Langston Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 I'm not convinced AVB was buying the players in the first instance. 'Spurs model is definitely holding them back from being anything other than nearly-theres in this country, it stunted the progress they'd made under Jol and has done for Villas-Boas.
Brainy Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 That said I expect somebody like Chelsea or Man City to sign Barkley in the summer then use him and wreck him as has happened with Rodwell etc.
sdb Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 You're Roy Hodgson and can only take 2 of the following 3 to the WC: Huddlestone Barkley Wilshire Interested to hear peoples thoughts, although I reckon I can guess most responses.

foxfanazer Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Barkley and Wilshere without a doubt I'm more excited about Lallana to be honest
ScouseFox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 This is the first England squad of my lifetime that doesn't 95% pick itself. Gonna be exciting/interesting to see what the hell Roy does.

Dan Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 The less obvious names are having very decent seasons. Even the likes of Curtis Davies is staking a claim as daft as it sounds.
sdb Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Huddlestone and barkley, I'm not a massive wilshire fan. That's what i'd go with if the WC started tomorrow. Wilshire's really stalled in the last 6 months or so I reckon. Plus Huddlestone is more of the holding midfielder we need. As for the squad picking itself, i'd have agreed until recently. However there's a good few players really performing at the mo and the current England squad is so average. Sterling, Huddlestone, Shaw, Gibbs, Lallana, Rodrigez, Barkley all have to be very serious contenders.
Devonfox1884 Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Henderson also has to go surely? If he can continue his current form, he's in with a good shout. However, personally i would rather huddlestone went, could be an unexpected sensation IMO.
Super_horns Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Martinez seems to be taking Barkley in and out of the team maybe to ensure he isn't overexposed? Certainly is a talent with great potential - just have to hope he sticks with Everton or if moved on isn't left rotting in the reserves. Quite a few young midfielders are making a mark this season which is good.
Langston Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Only because its all average, if we get to the knockout stages we have done well. It isn't all average, don't be absurd.
