deanolegend1989 Posted 16 January 2014 Posted 16 January 2014 Scored pens: Vs Birmingham - Dyer cleaned out - Stonewall. Vs Wigan - Vardy gets barged - a lil debatable but is a pen IMO. Vs Blackburn - De Laet - Debatable..given either way. Vs Blackpool - Drinkwater - Hard to see, clipped and goes down..Debatable but probably a pen. Vs Barnsley - Vardy keeper cleaned out - Stonewall. Vs Yeovil - De Laet taken out - Stonewall. Vs Forest - Drinky in the back - very soft I think Vs Burnley - Vardy barged - Stonewall. Vs Reading - Knocky tugged - Pen for me. Vs Bolton - Vardy knicks it away from keeper - Stonewall. Vs Derby - Vardy knicks it away again - Stonewall. Out the 4 we have conceded: Blackpool - Definetly a pen - Silly Kasper. Yeovil - Definetly a pen - Moore cleans him out. Blackburn - Debatable - Drinky kinda clips him but its soft. Brighton was a joke we havnt been effected as Brighton were 2-1 up anyway, maybe could of fought back but we were deserved losers on the day. Id say for us possibly Forest & Blackburn shouldnt have been given. Forest was irrelevent anyway, Blackburn could of helped us(they had a soft one to even out though I think). So overall Id say we deserve most of those pens and thats not my biast opinion, Id say most wouldnt be able to argue a majority of them not being pens.
HesNotGudjonsonn2 Posted 16 January 2014 Posted 16 January 2014 From looking at this site with the small spare time that I have, I am sure there are many fans out there with more time on their hands and who are techy savvy. So why doesn't someone make a youtube video of this seasons penalties and we can all come to conclusions as to which were fair and which were dubious.

Absolutely stonewaller if I remember rightly Out the 4 we have conceded: Blackpool - Definetly a pen - Silly Kasper. Yeovil - Definetly a pen - Moore cleans him out. Guest ttfn Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I make it 5 consecutive home league games in which we've been given a penalty, which is incredible. Nugent has scored 9 out of 12 penalties he's taken this season (so a 75% success rate). As a barometer, in the Premier League, 79% of penalties are scored. This suggests that Nugent is a slightly below-average penalty taker but certainly not a complete disaster by any means. He's certainly not a "good" penalty taker based on these statistics though. I don't think we can really complain about a 75% success rate as it is pretty reasonable, but he has missed 3 (I think) of his last 6, so I wonder if perhaps it might be time for somebody else to have a go or maybe for Nugent to re-assess his approach? I read an interesting comment from a Newcastle fan on the Guardian message boards talking about a really terrible, stuttering run-up penalty Remy took for them against Stoke, which I'd be interested to get people's thoughts on in light of Nugent's recent troubles from the spot... I don't know what it is about some footballers, perhaps it's sheer arrogance, but most penalties that are saved come from short run ups. I've played and watched football for most of my 60 odd years and the evidence is there to behold - penalty takers should not take short run ups if they want to score. And here's why: 1. If the goalkeeper parries the ball the penalty taker will be stuck on the penalty spot with no momentum and not get a second chance to score on the rebound - exactly as Remy was today. 2. The chances of deceiving the goalkeeper are much reduced because it is obvious where the ball will be put. 3. The ball can be hit harder with a longer run up thus reducing the goalkeeper's chances of a save. This is all kids stuff but many footballers are too thick to realise it. If I was a manager of a football team I would not allow short run ups for penalties and what's more, if a player could not hit a standing ball to where he wants it to go from a long run up, I wouldn't allow him to take penalties.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I agree with point 1 there but not sure about point 2. I think the angle of the run-up would give a keeper more idea of where to go. There's obviously something in these shorter run-ups although I don't like them myself. I'm not usually an advocate of "why don't they just...", because of all the sports science and big money in the game these days. Fans can't expect to know better and I've read enough shite on here in the past to trust management over fans on anything, but having said all of that... I can't believe more players don't just do what Gallagher used to do with his penalties.
Banks Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 The one we got yesterday was a replica of the one vs Derby.
Beliall Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 ive just seen nuge's pen vs boro... was really lazy was never going to go in

Unabomber Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 https://www.youtube.com/embed/jMMhkPp_GEs Compilation of all of our penalties this season. That was a good watch, nice one.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 None of which I'd put down to a single dive, anyone disagree? The Burnley one was a little iffy.
cjslcfc Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 The Burnley one was a little iffy. Mee's fault for rushing in and barging into the side of Vardy, personally
The Horse's Mouth Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Mee's fault for rushing in and barging into the side of Vardy, personally Vardy already left the ground though
Carl the Llama Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 https://www.youtube.com/embed/jMMhkPp_GEs Compilation of all of our penalties this season. 1. Stone 2. Stone 3. Stone 4. Stone 5. Stone 6. Stone 7. Hard to tell from the video quality, very little protest from Blackpool's defence is telling though 8. Stone 9. Again difficult to tell, again the reaction from the defence is telling 10. Hmmm. Forest could feel aggrieved by that call had anything come of it. 11. Vardy kicks the ball a distance which I can imagine is the only reason Burnley fan's think it's a bad call. You can't bundle a player over like that. Stone. 12. Stone. 13. Stone. 14. Stone 15. Stone All of which begs the question: Where have the 2 phantom penalties come from? We've only had 13!
TJB-fox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Nuges pens against Bolton and Middlesbrough were almost identical, hope he never takes one like that ever again.
