What's the earliest in a season a team has been guaranteed a play-off spot. an automatic spot and then the championship? I suppose I'm asking any stato's out there; what are the current records and can we break them? FFF - Not a good user name at the mo. Can I change it to Free Flowing Foxes

As for something to aim for, our team is capable of breaking a ton with the way they're playing at the minute, so I'd hope that's the aim. then if there's still games left, we go for Reading's record of 106.
RobHawk Posted 3 March 2014 Posted 3 March 2014 If we can win the next 6 games it puts us on 92 points on the 1st April and for me would be game set and match for the title - Although not mathematically sure, i can't say anyone else reaching that tally especially if we beat Burnley within that 6 games! Our 2 hardest games in there though, Burnley and Wigan so its a big ask, but certainly something to target!

Xen Posted 3 March 2014 Posted 3 March 2014 Reading were guaranteed promotion on 25/3/06 after 40 games and guaranteed Champions on 1/4 (41 games) In which case, to match that (in terms of games played), we need to gain 6 points on Derby in the next 7 games, or 4 points on QPR (assuming they win their game in hand, and that they dont catch our goal difference). Given Derbys run of games and QPR's form, that's not entirely out of the question. Guaranteeing Champions by 41 games means we need to gain 7 points on Burnley though. That would require us beating them at their ground, and picking up 4 points on them elsewhere. Again, a possibility, especially as we have a seemingly straightforward run. (I *may* be wrong, my brain's just been addled by a statistics lecture.. )

Over last few seasons tilte winners hav had 06/07 - 88 07/08 - 81 08/09 - 90 09/10 - 102 10/11 - 88 11/12 - 89 12/13 - 87 so high eighties normally gives u promotion at least so if we win our next 2 games against barnsley and blackpool ( the way there both playing i would expect nothing less tbh) then being on 80 points with 11 games to go is incredible. would prob only need 2 more wins for promotion and i reckon 4 more for the title. With so many games still to play even if we win 6 more games and lose the other 7 matches we would still prob gain promotion. When you put that into perspective that 7 more defeats and we can still get promoted really makes me smile God its good to be a leicester fan.

And they were guaranteed a play-off place after 37 games (4 March) when they had 89 points and Cardiff, in 7th, had 52. In fact, they were virtually guaranteed after 36 games (25 Feb) when they had 86 points; however Wolves (on 53 points in 7th) had a game in hand, but a massively worse goal difference - 10 against 53. I should get out more.
sylofox Posted 3 March 2014 Posted 3 March 2014 Surly the play off spot is more down to how weak 6th place is. As for most points lets go for 13 out of 13 wins. Stop the Young bashers and as every game goes by it looks more likely.
