Nalis Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 Been waiting for ages for someone to reply to that, cheers pal. No worries dude. Good things come to those who wait, as proven here.
BoyJones Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 When I was a lad, the most famous person to come out of Coalville was Action Man.
Kinowe Soorie Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 I heard they dropped am atomic bomb on co-vill, caused about twenty quids worth of damage You're still a door knob
Livid Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 Yeah i like the A50 coming into Coalville Hmmm I wouldn't take the A50 into the ville, unless you fancy going via Stoke. The town centre has suffered the same fate as any number of similar towns. They have empty units in the Highcross, what chance have 60's developments like those in Coalville got. There's certainly a lot of new builds in the area so it's not like people are deserting the town. It's just going to take a revolutionary rethink to revitalise the town centre. I grew up in the town and i'm sorry people will lose their jobs but I won't be sad to see Snibston close. Partially because it's losing money and because 30 years ago the town should have drew a line under its mining past and moved on. Instead they left a relic on Ashby Road casting a dark shadow over the place.
ramboacdc Posted 27 July 2015 Posted 27 July 2015 snibby closes on Friday but good news! the emporium is reopening! my ex and our daughter live in coalville....luckily i was able to escape!
Darkon84 Posted 27 July 2015 Posted 27 July 2015 Shame to see Snibston close down. I enquired about acquiring one of the sculptures there which was created by my Uncle, but they wanted £2000 for it. I bet it'll end up being chucked anyway. Bastards!
Freesolo Posted 27 July 2015 Posted 27 July 2015 I can remember going to Passion about once a month for years from the year 2000 when i turned 18 onwards had some awesome nights there. has that shut down now i haven't been in like 10 years

Source? And verbal rumours that people pass on in the town are not a source I've heard people saying that since it closed but never one credible snippet of information
Thracian Posted 27 July 2015 Posted 27 July 2015 You`re right, I live a couple of miles away from Swad and it is growing. A lot of folk round here used Burton more than Swad but thats changed and since they built a huge Morrisons, Iceland, Argos, Home Bargains, cinema, LIDL, Costa Coffee, etc. I used to shop in Burton every week but I`v probably been 2 or 3 times in the last 6 months. Swadlincote used to be all card and charity shops it was shite, but they`ve turned it around in the last few years, I think Coalville could learn a thing or two from them. Big towns are blighted by ever decreasing parking opportunities as well. Too many councils seem to delight in attacking the motorist - the very people who create a great deal of such wealth as there is. It's all about indirect taxation either through charges or fines and to hell with the effect on businesses and the people who might have used them.
Vardinhio Posted 27 July 2015 Posted 27 July 2015 Look at Ashby, Loughborough and now even Swad offering chain stores with some up to date bars and resturants...Coalville has no chance these days. As has been said the only thing going for it is its commuter route location.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 I'd still like Emporium to open back up not gonna happen though Snibston Discovery Park, well it was quite a niche museum so from reading how much it cost to operate vs. the people that actually used it or the revenue it generated I think makes sense. Emporium opens next month pal
