A fox for life Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I'm pretty sure we must the be close to a club record this season for the amount of penalties we have been awarded. It's under no doubt that our lightning pace, desire to win games and ooo Jamie Vardy are a large contributing factor. This is an article from the Gaurdian from the 2006 season. "Crystal Palace have been awarded 11 penalties so far this season," observes Dennis Hopkins. "What's the record number of penalties awarded to a team in a season?" Palace are still a fair way away, Dennis. Because in 1971-72, Manchester City were awarded an astonishing 15 penalties in one season - all of which were scored by Franny Lee."
AKCJ Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I make it 12. 8 scored by Nugent. 2 missed by Nugent. 1 scored by Wood 1 scored by Knochesky
Finnegan Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 It's simple really, you get in the box more and you'll get more penalties.
Deucalion Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Do cup games count? Sorry to go off on a tangent but it wouldn't surprise me if we broke this record because Pearson's time here has been characterised by breaking records.
ousefox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Birmingham one at home was the only one that definitely shouldn't have been. Think a couple have been a bit soft and we would never have got them last season. Teams at the top do seem to get a bit of luck for some reason.
Brainy Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 What I find funny is that everybody else sees us as lucky/cheats because of what somebody said above, we actually get in the box to even stand a chance of drawing a foul
AndWhat? Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Speed and quality in the box combined with defences not being able to handle us = penos.
KFS Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 None of which I'd put down to a single dive, anyone disagree?
urban.spaceman Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 So far this season: Date Nation Name Opposition Scored? 6 August 2013 David Nugent Wycombe Wanderers Y 24 August 2013 David Nugent Birmingham City Y 27 August 2013 Chris Wood Carlisle United Y 14 September 2013 David Nugent Wigan Athletic Y 17 September 2013 David Nugent Blackburn Rovers Y 21 September 2013 Paul Konchesky Blackpool Y 28 September 2013 David Nugent Barnsley Y 1 October 2013 David Nugent Yeovil Town Y 9 November 2013 David Nugent Nottingham Forest 14 December 2013 David Nugent Burnley Y 26 December 2013 David Nugent Reading Y 29 December 2013 David Nugent Bolton Wanderers 10 January 2014 David Nugent Derby County More than the last 2 seasons combined (9).

Pretty amazing stat. And there's not been any press on it really. Was the Derby one 100% a penalty?
ithuriel Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 You've got Dyer, Vardy and Knocky running into the box and some nice play across the box most games and it only takes one misplaced foot. GTF got us one against Forest which was just clever play on his part and which Nuge wasted but we were never going to score in that game.
A fox for life Posted 12 January 2014 Author Posted 12 January 2014 Just had a discussion with my forest fan father in law, does Nugent and the ball the same way? If so he may start getting caught out
MGLCFC Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 If you are asking does Nuge hit the penalties the same way, then the answer is no. He does vary his penalties, although since his miss against Forest, they've not been as high.
Kitchandro Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Blackburn was a very soft one. Come off it. He came through the back of Vardy. How many did Palace get last season?

RowlattsFox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Hard for nugent to keep the keeper guessing which way he is going as he has had so many. Despite him scoring most I still feel he will miss when he steps up. Might be worth giving a couple to someone else if we carry on, keep em guessing. Vardy is brilliant at making the defender make a challenge.
RowlattsFox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Think the foul on de laet was only dodgy one, can't remember which game it was though.
TJB-fox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Maybe Burnley and Reading were a little suspect for me, but I'd still say they were both penalties. Look at Palace. They had Bolasie, Parr and Zaha all running at defences at pace=penalties. Same applies for Nugent, Knocky, particularly Dyer and Vardy and hopefully Mahrez!
Corky Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 so I make that 13, 11 in the league 2 in the cup. Pretty amazing stat. And there's not been any press on it really. Was the Derby one 100% a penalty? Yes, was sat in line with the challenge and there was a mark on the pitch where the contact had been made, clearly happened inside the line.
Fox92 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I can't stand "how many of them are penalties" or "how many penalties have Leicester had" because if the referee thinks it's a penalty, then it's a penalty... Nugent's not exactly going to give the ball back to the opposition is he.
Thracian Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I don't see Pearson as the kind of manager who would condone conning the referee in any form. From all I've seen our team tries to play the game competitively but as honestly as any. I don't see over-the-top tackles, players unduly chasing or pressurising the referee or anyone seeking to steal a penalty by diving and I wouldn't want to. I've criticised Pearson for all sorts of things as he's evolved as a manager but I've never seriously questioned his integrity. Indeed it's a quality I quite admire in him.
sdb Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Without Vardy we'd have had about 2 pens this season. He's non stop.
