Forest v Leicester preview

Hello again guys and girls. You helped me with a preview of Forest v Leicester last season - I didn't ask this time as my request was clearly the reason you were lucky enough to beat us - it could only have been that, surely?

In case anyone's interested, here is my ramblings this time: http://forestboffin.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/preview-forest-v-leicester-city.html

Hope I've not got too much wrong, and have a safe journey if you're coming tomorrow - should be a good game.

I think you exaggerate the gaps left behind our fullbacks: Lloyd's always been good at getting back to help cover, even if he isn't the most gifted defender, and this season Knockaert's come on in leaps and bounds in that department - he may have had a reputation for staying forward when he was needed in defence last year, but this season his ability to drop back and provide relief for De Laet has been key at times.

Otherwise a good read.

It may be  an exaggerration, but really we are pretty solid in all areas so if you are looking for a weakness I think most people agree that Konch is a weak link in defence with some very suspect distribution recently, and RDL can be caught out positionally, only because he is going forwards. If they are looking for space to exploit, that is exactly where I would look. Yes Dyer and Knocky get back and do their defensive duty, but if we get caught out up field then there will be space to exploit.

Really good read.

It makes a pleasant change to read an opposition fan opinion on us that actually highlights Vardy as the main threat.

Bravo for the time and effort into making that.

Same old crap from someone who can't accept we're better than them

"the rub of the green"

"fortunate in a lot of the games"

"benefited from a lot of marginal refereeing decisions"

Captain Pancake Face is right; with it being biased towards Forest, I try to look for weaknesses for them to exploit - this is all I could find for Leicester, which is why I focussed on it. I'm not saying it's a fatal weak-point which will cause your season to come tumbling down - but it's the one little chink in your armour I could see. I looked at all the games you lost, this is the area you came undone IMO, albeit rarely. Not slating you, you're clearly the best side in the league.

I'm hoping we can catch you out when you attack, as from watching you I think you'll be quite positive for an away side - have I got this right?

I assume Big Wes is doing well? You're fortunate in that one - most under-rated defender in the League by fans.

lol put those quotes it in context please! Are you Ed Balls?

And I did say you were earning any luck, as all winning teams do.

Hope Nugent doesn't score another one off his ar$e the fluky bleeder...  :P

Not a bad read.

This part where you talk about us being lucky is a little wide of the mark though. Teams that are winning make their own 'luck' (which isn't actually luck at all), being positive, pressing opposition and creating chances will mean that balls drop the right way, and penalties etc will be given. We've had a lot of pens this season - can't think of one off the top of my head that particularly dubious though.

The point about space behind the full-backs is a valid one though, I think we will come looking for a win meaning we'll push on. Should make for a good game.

Good read, not sure how you failed to manage either Drinkwater or James though, especially Drinkwater. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, that Drinkwater has made the most passes out of any player in the division? He and James make us tick, and I would back them to get the better of Moussi and Reid in centre midfield.

I believe the stat may have even been most passes in the opposition's half in the league

Very good read. But...

The full-backs issue was more of a problem last season, I don't see the same problems at all this term.

DeLaet has really improved defensively, especially since he came back from his injury last month.

Konchesky is liable to give the ball away in bad positions (his back pass at Leeds a good example) but he rarely gets beaten round the back.  The example at Brighton is not a good one as the highlights on player/youtube are misleading - this goal came from a terrible clearance from Kasper.  At the game itself, it was Kasper getting stick from the City fans after that goal, not Konchesky.  And the goal against Sheff Wed was not due to being caught out of position in wide areas, it came because Was failed to clear a huge looping cross which he would have headed clear 9 times out of 10.

Good read that. Suprised you didn't mention how James and Drinkwater boss the midfield though. I agree that Konchesky is the weak link in our side, although he's still a fairly solid championship defender.

I hope and fully expect you to play a far more open game than you did at the KP. You did a good but ugly job that day and we couldn't get into the game. We did have our chances still.

Anticipating a good game and hopefully 3 more points on our road to promotion. I'd take a point

Very good read, and I think the analysis of the full backs at Brighton (the only live match I've seen this season) is spot on.

The only thing I would say (and this is the writer in me) is if you ever again use the word "betwixt" when you mean "between", I shall come round and throw a brick through your window.
