FIFA, World Cup - Qatar '2022'

Unbelievable. I thought it was just one of those rumours that wouldn't happen but I can't believe they've had the cheek to just lie so blatandly. That's without actually addressing the disgrace of the decision itself. Complete farce and I hope some FA's club together to sue/break away from FIFA. If many realise that they wouldn't have power if maybe even a few of the biggest nations stood up. They would have to buckle or face losing some of the best teams in the world.

It's ok they don't celebrate Christmas in Qatar.

I was thinking about this.

No gays players or fans will be allowed to go obviously and Qatar also has very strict laws on expression of religion that isn't islamic.

We could see loads of players being carted away (and the whole Brazil team) if they shows expression to a Christian god on the pitch.

I think it being awarded to Qatar isn't a bad thing. Changing the schedules of when it is to be staged is ridiculous. I'm still hundred percent sure that Qatar won't host it if they don't I hope it's awarded to another Middle Eastern country, rather than the USA and shit like that.

They've denied it? Very odd. I've reached the point now where I've accepted it's happened and I sort of want it to so that some genuine action may be taken.

I have to admit i can see in a couple years the world cup in Qatar being cancelled, i think to many nations are finding this too difficult and complicated to fit into there domestic league schedule.

I think that's the point though. We're going to have to see some sort of movement from the England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France. If we take it lying down then there's no reason for them to not do exactly what they want, we need to upset the apple cart but whether anyone has the balls to take the first step is another matter.

Hopefully we can find a middle eastern country who can host it where people wil be allowed to express their religion and sexuality as well.

"The heat will be too hot for the players and fans" ... Why give it Qatar in the first place then? Surely it's common sense? The World Cup, the greatest Sporting event the World has ever seen, is a summer competition. Move it to winter to accommodate but then you're taking away the domestic league and domestic trophies in every Country.

Why go for all this effort? I said it at the time, but why not just keep it simple and let the footballing nations hold it.

I think soon Fifa are going to be looking at a boycott, but as you say as any nation got the balls to be the first.

Fifa are so daft, they'd even announce the 2026 world cup on the Moon!

Their motives have been obvious from the start. I genuinely believe if there were Martians offering a billion quid for it then they'd have no qualms moving it there. They have one motive and it's the one that's ruined football from top to bottom.

The World Cup should always go to a country where there is a minimum level of interest in football with the prospect of boosting that interest,

What?! So Europe or South American nations shouldn't be able to host World Cups? That's a ridiculous thing to say.

Either I've expressed myself poorly or you've misunderstood, Matt. I meant the opposite!

I meant that it should go to countries where there is already a certain degree of interest - such as European and South American nations, among others. Probably not a great point, though, as thanks to TV, not many countries now have low levels of interest (Canada? Indian subcontinent? SE Asia? .....maybe no longer even applies there).

The ability to provide decent infrastructure/climate and a good experience for fans from all around the world is more of a deal-maker/breaker. Qatar fails on both counts.

Fair enough I read that wrong!

After the next Euros for me. After that, a 2018 Russia World Cup, a 2020 'multiple hosts' Euros and now this utter shambles '2022/23' 'World' Cup. It's absolute shit and I'd be completely behind the FA if they boycotted it.

Why do you have a problem with Russia hosting a World Cup?

The whole Qatar campaign has been a farce from the beginning. How it could get awarded to a country who have never been ranked in the top 50 countries in the rankings and that has never qualified is beyond me. And then looking beyond that is the very strict laws which are almost definitely going to be pushed to the limit, upsetting both the locals and and the travelling supporters from around the world.

The experience could well be ruined as well for the supporters who don't make the trip, I know me and my friends like a good BBQ and a couple of the drinks on the balcony etc before the big matches which won't be possible now.

The only positive I can really think of is that it may help the Qatar government to implement more lenient and less discriminative laws in the future, although this is probably only a very slim chance that will happen.

Absolutely zero chance of that happening.

I thought the whole thing was rigged.

I'm slowly thinking that Russia may not be a dreadful pick, though.

We have 8 years to get some nationalised Muslims that can play football, or get the likes of Barkley to convert, get a team full of Muslims,  then we will win the world cup as all the other players from other nations will be arrested and stoned to death, it will be us and Qatar in the final, we'll squeak a 1-0 win as they all stop mid match for the call to prayer, this is when Barkley reveals he was only pretending and walks the ball into the net, he gets stoned to death too, but it will be worth it. I'm on the phone to the FA as I type.

Imagine - Qatar 2022/2023 still taking place, but all nations just send their B-Teams or fringe players to the tournament.

Or how about a World Cup comprised of only amateurs - analog to the Olympic competitions? lol

Can't shake the image of 25,000 England fans singing...

"It's Christmastime, there's no need to be afraid!"

Ah, I see, man. Thought the proverbial racist can-of-worms was going to be opened.

I can't wait for our media to sensationalise pockets of morons making noise so it seems Russia is caught in some kind of racist epidemic. Hopefully Sol Campbell gets wheeled out again for some scaremongering.
