MC Prussian Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 The result is a fair one. We didn't play our first eleven for the majority of the game and were somewhat outclassed by a mediocre Premier League side. I can live with the loss and I do hope more people realize that promotion is priority number one this season, not the cup competition(s). With the lack of depth in squad, we would hardly be able to sustain the fixture commotions in the next few weeks and months if we would take the FA Cup or League Cup serious. Still, we showed glimpses of class when Dyer and Nugent came on. Yesterday's result shows me that we're not that far off from competing with mid-table Premier League sides. Kudos to 4'500 Leicester fans outsinging the meagre Stoke following. Derby County next... a much more important game.
Carl the Llama Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 If we get promotion I'm not at all worried about us being able to stay up if that's how excited the fans of the team in 12th get after beating the line-up we put out today...
Larry_LCFC Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Oh it was a Wasyl cross, not da laet for Nugents goal. Still good work by RDL though.
Far Post Gerry Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Call me old fashioned but leicester city carved in the fa cup would mean more than promotion and maybe 12 months in the top flight. maybe I'm a sentimental old fool. at 34. I'm the same age and grew up loving the fa cup. Still do, but for once I'm not upset about going out. If we can take one season off, this is it. On a different note, why do we have the fa cup AND league cup? I know it's given us some great memories, but why not scrap the league cup? It just seems a bit pointless nowadays.
foxfanazer Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I thought you said we were going to win buddy? Not me mate?
formidable1 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 That game shows we have a huge need to improve our squad should we get promoted. I know Stoke don't lose many at home etc but they didn't get out of third gear and they too had made changes to their regular line up. I do believe that the non happy clappers on here can see that and I am not taking away the excitement that a promotion chasing season can bring but yesterdays game was a stark reminder of what awaits a team going up, from what is a mediocre standard championship this year. I do also understand that this was probably nothing more than a run-out for NP and his team in terms of this seasons importance but had we played all the regulars, we would have still been beaten comprehensively. All this guff about we had 5 out etc is just nonsense. We could have had 2 Nugents and 2 Dyers on the pitch yesterday and we would have still looked hopelessly out of our depth. I just hope some of the happy clapper mongoloids on here are aware of what's to come should we get promoted to the " Promised land "

It's not as if the squad would be the same, we would strengthen! And just for the record what category of 'mongoloid' do you fall in to?

Blue tinted specs army can't see it. We beat Fulham blah, blah, blah a weakened Fulham who by the way will be relegated from the prem this season along with Wet Spam.

formidable1 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Yes, we beat a shite Fulham side in Freefall at home, still conceding three goals along the way. I would expect any team with aspirations of promotion to be beating a team in disarray, battling relegation positions in the lower reaches of the promised land at home. And I am in the "Non-Mongoloid" category...

And I am in the "Non-Mongoloid" category... I just think people are always looking for a negative. We beat a prem side and the excuse is they're sh1t. We lose 2-1 to a established prem side whilst resting a few key players and all of a sudden we're out of our depth. I would expect Stoke to ve superior to us, Fulham also but if we go up I'd expect us to strengthen significantly

That stoke line up would be competitive against the majority of the premier league Have a bit of respect mate, calling fans "mongoloids" is not on
formidable1 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Fulham were playing away from home in a cup they didn't care about with about 7 changes....And we managed to beat them by the solitary goal....Oooh... . Strengthen significantly or nearly a new team?. Midfield is nowhere near strong enough, along with the strikeforce.. Kasper, Wes and Liam and maybe DD are the only possible starters in a premiership team...

Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 We could've got thumped like QPR or embarrassed at Rochdale. But we didn't, we got a creditable result against a prem team who are always formidable opponents at home

I'd add Knockaert and possibly James to that list 5 changes from the normal line up and crowd apathy suggests otherwise. An established prem team with no relegation fears should be beating a championship team at home without getting out of third gear.....Oh wait a minute...

Which one of those stoke changes wouldn't be able to step into a prem game? Can you see what I'm getting at here?

Dickov22 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Two things that concerned me yesterday: 1) Physicality. I know Stoke are renowned for being a strong physical side but at times our players literally bounced off them. King, Konchesky, James, Knockaert were all brushed off the ball so easily at times. I expect this of King as he's slight, but not the others. It was like men against boys 2) keeping the ball. We just couldn't do it, and they seemed to do it with ease I disagree with Hungry Fox to an extent- I do think our best 11 would have given them a much better game yesterday and I'm so disappointed we didn't play it. There's also the point to consider, that if we get promoted of course we'd strengthen significantly. Yesterday we were really really poor though. Disappointing
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 We lost to Wycombe in the cup once... We lost against Rotherham in the JPT in our L1 season

Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I have to laugh at people who are using yesterday as an indicator for next season if we get promoted
formidable1 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 Understand what you're saying but we were Never ever going to play our full strength team in this game Derby on Friday is far far far more important Is it though? A run out against prem teams doesn't come about everyday. We needed to play the best 11 and see what came of it. A loss would have been on the cards but as Dickov said, it may have given all a look at who was strong enough. Stoke are a big team in terms of physicality but all prem teams have some beasts but we looked lightweight and they were only at a canter. Some would say a little unfit in comparison too...
formidable1 Posted 5 January 2014 Posted 5 January 2014 I have to laugh at people who are using yesterday as an indicator for next season if we get promoted Really? What is going to change so significantly then that yesterday bears no relevance?
