theessexfox Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Whatever happens, Rogers has done a superb job this season, from 7th last season.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Only a Liverpool fan could even try to claim he's the best player to never win a league! ! If it's true he asked for a transfer just to force more money then it's dreadful, that's football though now, Rooney employed the same tactics and it's managed to earn him 1.2 million a month. On the question pretty much in line with others, what a horrid choice, City's arab money, Chelsea dire football or Liverpool's unbearable fans? Ugh. Yeah I've got to say it's not the greatest of choices, I'd probably say Liverpool deserve it on the pitch and it would be nice to see Steven Gerrard win the Premeir League, although no player "deserves" to win the Premier League unless they've played over 10 games in a side that finishes 1st in the table after 38 games. I just can't stand some of their fans , plus I'm trying to take pleasure in the demise of Manchester United and the sobbing of all the plastic fans associated with them, if they're just going to be replaced by all the Liverpool fans that seem to have come out of hibernation in the last two months it's all sort of pointless, it's like Liverpool are Manchester United mark II walking around town atm.
Bert Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 This states to me that he clearly wanted to leave regardless of how long ago it was. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/4653041.stm Steven Gerrard has told Liverpool he wants to leave Anfield after turning down a new £100,000-a-week contract. The 25-year-old captain made his move after Liverpool rejected a £32m bid from Premiership champions Chelsea. "Steven has told us he will not accept our offer of an improved and extended contract because he wants to leave," a Liverpool club statement read. Gerrard also issued a statement which said: "This has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make." He added: "I fully intended to sign a new contract after the Champions League final, but the events of the past five to six weeks have changed all "I have too much respect for the club and people at it to get involved in a slagging match." Reports from Anfield suggest the club will not allow Gerrard to leave until he has submitted a formal transfer request. Gerrard delivered the news to Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry via his agent, Struan Marshall. And Parry reflected: "The club has to be bigger than any individual. It's the ups and downs of football. "Now we have to move on. We have done our best, but he has made it clear he wants to go and I think it looks pretty final." The Anfield chief was left disappointed after Gerrard's decision to leave, just a year after persuading the midfielder that the club could match his ambitions. "We sat down with him last summer and we understood his frustrations - it was all to do with perceived lack of success. "We said 'stick with it and see what we achieve', and we thought we achieved quite a lot. What better sign is there that the club is going in the right direction (than winning the Champions League)? "He wanted success, and presumably felt he would get success elsewhere - it is our job to prove him wrong. "I did say to him 'think of Istanbul, think of the fans'." Gerrard has two years left on his current contract which is worth a reported £60,000 per week. He was in talks with the club to extend that deal by a further two years until Monday when his agent announced that negotiations were ending and were "unlikely to be re-opened". That apparently came because Gerrard felt his boyhood club had not placed enough of a priority on the talks. Later on Monday Gerrard had a meeting with chief executive Parry and chairman David Moores, who made a last-ditch offer of £100,000-per-week to keep their captain at Anfield. They were told he would go away and sleep on the deal - but he told Parry on Tuesday he wanted to leave. By then Chelsea had already made their offer - which is now set to become only the start of a bidding war between the London club and Spanish giants Real Madrid. Madrid confirmed their interest on Tuesday but said he would have to put in an official transfer request before they got involved. Gerrard's confirmation that he did indeed want out would be sure to bring the Bernabeu club to the negotiating table. The previous British record buy was set at £29.1m when Manchester United bought Rio Ferdinand from Leeds in 2002. Parry added: "I don't imagine it is just going to be one club bidding for Gerrard. "It is only one day, although one day makes a big difference in negotiations, as we have seen."

I was going to mention the exact same thing. Man U and Liverpool fans are actually so alike and they both can't see it themselves.
Grandad. Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 I was going to mention the exact same thing. Man U and Liverpool fans are actually so alike and they both can't see it themselves. Trust me, I am nothing like a Man United fan, well I hope not anyway.
Guest MattP Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 Trust me, I am nothing like a Man United fan, well I hope not anyway. Not a personal attack on anyone. Just the way a lot seem to carry themselves in pubs around town etc It's probably more a Sky Sports generation thing though rather than those fans who gave been going for years. An Asian in my local now has started supporting Liverpool after being a self confessed "don't like football that much but like Man U". It's so ridiculous to watch I can't describe it.

