World Cup 2014 - Official Thread

The Confederations Cup means f**k all, FIFA rankings mean nothing and Italy are just another bang average side qualifying from a very poor group. The fact the masses of people are worrying about them shows how little faith we have in our national team.

Hahahaha like Bert has said England were ranked 3rd once.. They mean sod all.

Honduras are at the World Cup, are they better than Ukraine then?

You've made yourself look so stupid here, basing an argument on FIFA rankings and past triumphs getting you into the Confederations Cup, like I asked what triumphs did Tahiti have?

Tahiti won the OFC Nations. A weak tournament, but theyre a weak team so take them out of the equation.

Honduras are in a world cup qualifying situation with USA, Mexico, Costa Rica. all are at the World Cup, all are in the world top 32. So theyre taking points of fellow world cup teams. We drop points to teams like Poland who are ranked 40 odd places below Costa Rica who youd argue are shit

You said Ashley Cole would get in defence, Gerrard in midfield and Barkley could close the gap, you didn't mention Rooney? Or are you going to try and back track..

Exactly I didn't mention Rooney........ or the attacking prospects on either side....I was comparing our defence and midfield, so no I'm not trying to back track as  I've not said Rooney wouldn't get in their team. Although as I've said if we're putting any faith in that lad to get the job done in the summer we're in trouble as he normally spends most major tournaments wandering round like he'd rather be in the VIP area at Cafe Mambo.

No wonder Japan are so bleeding high, they're accumulating FIFA ranking points in World Cup qualification v Oman, Iraq and Jordan, for crying out loud your argument gets even worse..

The ranking points are weighted you dork. Jesus

Posted

Maybe we could be world number one by organising a shedload of friendlies vs San Marino, Luxembourg and Andorra and smashing them?

Thats why a weighting is applied.

Posted

Yes them teams are at the World Cup because their qualifying system is shit you stupid idiot, they play absolute dross to qualify!

So when they beat these shit teams in qualifying they accumulate the same FIFA ranking points a European team would, yet the difference is the European sides are facing better opposition.

Seriously how can you not realise how messed up the FIFA rankings are?

Poland are a better side than Cost Rica, nobody but you would say otherwise!

I know the point youre making Bert, and its a fair one, but generally speaking, the rankings are a lot closer to reality than people make out certainly

Fair enough, but I'm inclined to agree with Albert. Italy and England are currently two teams at a similar level. You could argue one is marginally better than the other but there really isn't all that much between either side. They are beatable and we have the team to beat them.

Read above post that says weighting is applied to the accumulation of ranking points.

Weighted yes, but they're consistently playing more games against poor opposition, the only time Japan will face testing opposition is when they play a Friendly in Europe or South America and at a World Cup, guess what usually happens? They lose. Why? Because they're not a very good side.

Like when they drew with Holland and beat top seeded Belgium last month.

yeah their shit.

Oh God, here we have it now.. Japan are going to win the World Cup.

You lot are ridiculous. Japan are not a good side.

I think maybe, its time to stop blindly arguing against facts with subjective opinions, cut out the insults directed at people, stop putting words in peoples mouths, and consider what youre saying.

Hard facts win the day. im not arguing any further.

Your ridiculous mate and you've clearly had a few, I don't remember saying Japan would win the world cup but they've got a few decent players and their capable of giving top sides a game on their day.

Hard facts is as well Japan lost to Belarus and Serbia in October, so.. But no, as long as they're higher in the FIFA rankings they're a good side are Japan.

The "hard fact" refers to the fact that Japan are tidily placed in the world rankings, are more than capable of playing to their ranking by surprising top teams here and there, and are considerably better than you are giving them credit for.

No one's saying their brilliant mate, just saying their capable on their day, aren't they ranked like 30 something anyway lol

Edit: 48, which if anything I'd say is harsh on them

Posted

So you're saying Japan are better competition for Italy and the other teams in the Confederations Cup because they won the Asia Cup? You're getting worse.. Don't justify Japan being in that competition and try and make them out to be a good side because of winning the Asia Cup.

Seriously do you think Japan are better than Poland, Ukraine and Montenegro?

lol

Wow you really do consistently make yourself look a twat on here.

I dont think anything will get through to him. Theres a "good" pile with about 5 teams in it and everyone else falls into varying degrees of shit.

I'll give them credit when it's deserved but I'm not going to say they're a better team than Poland, Ukraine or Montenegro purely based on FIFA rankings. Simple as that!

FIFA rankings are ridiculous, if you can't see that then fair enough, you're the fool in this debate because everyone else knows how messed up they are. Let's take Switzerland for example, they're not better than Italy, Holland and England are they? No but they're ranked higher..

Basing a debate on FIFA rankings and participating in a Confederations Cup is easily the funniest thing I've ever bitten to on this site.

That one took me back a bit too lol

Do you think Japan are better than Montenegro? Um.......yes lol

Conveniently failing to point out that Japan drew against Holland and beat Belgium in November...

For the record I'm in the camp that believes the difference between us and Italy is marginal. They're not these worldbeaters that some are making out, we've definitely got the quality to deal with them.

Their better than Ukraine or Monetenegro they've actually got a handful of top players running through the spine of the team like Honda, Nagatomo, Kagawa and a decent goal scorer in Okazaki. Poland are a work in progress IMO with the right managerial appointment they could turn themselves into a team that's hard to beat with attacking talent that could cause good teams problems.

I think there is relevance in arguing the toss in favour of any European team making that tournament, some toss does qualifty on occasion but if you're European you've made the final or won the Euro's or the World Cup and that's not to be scoffed at.
