jimmeh Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Is it me or do we always seem to have a left back on the books who is as much use as Conrad Logan! Obviously konchesky is okay but then you think of bakayogo, Michael ball, Tom kennedy, Ryan mcgivern. Can anyone think of anymore? I can't think off the top of my head! Probably because they never even got a game! Maybe being a bit harsh on Kennedy tbh.
jimmeh Posted 14 January 2014 Author Posted 14 January 2014 Just thought of that priet or whatever his name was !
Narborough_fox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Thought Kennedy was alright, and was probably able back-up for Konchesky but if he wanted first team football then fair play to him. The only other left backs that we have, apart from Konch and Bakayogo, are in the academy. I think Callum Elder is meant to be an alright prospect, playing for Australian youth teams and was given a contract in the summer.
dmayne7 Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Just thought of that priet or whatever his name was ! Same here! Thought he was going to be this world-class full back by the way Adams talked about him.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Definitely Tony Spearing, but also when we lost to Leeds 3-0 in the League Cup about 1990, on YouTube we were playing a black lad at number 3 who looked abysmal?? Not sure who it was, may have been Des Linton??
kingfox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 I think we've been quite lucky with left-backs. As we had Nils-Eric Johansson for a bit of time, then Bruno came. Luckily the shit left-backs we have had recently, were all back up.
LCFC FOX Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Bakayogo was crap against Derby and never got given another chance
Sly Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Just left backs in general, when you look at the ones we've had over the past 20 years, not many stand out as being great! Frank Rolling Micheal Ball Tom Kennedy Alan Rogers Peter Canero Joe Mattock Patrick can Aanholt Ryan McGiven Jamie Clapham Alan Sheehan Darren Kenton Danny Tiatto Nils Eric-Johansson Rufus Brevett Nicolas Priet Patrick Kisnorbo Patrick Gerrbrand Peter Gilbert Jorden Stewart Alan Maybury Chris Makin Andy Impey Callum Davidson Steve Guppy Peter Canero Ben Thatcher Damien Dalaney Jacob Laursen Lee Marshall Phil Ghilcrist Rob Ullathorne Pontus Kámark Julian Watts Mike Whitlow Neil Lewis Simon Grayson Gary Coatsworth Nick Platnauer Jeff Schlupp Paul Konchesky Lloyd Dyer Zoumana Bakayogo
Leicester Lass Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 You're missing Greg Cunningham from that huge list. Always thought he was pretty decent for us.
teblin Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Alan Rogers. We got promoted with him at full back
Jimothy Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 You seem to have just listed a bunch of defenders rather than left backs. I've left in ones below I wouldn't consider left backs. Peter Canero - thought he was a right back Darren Kenton - thought he was a right back too Patrick Kisnorbo - definitely a centre back Patrick Gerrbrand - thought he was a centre back Alan Maybury - definitely a right back Andy Impey - right wing back Steve Guppy - left winger/wing back (so arguably you can have him) Damien Dalaney - sure he was a centre back Jacob Laursen -another one I'm sure played centre back Phil Ghilcrist - another centre back Pontus Kámark - more a right back/defensive midfielder Julian Watts -centre back mostly Simon Grayson -right back Gary Coatsworth - right back Lloyd Dyer - left winger I'm not saying some of these won't have filled in at left back every now and then, but I wouldn't call them left backs.
Kitchandro Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Definitely Tony Spearing, but also when we lost to Leeds 3-0 in the League Cup about 1990, on YouTube we were playing a black lad at number 3 who looked abysmal?? Not sure who it was, may have been Des Linton?? Alan Paris? http://www.foxeshistory.co.uk/matchdetails.php?mid=1061
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Was thinking Alan Paris but I thought he had left by then?? Also was so much better than this buffoon at left back
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Doh just seen the link... was Paris then blimey
dpjfox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Geoff Scott was ok as was Norman Leet Colin Gibson and Mike Whitlow, but back in the good old days we had Denis Rofe and the best of all DAVID NISH
Fatty Arbuckle Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 I was going to post something similar a few days and suggest that Nigel hasn't had much luck with left backs in his time with us; McGivern, Kennedy and now Bakayogo. But then I remembered Berner and Powell, who I'm sure most would agree turned out to be really good signings. Almost a 50/50 record so I don't think we've done too bad. Also on the subject of left backs, I'd like to take back everything I thought and said in the summer about Konchesky. Really thought he was past it, and that we had no hope with him as a starter. I'm very glad that I was totally wrong on that one!
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Luke O'Neill was Danny Dyer in the 2 odd first team appearances. Looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Probably given his debut too early tbh. Is he at Burnley now?
Ric Flair Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Chris Makin, forgot how crap he was for us and John Curtis on the other side the season before. Frightening.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 14 January 2014 Posted 14 January 2014 Haven't seen enough of zoom to be honest You can't judge a player on one bad performance
