Matty James

I started liking him, ever since the start of last season, when we played Peterborough in the first home game of the season.

And I know you like trawling back in time, so why don't you do it on this occasion, before making out, I was calling him shit, something which I have never ever done.

When did I say you said he was shit. You said we didn't need him.

They are all inconsistent?

nope dd is inconsistent.

You know exactly what you are getting from king and james.

but with james in the side you have a bit of battle and that leaves the other 2 whoever plays free to get forward more.

but yet again I bow down to your far superior football opinion.

Yep and so did some others.

There's nothing wrong with saying that, as you know I've said much worse.

But I think I liked Matty James before you though...;)

Yes I can remember him giving the ball away in the first half along with numerous others - perhaps the conditions may have had something to do with this. For me, if James got injured, this may have a serious impact on our promotion push. I really think he is the integral part to our success.

He gave the ball away shit loads first 15/20 of the second also. As I said, I felt he looked as though he was playing like it was still soaked when it was much better, and that meant he didn't release the ball and got caught out

Agree about him, think he's a very good player and we aren't the same without him.

If you say so.

You think King isn't inconsistent?

may not have the bite in a tackle, some who expect him to be scholes may say he goes missing.

but anyone who actually watches what he does in a game will see what he offers.

as for inconsistent, what if given 30 starts a season he inconsistently scores double figures.

Oh I see. On ft goals don't count.

And that's not happened since 10/11 for a reason.

yet like heskey all the gaffers rate him. Didnt see sven sousa or pearson look to get rid.

We have a squad and I'd be happy to see king come in.

all i said was both him and dd look better playing alongside james.

when dd went off boil last year king and james managed to turn in a performance or 2.

this year it's james and dd.

spot the constant.

He's probably the least inconsistent player in our team. Genuinely can't remember him having a very poor game, plenty of average ones though.

DD and James deserve to be in the team atm and we're lucky to have 3 midfielders of their calibre. Let's enjoy it.

I've not said King is crap, I have said all three are inconsistent at times. You are acting as though DD and James played together all year and we only do well with him in the team. Look at all games previous to the last 8 and the majority were King and DD. So this year the constant is DD not James.

I've always rated James, but he hadn't kicked on from some great performances last year as much as I had hoped (until recently), down to injury and others getting in ahead of him due to good form.

As I said before lol (and have done for ages) the midfield needed more steel. However adept a footballer King is, the James/Drinkwater combination has given us more control in that central area. You can't play nice football if you don't have the ball. James wins it back. He rarely loses out on 50:50's, he has a great engine on him and he instinctively knows where his partner is.

IMO dropping King for James has possibly been Pearson's best bit of tactical management. Its worked. I always cried out for a defensive midfielder, so that King could stay in the team but we would remain strong in the middle. Well, hats off to Pearson. Playing Drinky and James together means we don't need the DM.

And as if to prove your point further, King and James were sensational in the last 5-10 games of last season, including the play-offs.

I'm pretty sure at least one of Drinkwater and James will get a rest on Tuesday, partly to keep King and/or Hammond happy, but partly because 3 games in a week is tough going, especially after playing on a swamp on Saturday.

not sure I agree with inconsistent. I think dd has shown he does have purple patches. That or maybe he has learnt a lot from last season as he has improved no end.

king is not inconsistent he just isn't a player to take a game by the scruff of the neck but you will get goals and workrate if he is given a role in the team that suits him. Currently having him in the team wouldnt work as well as the 2 we have in the middle allow the front 4 to do more damage.

but I still think king is a good squad player.

as for james yes he may actually be the most inconsistent if thats how you want to word it however because he likes to battle, put a foot in I think this is what gives us a platform to play the attacking football we are.

I know we had a run of games in sept and oct with dd and king in the side. But i think we look better now with james sitting a bit and allowing dd to go forward not sideways and if king comes in he can play further up knowing james will sit.

we look less comfortable with king and dd because they both want to operate a bit further forward in the same space. Meaning 1 or both have to adapt their game.

I supose its about opinions but for me james gives us a platform to play.

such as the way chelsea play with players protecting the centre halves leaving the 3 behind the front man free to play.

it's also how moyes should now play at utd. If he let carrick and fellani sit infront of the back 4. Mata, rooney and janazi could play behind van persie.

all teams do it nowdays. Busquets at barca, lahm at munich nowdays. Arsenal look better with flamini.

I just think it helps us esp with delaet so good at bombing on we have cover.

I'm not trying to knock any of them, my preferred partners are James and DD, James exactly for the reasons you have mentioned. Just saying over the last two years we've had good and bad patches using any of the combo.

thats true. But this is our best patch in what 20 years. Can't be bad.

Technically our best player, no. Drinkwater, Knockaert, Nugent, King, Taylor-Fletcher and Phillips all have better technical ability. Having said that, I love Jamesy in the middle of the park. He originally wasn't the big nasty hard-man that people were crying out for. However, he does the dirty job in midfield as well as being very tidy on the ball, hope he can stay injury-free.

Cant really complain at any of them, bad passes are made, mistakes happen but they play as a well oiled machine at times and when they do they are just too good for the opposition.

Going to be difficult to nominate a player of the season at this rate.