Yeah but they're the ones you have to take with a pinch of salt, I care not for them and I won't celebrate or even entertain them with a conversation about Liverpool because even though they apparently support and love the same club as me I know they don't and I distance myself from them. Got down my boozer last night about 8pm, all the lads in there who know I am a Liverpool fan and many of you will know them from L1 and City home and away games cheered me when I came in and we both started singing 'Champeones' prematurely I know from my part but it was ****ing brilliant.
lgfualol Posted 14 April 2014 Posted 14 April 2014 I want Liverpool to win, they were always my "second team" when I was a lot younger. Would be nice to see someone new win it for a change. As long as Chelsea dont win, I ****ing hate chelsea.
C-man Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 And I'm sure around the time, people would have said that about them players. Gerrard does deserve to win the Premier League, simple as that. Not liking Stoke and Forest are a given for a Leicester fan, Liverpool? Don't see it. Especially in a modern day football, when the last time we played Leicester was over 10 years ago. Or is it down to the fans, Hillsborough, Heysel and anything else you want to chuck at Liverpool FC? Like I said it is bitter and twisted, Liverpool winning the League has no effect on your life or Leicester CIty, why not be happy for a club who could potentially win the League with a squad of British/English players, who haven't spent all the money on the League and a club who weren't expected to be in this position at the start of the season. At the end of the day, I couldn't really care less if people wants us to win the League, not arsed one bit. Sorry for the delayed reply, I was too busy being bitter and twisted singing YNWA in Dortmund Clearly Hillsborough has nothing to do with it and I don't know the ins and outs of Heysel enough to comment too much - although I don't think there's one Juventus fan who wouldn't say Liverpool was despicable football club. Like you say there's no real reason for a Leicester fan to dislike Liverpool but I have my reasons - going back 16/17 years - not to be enamoured by them. Besides, my 'better' half is a Chelsea fan too so it kind of does 'affect my life'...
Grandad. Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Well we're not on about Liverpool and Juventus, unless you're now a Juventus fan? Dortmund have been fantastic with their support of Hillsborough over the years, fantastic club. Well if you're not given your reasons to why you despise my despicable club, don't come and say you're not bitter and twisted, that's how it looks unfortunately. Shame about your Mrs as well, must kill a proper football fan like yourself to have a Mrs who's club couldn't be anymore plastic and cringe if they tried.
Stadt Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 So his missis is plastic and cringe because she supports a relatively successful club? She could be from London (you don't know her), not all fans of big clubs are plastic, you should know uncle grandad Albert.

I meant the club in general mate. It goes back to a Rafa Benitez comment about Chelsea fans. Don't worry I'm not slating his Mrs.

bovril Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Everybody has personal and stupid reasons for disliking certain football clubs. I grew up with some twattish Liverpool fans who never went to games but were constantly giving me stick for supporting Leicester so I just grew to dislike them somewhat. Similarly I can never cheer for Chelsea after witnessing a mockney chav type spitting over the edge of the Carling stand on to a family below in 98. As fans of a more unfashionable club we have other reasons to dislike the top teams. We haven't played City much over the last 20 years and I'm too old to have grown up with their new breed of 'glory hunting' supporters so I suppose that's why I tolerate them more. Call it bitter and twisted if you want and it's completely illogical, but it's part of the tribal nature of football. I could never be really happy for a team's success other than Leicester, but don't take it personally....

As it happens since the Abramovich era she's stopped going regularly because tickets are so a) hard to come by and b) expensive. Before then they had a bit of soul even if they were still cheating cvnts.

Ask any Liverpool supporter actually from Liverpool and not an out of towner and they will tell you they prefer Leicester over Forest and Derby.

Scousenotenglish Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 I didn't say I felt that way about Liverpool fans, did I.... You said you grew up disliking us because of a few Liverpool fans you knew, hardly the whole fanbase. I don't care anyway nobody really likes us all over Europe, at the end of the day I'm glad to see City promoted rather than Forest.

If I had been a 'pool fan growing up surrounded by twattish Leicester fans then obviously the opposite would be true. Every big club has their share of glory hunters from out of town, I grew up in a footballing backwater so I was surrounded by them. They're still my mates and I love to rub it in when Liverpool lose. Similarly if you win the league I'll avoid my email and mobile phone for a few weeks! But like I said, it's part of the bullshit of football, don't take it personally.
