gazfox9 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 The game has evolved massively since he played it in. The days of a hustle and bustle centre forward are gone, the game is so much more technical now. Absolutely agree. In his prime he wouldn't get within a sniff of our 11, yet talks like hes played at AC Milan and Dortmund!
theessexfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 So was King effective or just steady? Steady.
Bert Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 So was King effective or just steady?Steady, but what he did was effective!
foxfanazer Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Steady, but what he did was effective! So was he effectively steady or steadily effective?
Bert Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 So was he effectively steady or steadily effective?Steadily effective.
harpendenfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 So was he effectively steady or steadily effective? The effect he had was steadying, and that was effective, because we need his steadying effectiveness today
Soar Fox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 They gave me the impression that Moore and Morgan were poor as well. Just goes to show that if you listen to the radio rather than watch the match live then it's difficult to give an accurate opinion Moore was solid today, won nearly everything in the air and for a young lad didn't let the crowd get to him. He also put in a couple of strong tackles to show he couldn't and wouldn't be bullied.
Devonfox1884 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 The effect he had was steadying, and that was effective, because we need his steadying effectiveness today Same.
fleckneymike Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Don't underestimate the weather, a pig of a day but our 'reserves' negotiated it with relative ease. Staying on your feet was the biggest challenge and eveyone managed that. We faced a piss poor Millwall side, on a 'normal' pitch we'd have brushed them aside but the 'right' team in the circumstances dealt with them.
Mack Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Kasper 8 - The wind was swirling strongly and it was very wet and slippy. These are the perfect conditions for a keeper's nightmare but Kasper was superb as usual and didn't rise to the abuse coming from the Cold blow lane end behind him about his father. He sensibly punched when long range shots being moved by the wind came at him and was brave in coming our to take and wasn't deterred by their physical play. Moore 8 - Superb solid more stay at home type performance from our young star. Has an assurance and confidence in difficult situations that belies his age. Nigel chose a back 4 to suit the game and conditions, and gave them instructions to suit, Liam carried out his given task as the true professional that he is. What a credit to the club and our youth system this young man has turned into, and our Manager and coaching staff should take huge credit for that. Wasil 7.5 - Tailor made for a horrid physical game in difficult conditions at a shit hole like the Den. He strong armed off their aggressive play and dealt with high balls and crosses efficiently and with experience. It's just this type of player for this type of situation that we lacked last season. You didn't even notice Morrison was playing. This was the best central defensive performance he has given for us to date for me. Morgan 8 - The glue and organisational mastermind in a back 4 that apart from a brief spell after our second goal worked together to thwart the ugly physical rough and ready industrial play of their opposition. With a foul wicked wind swirling and the pitch sodden there could have been mistakes, but our lads at the back orchestrated by Wes stayed focused and professional and saw them off. Miquel 7.5 - Not a full back by trade he slotted in at LB in a strong stay at home defending role that was given to him by Pearson who gauged perfectly the type of defence we'd need on the day. This was an afternoon for strong stout resolute defence and Miquel didn't disappoint and I was impressed by his physical play. This lad is not afraid to mix it rough with the best of them and that's to his credit, he's another string to our bow this season, again something we lacked last term. We have options at the back now, we've come a long way from this time last season. Knocky 8.5 - Terrorised Millwall and worked tirelessly without the ball. Took his early goal superbly and I loved his celebration in front of our fans. Knockaert has grown as a man and a player since the nightmare at Watford last season, and it's just this sort of blood and guts match in difficult conditions that shows his progression. My overall MOTM King 7 - It was not a game from pretty flowing play or easy to play with the ball to feet so King has to graft in the middle and he did not disappoint. As a CM it's hard to stand out in games like this as most of your work is on the ugly side of the game, he put a shift in and they failed to overwhelm us in the middle. Hammond 7 - He a workman in the middle, nagging away at the opposition when they have the ball and breaking up play. He was another well suited to an ugly windy wet day at The Den and he did not let us down. There was a nervy few seconds after a heavy challenge when I feared the ref might show him a red, but common sense prevailed with only a yellow given depite the cat calls from the baying Den crownd and he continued to be a disrupting influence on their play. Dyer 7 - You cant play ball down strident attacking play in those conditions so Lloyd was never going to push the ball 20 yards in front of their full back and drive into the box, however he never stopped running and was committed to the task until replaced by RDL mid way through the second half. Lloyd never fails to leave it all on the pitch and never gets down on his luck, he'll keep trying whatever the circumstances. GTF 7.5 - Worked his balls off got up and back in a manner that his burly frame would suggest he couldn't keep up for as long as he did. He wasn't adverse to mixing it either which was a pleasant addition to what was a competent performance. GTF is no predator but what he will give you is neat link play and a commitment to the cause. Nugent 8 - Ran a heck of a lot, more than I've seen for a while, worked very hard to hold the ball up and attempted to win his headers with gusto. Their defence struggled to contained him and he got his reward with a neat finish and a goal from open play. For me Nugent is a essential cog in our team, and along with Kasper & Wes forms the spine of our side. RDL 6.5 - Sent on in place of Dyer to work with Liam down the right in a more physical manner that suited the game. Again like Lloyd RDL couldn't push the ball in front of him and run as he likes to do given the conditions so he had to be happy with a more solid display which he provided as the professional that he is. Schlupp 7 - Was given the thankless task of being the lone striker and to begin with ran about a tad like a headless chicken chasing shadows. Our fans were beginning to get frustrated with him until he was put through 1 on 1 with Forde and slotted it between his legs for 3-1 to the mighty Foxes and game over. The lone holding striker role is not for Jeff but that didn't stop him from doing his best. DD 6.5 - Sent on as the most forward of a central 3 when we went to only 1 up front. The game was tense at the time at 2-1 and Millwall had produced some chances after a fair spell of pressure. It was not an easy situation to come into and immediately get up to speed but he did OK. To the credit of our Manager and coaches it was probably due to adding the extra man in midfield that lead to us getting the 3rd goal and killing the game off. This was a truly ugly game at the Den. The weather was foul, the rain was lashing down and the wind was swirling, and this was in truth just the sort of rancid afternoon that an ugly physical Millwall performance may have produced a result against the odds. However our team selection whilst being a shock to me had catered for the circumstances superbly and the game panned out to be an aggressive physical battle that we got the better of by far. Early goals in both halfs dented their plans and with stout tackling and defending we gave a professional display that every LCFC fan should be proud of. As for Millwall, well their fans are still in the main the lowlife scum you'd expect, the place is a shit hole and their team looks every bit the relegation contenders their league position suggests. Had they been more clinical around the box they might have troubled us more for a spell mid way through the second half, but their wayward shooting gave us little to worry about and we finished a perfect Christmas period out superbly in trying circumstances.
Dan Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The game has evolved massively since he played it in. The days of a hustle and bustle centre forward are gone, the game is so much more technical now. You can tell it as well. He's not always wrong but he does talk some shit - made a ridiculous comment the other day saying that full-back is the easiest position in modern football. Don't think I could disagree more. Improved pitches and progressive thinking has made it more technical and I can see it edging further that way for a while yet.

Comprehensive summary Mack - thoroughly good read.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Schmeichel 7.5 - handling was good and distribution commendable in those conditions. Had a huge brain fart with about 15 mins to go when he came darting out of his goal. I have never heard this phrase before, but it made me piss myself
