nous than Barkley at this stage in his career.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 Goalkeepers: John Ruddy, Fraiser Forster & Ben Foster Joe Hart may have dropped a few clangers recently but he's the best goalie we have. The others make mistakes, they're just under the radar because they aren't as high profile.

Had Thomas Müller been around all that long when he tore us a new one in South Africa? He'd only had one full season of top flight experience and was one of the tournament's best players. Experience isn't everything.

But Townsend is currently in the England squad and the question was who would you take to the World Cup, surely we can only base that on inform players now, hence why Townsend was put into mine and other peoples squads. Remember a certain Michael Owen going to a World Cup as an unknown and setting the tournament alight. I'd love us to do that again, England take a young winger like Sterling, Zaha or Townsend and them go out to Rio with no fear and run and attack players, it won't happen under Roy Hodgson for obvious negative mind set reasons.
Leicesterpool Posted 4 October 2013 Author Posted 4 October 2013 I forgot to mention Ox, though he is going to be out for most of the season , then again it could mean he'll be fresh for the world cup I don't get why every world cup we only take four forwards! we always struggle for goals in the tournament! more strikers the better.
eye666 Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 England aren't blessed with a wide selection of top drawer strikers at the moment, hence why we only take 4.
kingfox Posted 4 October 2013 Posted 4 October 2013 What I want. 1.Joe Hart, 2.Fraser Forster, 3.Ben Foster 4.Glen Johnson, 5.Micah Richards, 6.Phil Jones, 7.Phil Jagielka, 8.Gary Cahill, 9.Michael Dawson, 10.Leighton Baines, 11.Ashley Cole 12.Michael Carrick, 13.Jack Wilshere, 14.Frank Lampard, 15.Steven Gerrard, 16.Ross Barkley, 17.Theo Walcott, 18.Raheem Sterling, 19.Adam Lallana 20.Wayne Rooney, 21.Jermain Defoe, 22.Daniel Sturridge, 23.Rickie Lambert
Stadt Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 Other than Hart, what keepers have played a full game for us?

I'd be more worried about the fact you have chosen to take three goalkeepers with a combined 6 caps between them and all of them are for Ben Foster.
The People's Hero Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 You can't not take Hart, that's madness. I know he's no longer untouchable, but he's been there and done it, has the experience, fairly regularly plays at international level with these defenders, won't be cowed on the biggest of stages and perhaps most importantly is comfortably within the most talented English goalkeepers we have to pick from. There is an argument for him perhaps not starting in some games and giving someone else a go, especially in case Hart does completely lose it, but not to take him as one of the three is a bizarre and mindless argument.
