Lionator Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Come off it. He came through the back of Vardy. It was De Laet and it was very soft although De Laet didn't dive.
AdamN Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Any stats on who it was that was fouled for each one?
Leicfox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Without Vardy we'd have had about 2 pens this season. He's non stop. Vardy has won 5 of the 13 awarded and all have been scored, 4 by nuge and 1 by Wood.
CosbehFox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Just had a discussion with my forest fan father in law, does Nugent and the ball the same way? If so he may start getting caught out No, he clearly waits for the keeper to dive earlier. He got caught out against Bolton as the keeper didn't go. Dwight Yorker never used to decide till the last minute.
Kitchandro Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 No, he clearly waits for the keeper to dive earlier. He got caught out against Bolton as the keeper didn't go. Dwight Yorker never used to decide till the last minute. He almost never puts it the opposite side to the keeper though. I'm not really a fan of that tactic, unless you can do it really well. Some players just have that quality where they can make the goalkeeper panic and jump early. I don't know what's wrong with picking a corner and smashing it as close to the post as possible. Then again, I suppose you have to do what you're comfortable with.
cjslcfc Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 so I make that 13, 11 in the league 2 in the cup. Pretty amazing stat. And there's not been any press on it really. Was the Derby one 100% a penalty? I think it would have only been clearer if Forsyth had done a double jumping kick into vardy's chest
LCCFox96 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I think it would have only been clearer if Forsyth had done a double jumping kick into vardy's chest Yup he redefined stonewall penalty. Read above the Wigan penalty was soft - agreed, but jean beausejour was the guilty man (I think) and he had been appalling at left back all game and drawn numerous fouls (I.e his card was marked.) tbh I think that prompted the referee to give the penalty without a well considered second thought.
A fox for life Posted 12 January 2014 Author Posted 12 January 2014 Just been on the palace Forum and this was there final Tally in their promotion season. A fox for life Posted 12 January 2014 Author Posted 12 January 2014 Also just found this . . . another "do Penalties Count" debate, this time about Messi's record goal haul http://alrickbrown.com/do-penalties-hurt-messis-86-goal-record/
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Apart from maybe one early on maybe it was the brum game, but i think they have been all stone pens
StanSP Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 You've got Dyer, Vardy and Knocky running into the box and some nice play across the box most games and it only takes one misplaced foot. GTF got us one against Forest which was just clever play on his part and which Nuge wasted but we were never going to score in that game. Think it was Drinkwater vs Forest who got it. Defender kind of pushed in to the back of Drinkwater and it was given.
ithuriel Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Think it was Drinkwater vs Forest who got it. Defender kind of pushed in to the back of Drinkwater and it was given. Might be mistaken but I remember it being GTF and it was a soft one, he knew what he was doing, though the ref gave it for Nuge to then try and chip the keeper and after that I knew it was over for that game.

Chip the keeper? He blazed it over . Didn't try and chip it at all. Not that it matters to be honest!
Alf Bentley Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Was the Derby one 100% a penalty? From TV, 100% penalty. When Vardy went down, my instinct was that it was a clear foul but just outside the box. Replays showed that the ref was spot on - just inside the area....stupid, needless challenge from a Sheepish perspective, but who cares?!
Bert Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Come off it. He came through the back of Vardy. How many did Palace get last season? Even though it was De Laet.
K1FOX Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Hard for nugent to keep the keeper guessing which way he is going as he has had so many. Despite him scoring most I still feel he will miss when he steps up. Might be worth giving a couple to someone else if we carry on, keep em guessing. Vardy is brilliant at making the defender make a challenge. Kevin Phillips can take a penalty. With the amount we're getting, wouldn't be suprised if he gets a couple from the spot too before the end of the season.
DanTheMan Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 It's fair to admit that we have had an above average amount of penalties - however, its also an interesting argument as to whether we've been having "too many" or "being favourited by refs"... I'd submit the following: 1) Teams nearer the top of a league will have scored more on average than lower placed teams (makes sense in order for them to be top/near the top). 2) Teams scoring more goals than average will therefore be more likely to have players near/in the box during attacks. 3) More players in the box in dangerous positions/attempting shots will increase the amount of tackles the team's players are subject to. 4) More tackles on players in the box will invariably lead to a higher number of penalties than lower teams! I'd imagine this is especially true if you've got pacy players like we do running at defenders in the box!
Corky Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 We've not had too many, maybe a couple were debatable, but most have been fouls that stopped progress for our player. It's not our fault if referees don't give the same to other clubs in other matches.
Captain... Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 I'm not saying any of them are dodgy, but do you think it is a deliberate tactic by Nige, or just him giving them license to run at them. I wonder if it is something they work on in training, taking on defenders in the box, not trying to draw the penalty, but just trying to take the man on rather than panic and try and shoot, I noticed Lloyd in particular, his decision making in the box has improved, he looks up and will try and pick out the man when it is the right decision, rather than just whack it in the vague general direction. We also rarely look like conceding penalties, although surprisingly we've conceded 4 penalties so far this season, 3 of them were after we had already scored penalties in that game, Blackburn, Blackpool, Yeovil, and then a really soft one at Brighton when Morgan breathed on him. Blackpool was Kasper having a bit of a mad moment, Blackburn was Drinkwater, but I don't really remember it, Yeovil penalty was conceded by Moore, again I can't really remember it. But we rarely seem to dive in, which may be as a result of training against the likes of Dyer, Vardy and Knocky running at you in the box. Also Kasper, after being so good with penalty saves last few seasons 8 saved for us, hasn't saved one yet. Incidentally Derby are second with 7 penalties, but the daft rams have missed 3 of them. Either way we are definitely doing something right.
Harry - LCFC Posted 13 January 2014 Posted 13 January 2014 Who took our pens last season? Marshall 1, Nugent 1, Wood 2, Knockaert 1 They're the only ones I remember. We didn't have many at all last season I don't think.
Guest ttfn Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I don't think the Blackburn one was a penalty in a million years. The Birmingham one was harsh. Other than that they were all nailed on pens from what I've seen. What I will say is odd is that we are getting awarded (almost) all of the penalties that we should be getting. I can't remember having a single gripe about a penalty not being given this season.

Think we were screwed over at Charlton but that's it really.
StanSP Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I seem to remember a couple vs Barnsley that should have been given but weren't. But seriously, that's minor. I'll have to agree with majority of above in that most of the penalties we have been given have been fully deserved.
