Freeman's Wharfer Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 We should be expecting to finish 2nd. Italy should win the group, Uruguay will be tough but we should be expecting to beat them, Costa Rica with all due respect should not be written off but finish bottom of the group. If we don't qualify past the group stage it will be a failure and a disappointment imo. Really?! I think Uruguay will be the strongest in the group personally.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Apparently FIFA are contemplating moving England v Italy away from Manuas and doing a swap with Uruguay v Costa Rica. Where have you heard/read this? We've got tickets to see everyone but England in Group D so would love to suddenly find myself with a ticket to England vs Italy rather than Uruguay vs Costa Rica but I'm certain it won't happen. They might swap the kick-off times to suit television audiences in Europe better but I don't think there will be any change of venues/cities.
Guest shearfox Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Really?! I think Uruguay will be the strongest in the group personally. I think Italy are better, Uruguay didn't have it all their own way in qualification and can be beaten.

ScouseFox Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 I'd be more concerned with Uruguay than Italy. We matched Italy in the Euros and I think we're better than then and they're marginally worse, and there's a bit of unknown for both that could swing it either way due to heat/humidity/location etc. Uruguay could rip anyone apart with that front line. Suarez, Cavani et al vs Cahill/Smalling/Jagielka will not be pretty.

I'd fancy our chances against Uruguay if we could keep the ball and starve their front 2. Sadly (and this is no criticism of Hodgson) that's not how we're set up to play. I'd be delighted if we got out of the group.
ScouseFox Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18905960 So? That was the Olympics, wasn't taken seriously by anyone, wasn't England it was GB, was in the UK not South America, I could go on but you should get the picture (you probably don't though). They passed it more than we did and had more shots but we still drew after 120 minutes. Rooney clearly wasn't fit so we were never going to score. Set up a bit differently with a fully flowing Rooney and new kids like Townsend etc we could match them again I reckon.
wattolcfc Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Not me though that seems very good value.May consider a sport ops 'day trip' if they do one and if theyre cheap enough. How many caps do you have? Not enough to guarantee me tickets but if not I will just get one out there. I went to the Euro's and there were people who left it until kick off and picked up tickets for less than face value. Sport Ops are supposed to be really good tbh but I arrange everything myself. 7 of us did Euro 2012 for £1700 and that was everything for 3 weeks including seeing Noel Gallagher in Kiev and spendo.
Charnwood Norris Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Talk elsewhere on the net that FIFA might switch the kick-off time/location of our match v Italy and Uruguay v Costa Rica which is earlier in the day as happened in 2002 to suit all 4 countries.. The Sweden v England game in 2002 was move back to an evening kick-off swapping with Argentina v Nigeria. I bloody well hope so.
ScouseFox Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Any time on the Saturday would be ok I guess. I'm already excited for a 2am-er tho so hope it doesn't get moved.

Well it was obviously taken seriously by Uruguay seen as though they sent Suarez and Cavani to play for them.
Charnwood Norris Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Jonjoe Shelvey is our key man in a 5 man midfield with Carrick as anchor and Rooney upfront alone. He is better than Wilshire, who has got to be the most overated England player ever. Hart Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines Carrick Townsend, Gerrard, Shelvey, Chamberlain Rooney
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Honestly think we can do that group. 2 draws and a win will do it

Refusing to bite. Definitely not going to bite.
Jimothy Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Think we can sneak through. Uruguay will probably win all three games. If we can draw with Italy it's basically a shoot of who can beat Costa Rica by the most goals. Obviously a win against Italy or anything against Uruguay would then be a bonus.
Charnwood Norris Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 If we draw with both Italy and Urugauy and beat Costa Rica we'll have 5 points. That should be enough but it'll come down to goal difference me thinks.
Kitchandro Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Italy and Uruguay are both better than us. I was impressed with Italy at the Confederations Cup and they reached the final of the last Euros. I think they've improved as an attacking force but perhaps are weaker at the back than usual. Is Pirlo out of the tournament? I'm not sure Uruguay are a better team but I wouldn't be surprised to see them top the group.
Aus Fox Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 The draw looks ok for me, playing Italy first is a bonus. Every tournement they start of slow, and grow into it. Playing them first gives us a great chance. Playing Costa Rica last also give us the chance to get a result when we need it, i watched them play last month against Australia and they were the worst team I have seen live internationally. ( I have watched Bharain, Qatar and Indinesia recently) 2 draws and a win should see us through. From there I think our usual quater final spot awaits.
EnderbyFox Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Don't see the hype around Uruguay personally, they finished behind Ecuador in qualifying and had to go through the play-offs. Bar Cavani (who I think is a tad overrated), Suarez and Possibly Godin, I wouldn't trade any of their XI for ours. Lugano still starts for them and he doesn't even get in the West Brom team. Obviously the climate is in there favour but I still don't think we should fear them
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 yeah agree, Italy much more of a threat than Uruguay
Tom17LCFC Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 how so? Just the fact of a Weekend session going through to Sunday morning ready to watch England play. Imagine the atmosphere will be quality.
GingerrrFox Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 I would love if this was the team for the first game against Italy and Roy just thought **** it. Hart Smalling Jones Terry Cole Carrick Wilshere Ravel Morrison Townsend Rooney Zaha

I've done day trips by sport ops- Kiev, and Basel and yeh theyre brilliant. Like you id much rather have gone for the duration but all my mates are under the thumb. I'm just mega excited for France. Ill be hoping to have a camper van there for 3 weeks
Jordan Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Un****ingbelievable. USA start off vs their nemesis Ghana, then fly all the way across Brazil to Manaus to play Ronaldo & Co. in the Amazon, then fly a million more miles to play Germany four days later. Come on, Klinsi; pull a rabbit out of your hat next summer!
