I basically stopped drinking about 6 mths ago and literally havent missed it.

I had half a can of Carling on Christmas day, didnt really enjoy it, so left it.

What I HAVE started doing is drinking those high caffeine drinks.. Monster and whatavya. Im gonna cut down on them now too.

I'm also doin the Dryathlon this year - did it last year and really quite enjoyed it, it's nice to get a break in every now and then.

Yep, agree with FoxesAreBlue - knock it on the head, Col. I got to the point where I was drinking three/four of the small cans of Sugar Free Red Bull, or a few large cans of Monster/Relentless every single day. It's so bad for you. I got a very mild caffeine addiction out of it, made my eyes twitch, racing heart etc. I gave them up cold turkey, but i felt absolutely dreadful for a couple of weeks after while my body flushed it all out and got used to not having so much caffeine every day. Headaches, shakes, nausea... Never thought a soft drink could make me feel so bad!

It is a nice break to not have alcohol for a while. I'm not a massive drinker, yeah I do it when I go out etc and I've done some pretty stupid things (all in the moment of course), but I'd never put myself in a situation where I need to go to hospital. So much pressure on the health service already... That said, I won't be taking part in this dryahtlon being a student and all, but best of luck to those who take part and fair play for dong it!

I used to drink energy drinks a lot as well, Col. Lucozade Orange was my favourite. Literally used it for a normal drink and not what it should be used for. Got over that though, and pop as well, and I stick to water and squash throughout the day now. Feel a lot better. Got a bit of a dodgy stomach as well, and was told fizzy drinks and energy drinks weren't doing me any favours... Only time I drink Lucozade now is when recovering with a hangover. Always sorts me out!

Not going to give up alcohol, I drink very little as it is. I'm going to try to stop drinking coke as I have far too much, reckon I'd find booze easier to be honest!!

I've signed up for this. Put my last bottle of Becks down at 11:59 pm on Dec 31st and haven't had another since. Think I should be able to breeze through it to be honest but it's a cause that means a lot to me, as it will do to many many others unfortunately.

The link to sponsor me if you are as lovely as I imagine you are is below;

Well just about to go out for a pint (or two) now. When the pub has a good selection of real ales it is hard to resist.

I'm back at work. Enjoy spending my tax money down the pub again today mate. Happy New Year :)

if you think you need to quit for a month, you might be an alcoholic

Without trying to sound like an alcoholic, I can't imagine not drinking alcohol. Love an afternoon down the pub with the lads watching footy amd playing pool

I don't agree with that at all. I drink a lot and I wouldn't particularly want to go a month without it but I'm not an alcoholic.

The same as I don't want to stop playing Rugby for a month, or not play video games for a month. I enjoy all of them and have no reason to stop doing any.

Yes, as it's for charity

I'm going to get drunk every day in January, will you sponsor me? It's for charity.

The same arguments came up last year, it is not an achievement, unless you are actually an alcoholic, and things like social media mean we all get a lot more requests for "sponsorship", for basically doing nothing, "will you sponsor me for not shaving my top lip?", "will you sponsor me for not drinking?" on Facebook and e-mails. And that is from people I actually know (I tell them to fvck off too).

Don't drink for January, good for you, but don't expect people who don't know you to part with their hard earned cash. And do (on past form on here) expect to be told where to go.

Will you be donating the money you save for not drinking?

Idiot, I do wonder if one of the so called 'big hitters' had posted this then they would of had a far lot more donations....
