Modern Life Turning People Off Sex

Recommended Posts

So now we know what the DNO gatherings were really about.

Down & Nobs Out...what did you think it stood for?

Option c) Get beers in. Invite mates round. Watch porn. Have a mass group wank.

Providing roof over the head of the homeless: Very good

Rendering said provision of roof dependent upon participation in depraved communal sexual practices: Not so good

....Mr. Rincewind has room for improvement in his role as a social entrepreneur

I've not had any in 6 months and it's not even due to modern life!

Perhaps it's evolution's way of trying to tell you that it would be a crime against humanity to pass your genes down to the next generation!

I was adding to the previous post not suggesting my preferance. Also DNO is Down NOT Out. I know its not you but just one or two. Trying to wind me up but it is them that look silly. :)

If you think it such a worthless cause Matt maybe you should try sleeping rough over Xmas instead of tucking into your 50ib turkey then sitting around a nice warm fire whilst watching the Queen's speech and opening presents.

On Dec 6th a No Second Night Scheme is starting in Leicester. This means that nobody should be out on the street for more than 48 hours after which time a place should be found for them. If anyone should see anyone on the street send them to the Dawn Centre.

Of course after setting up and spending tvasts sums of money, nothing was put aside to advertise it or tell the media and general public about it so only those involved know about it.

There is also a free contact number to inform people who will be spending cold winter nights helping to find a warm bed for anyone sleeping rough which includes young children.

I expect Matt will say the hildren are alchies and drug users and don't desrve help.

Don't worry. I'd registered what DNO stood for and see it as a worthwhile cause. I was just being silly in the wee small hours.

I don't have the time, or maybe the personal commitment, to get involved to that extent, but do buy Big Issue regularly (often, if not always, an interesting read).

As for "alchies and drug users": well, that's not just a lifestyle choice, even if it's very hard for some to find it within themselves to change their habits - frustrating for those trying to help them, as the change can't come from outside, even if help can. That help may or may not work in individual cases, but each human being is worth the chance. A very good friend of mine, whom I'd known for 30 years, died from alcoholism a year ago. He hadn't ended up on the streets, but had lost his home, wife etc. An intelligent, original, sociable, caring bloke, who probably realised that he was slowly killing himself, even if he denied it in conversation. Any of us could end up in a mess for some reason - and we'd all deserve a chance of help, even if some of us were incapable of taking advantage of it.

Anyway, I wonder how we compare to our European cousins. I've always suspected we British don't have much sex in general compared to those sexy bitches*. I used to live in a a block of flats with basically no sound proofing surrounded by young couples and hardly ever heard anyone having sex. My Mrs and I were the only ones at it more than once a week, I'm sure of that. Considering our appetite for sexy media we're still an incredibly prudish nation.

*this is not an invitation for captain showerless to tell us about his exploits with poverty Spanish birds because nobody wants to hear about that on a full stomach

I know you were joking. You are the ones that are supportive. I know I go on too much sometimes. It is not until one is involved that the reality are apparnt. I just get frustrated sometimes at some of the comments. Maybe they are being wind up trolls but its continuess.

As for alchies and druggies, I agree to some extent that it is one of the main causes for homelessness. But there can be other causes that lead to it. Abuse at home for instance as a child then moved from one care home to another and never being in a stable loving family enviromen probably being told you are useless. It does not help self esteem. Depression and mental illness is another reason, domestic violence, bereavement. Of course the individual can choose to change at anytime but if you have never been in that position it is hard to know what it is lke.

Someone I know who has written an article for the latest DNO paper wrote how he was told he would never amount to anything on a daily basis. He started to believe it ended up in prison. He said it actually done him good. First day he decided to change, set up after a lot of attmpts pursuading prison staff, a magazine inside the prison. He now is editor of a magazine which deals with ex-offenders and ives advice for when they are released. He has said that before he went to prison he had the opinion that those inside were all bad people and deserved everything they got.

I remember the old days when I used to do it while looking at the old "top-shelf" magazines.

Shopkeeper told me to either buy it or get out!

Surely that should be  a "No third night " campaign if it is over 48 hours?

I shall have to think about that. Think it means they want to prevent the second night. its an inititive that started in London. The Government's put a lot of cash in it;

I'm sure it is explained better than I have somewhere.

Off out now. Swapping my Acer laptop for a smaller lighter one with more memory although the bloke doing it has ordered more memory for the Acer.

I have no idea what I've said for this response but I'll reply anyway. No idea why you wrote it in the quote either. (and I rarely open my presents on xmas day, I don't think I have since I was a child)

I won't be sleeping rough at xmas, I will however be helping out with the christmas hampers again for the old folks in the village like I do every year, a bit of spare time and money and you can brighten the day for them as a ot of them are very lonely at this time of year. I realise they don't have the virtue of the homeless.

Heres a pro-active idea for your event on Dec 6th, instead of doing Radio DNO etc and reaching a minimal audience, actually go out to the streets. Get all the volunteers together and round up the 'street guys' and take them back to the Dawn Centre, everytime I go out at night in town I find homeless people so you won't be short of things to do.

If only those involved know about it surely that will be better and a more worthwhile attempt at getting them off than blind hope.

This sounds like the ramlbings of a man who has the watched the Shawshank Redemption and attached it to himself.

Can you pitch my idea about getting people out and about to get the people off the streets into the centre?

I might even join you if you can get it through, hows that for an offer?

Please follow the No Second Night Out blog or twitter page for all of the latest news and updates.

I see at least one problem with this as a tool in getting information to the homeless.
