Finnegan Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Anybody know Blackpool fairly well? Off for a Groupon weekend on the cheap. Haven't been since I was a kid, largely expecting a northern skeg that can't be arsed to take its crimbo lights down, fair? Looking to try and avoid the standard Yates / Spoons shit and hoping for some rock / alternative bars. Anything from Leicester's firebug to London's Intrepid Fox really. Ideas? Totally asking in the wrong place? Probably Probably.

Guest MattP Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Did a stag do last August. Not going to lie, it's an absolute shithole. Just make sure you go into Shenanigans for a pint, you'll never see anywhere else like this in Britain, everyone was dancing on the tables to Gary Glitter last year, passing poppers around the pub to randomers, floor was openly covered in sick with no one cleaning it up. Late night club I went to Soul Suite, cracking place.
jgtuk Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 As Mattp says, it is a hole. I had to attend a conference there last year, stayed two nights. I can honestly say I have rarely experienced such a dump as this - I will gladly pay to never visit again...
Finnegan Posted 7 March 2014 Author Posted 7 March 2014 Lovely. I'm under no illusions it'll be lovely, you get what you pay for.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I went there in about 1984 and had a lovely* time *OK
Lionator Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Comfortably the biggest shithole in the UK. It makes Mablethorpe look like Santa Monica
seasider Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I live nearby and hate it. The Fylde on the whole though is a lovely area and very picturesque. Makes Leicester look like a shithole! Depends on what type of character you are. If you are just up for going mental, then you'll love it. If you're a bit more cautious and observant, you'll hate it. Agree with the poster who mentioned Soul Suite, love that place. Oh and we have a shit football team too so wouldn't bother watching them.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 It certainly sounds like it's going to be a weekend to remember
Finnegan Posted 7 March 2014 Author Posted 7 March 2014 It certainly sounds like it's going to be a weekend to remember lol I know right? The things we suffer if there's a Groupon for it.
Soar Fox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Just be careful when chatting up women. I made that mistake in September, when it turned out it wasn't a woman.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Go to Lytham St Annes or whatever that place is where they have the golf. It's posh round there. Actual Blackpool is whatever you make of it really. By day it's just a British seaside town. Everyone does the 'best' fish and chips, every fun fair is expensive and if you walk 20 yards without seeing a 2p arcade you're in the wrong place. Not sure about evenings, I went a few years ago but I went cos it was free so I thought may as well go and see how drunk I can get, probably not your plan. I imagine there might be a few places that do decent food etc just not in the centre of Blackpool by the tower, that tower is like Mecca for fat, scummy old people. Don't go there at night. Have fun
Zingari Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Just be careful when chatting up women. I made that mistake in September, when it turned out it wasn't a woman. that might say more about how much you'd had to drink
Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 lol I know right? The things we suffer if there's a Groupon for it. You'll have far more fun recounting stories of sick in someone's trainer than that time you went somewhere and went to that bar that was surprisingly pleasant and then had a nice meal and nothing happened
Soar Fox Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 that might say more about how much you'd had to drink I'd had a lot to be fair and I did just think she/he was wearing high heels. But no it really was a bloke, luckily my friends told me before I tried to it on.

Had a banging night there. http://www.thetache.co.uk/ Looks about as good as I'm going to get! Saw it mentioned when I Googled places as well, was it tolerable? We talking fairly SHEDesque?
Voll Blau Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 To be honest Blackpool is about the only place in the world where Walkabout qualifies as a decent bar. It burned down a few months ago and has now been done up, looks really nice. Flares is good for a laugh, as is Nellie Deans karaoke bar. Avoid Sanuk like the plague. The German Bierkeller near Central Pier is also decent if you're going in the season. In the winter there's generally fvck all going on. I live nearby and hate it. The Fylde on the whole though is a lovely area and very picturesque. Makes Leicester look like a shithole! Depends on what type of character you are. notnow john Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 So,let me get this right ,you despise homophobic, knuckle dragging Sun readers but but you holiday in Blackpool??
RonnieTodger Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Went there for a weekend with mates in 2012. Loved it, but like the others say it's not the nicest place. Didn't see any trouble, just people having a laugh. There's one street that's paved with litter at the end of the night.

Webbo Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I went for a dirty weekend with my girlfriend there 20 odd years ago and came back engaged. Be careful Finners, be very careful.
