Rincewind Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Could you quote some sections from that article to illustrate your point? Difficult to choose one. But I would say the headline and paragraphs 1-60 would just about cover it.
Bettsj2 Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 In 20 years time i'd be shocked if religion of any kind played any part in our society. Terrorism in the name of God turns more off religion than on. Most of my muslim mates dont consider themselves muslim anymore simply because they dont believe in it same as I no longer consder myself catholic as I just dont believe it anymore. Sharia law is an outdated idea that a handfull of people are clinging on to for dear life for some sort of power trip. Any woman who allows themselves to be controlled by such law will soon open their eyes and break free from it. History has taught us that this always happens and there is no reason to think it wont happen here. I'm amazed anyone still clings to religion for anything. Full of corruption and murky goings on.
Webbo Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Difficult to choose one. But I would say the headline and paragraphs 1-60 would just about cover it. Should be easy then. Just give us 1 sensationalised quote , 1 example of an untruth or 1 attempt to stir up hate.

Isn't everything?
Bettsj2 Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Isn't everything? Yup. Which is why it will die out. Its been used to control us for years but people wont be fooled forever.
Guest MattP Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Yup. Which is why it will die out. Its been used to control us for years but people wont be fooled forever. I hope so but I can't see it. Only in Europe is religion decreasing. It will always flourish in poverty stricken nations as it gives people with nothing some hope.
Rincewind Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 A fellow I know who also helps out as a volunteer with DNO is a priest with a non-denomination church. He says he allows anyone of any faith into his place of worship. he says if they want a sympathetic ear, advice or words of comfort he is there no matter who they are. If i was not atheist I would join his church but I expect he'd welcome non-believers too. He is really a nice bloke and passionate about the work he does. I don't think the majority of muslims would become extremists on the say so of a few nutters. Most keep their beliefs to themselves and are not interested in converting others. And there are many multi-religious groups that do a lot of charitable work within communities.
Webbo Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Should be easy then. Just give us 1 sensationalised quote , 1 example of an untruth or 1 attempt to stir up hate. No?
ruisliptiger Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I work with lots of Muslims. They are just like us. Mainly nice people let down by a small minority of wankers. Unfortunately it's the wankers that get the most exposure. Immigrants don't come to this country to take it over and claim it as their own. They come for their own personal reasons as this country is seen as being full of opportunity and they want to better themselves. Who on here would emigrate to another country if offered a job that for example doubled your salary?
Finnegan Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Should be easy then. Just give us 1 sensationalised quote , 1 example of an untruth or 1 attempt to stir up hate. The entire thing is sensationalised, the fact they wrote it in the first place is sensationalism because it's over-dramatizing relative non-news. The photo of a stern looking bloke putting up his signs as if it's any actual enforcement, language like " in chilling detail, how he wants to impose Islam’s strict Sharia law on this country." Or: "This is all part of Izzadeen’s concerted campaign to defeat ‘Western decadence’ and turn large parts of Britain — where, his supporters say, ‘people live like animals in a jungle’ — into an Islamic Emirate." Or how about: "Tempting though it is to dismiss Izzadeen as a barmy extremist — which he surely is — the huge influx of Muslims into such areas has turned his campaign into a potentially explosive issue. One in seven of those living in the borough of Waltham Forest is a practising Muslim. Nearby Newham and Tower Hamlets, where leaflets are also being distributed, have populations where, respectively, one in four and one in three follows the Muslim faith." Implying that merely because there are Muslims in the area the threat of extremist sharia and it's practioners enforcing it on, actually, ANYONE, is something to worry about. There are worrying implications, the headline says. Ken might chat a lot of waffle but I'm sorry, the article is indefensibly shit and he's not wrong with his criticism.
Rincewind Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 Thanks Finn for saying what I could not be arsed to. I read the headline and a couple of paragraphs then gave up and estimated them. There was a bit about the crowd looking eagerly on at their hero or something along those lines. More fitting to the first chapter in a novel than a news article.

I seriously doubt Ken's even read it. The entire thing is sensationalised, the fact they wrote it in the first place is sensationalism because it's over-dramatizing relative non-news. The photo of a stern looking bloke putting up his signs as if it's any actual enforcement, language like " in chilling detail, how he wants to impose Islam’s strict Sharia law on this country." If it's actually happened then it's news, just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean that people in the area shouldn't be bothered about it. The photo of the stern looking man sticking a poster up saying "sharia controlled zone, islamic rules enforced" does kind of prove that he does want to impose sharia law on this country. "Tempting though it is to dismiss Izzadeen as a barmy extremist — which he surely is Isn't that exactly what you were saying? I notice you didn't quote this part of the article; Although — and this needs to be stressed — the vast majority of Muslims are moderate-minded, and Abu Izzadeen’s followers remain on the fringe, some of their hard-line policies have started to take root. If this was a thread about the Westboro Baptist Church which has about 40 members worldwide You wouldn't be complaining about sensationalism.
stez Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 All jokes aside, though, this is exactly what I'm talking about. How the **** is Britain's 5% Islamic population (that's assuming the full 5% would ever be in favour of a Shariah Britain, which is beyond ridiculously unlikely) ever going to force the rest of us[/be] to stop wearing heels, listening to music and getting shitfaced? I really just don't see the threat to British culture on any level, anywhere. The only threat is to their own communities and, yes, we should perhaps take that more seriously as a country than we do but standard far-right approach that we're "all" in danger is just barmy. I'd go so far as to say I'm about 350000% more afraid of half of Zingari and Empty's theories coming true than that ugly, ginger scrotum ever imposing on my human rights. Finners in heels? Where do I sign up for shariah law?
Captain... Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 If this was a thread about the Westboro Baptist Church which has about 40 members worldwide You wouldn't be complaining about sensationalism. You would if it claimed they were taking over.
Webbo Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 You would if it claimed they were taking over. That was Lamby not the paper. For the record I don't think muslims are taking over and I've always argued on here for religious freedom.
Rincewind Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I bet there are factories with Muslim workers or even owners that make shoes with high heels. Cannot see them turning away trade if it means going out of business. Like others have said the story is put together in a way to stir up controversy. The photographer probably took dozens of shot of the poster holder and the one selected was the one that suited the editors agenda to sell as many copies of the paper as possible.
Vacamion Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 With looks like this, he's unlikely ever to need them to procreate or shit. How could you ever believe in a Deity, let alone one that cares about whether people are wearing heels or listening to music, if the Deity made you look like this?? This dude should have a sex change and wear a veil, IMO...

I know I'm wasting my time here but I'll give it one last go. Did the Daily Mail make those posters? Is the chap in the photo an actor paid by the Daily Mail to pretend to be a muslim extremist?

Is the chap in the photo an actor paid by the Daily Mail to pretend to be a muslim extremist? Just give up. I've asked ten times now for an answer as to why he said that guy he posted about yesterday was made homeless and turned down for help when it was complete lies as proven by his own link and got not even an acknowledgement. To do that and then have the front to criticise the Mail at length for distorting the truth takes some doing even for him.
johnny the fox Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I can't grow a mother fookin beard. .Im fooked.. Im willing to strap a bomb on and go to paradise but nobody is interested.. help! I need advice I feel sooo inadequate.
Rincewind Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 No and no but it is the way the story is presented that causes it to be perceived as sensationism. It is what journalists do to sell papers. If it was not the Mail someone else would rport on it. maybe from a different angle by wording it different. It is the power of words.

Rincewind Posted 20 November 2013 Posted 20 November 2013 I do not say the Mail is distorting the truth just reporting it in a different way. I've not looked at all the posts from previous pages because there were too many when I got back last night so I marked all as read.
