I've just moved from Sky to BT Broadband and it's not been the best experience but this option has just popped up on my list of available connections. If I use it does it count towards my monthly usage? If other people are using me as a hotspot does that count as my usage? Frankly is it safe and free, both cost and usage wise? I'm on my home PC.

I'm considering moving to them but not sure, they are more expensive than I am paying at the moment, although going to BT Broadband would probably make the phone abit cheaper? Also if I have BT Broadband and you've got Sky you can get BT Sport for free can you not? That's what I understood anyway but someone told me different the other day, I have forgot what they told me now but it was something like you do get BT Sport free but can only watch on the internet not on your TV? I've also looked at Virgin but I think for what i'd want they might be even more expensive than BT. Is there alot of difference between Virgin, Sky and BT? Think Sky are probably about the cheapest, Virgin most expensive (For what I want) and BT probably being in the middle?

Depends entirely upon where you live, how close to the exchange you are etc. For me the BT exchange is less than a mile away and Internet speed is ridiculously good. Plus BT Sport is free on Sky

I've just moved from Virgin to bt , which is also fibre optic now, on account of you get the bt sports package free. I was a bit sceptical at first because of their speed claims and because I had been used to the speed of Virgin.however I can honestly say its a lot faster than virgin eg last night I downloaded every album of Jimmi Hendrix in about 2 minutes, about 1.5 gb, which before would have taken about 10 to 15 minutes.

Stadt Posted 20 April 2014 Posted 20 April 2014 I have Virgin, occasionally drops out for 10 minutes but it's fairly infrequent but otherwise it's fast - we have Virgin TV as well and BT sport is free.
Legend_in_blue Posted 20 April 2014 Posted 20 April 2014 Waiting for installation of bt infinity. Exchange finally upgraded by openreach after two years of waiting and the green cabinet is ready. Should be able to get 60mbps according to the estimates. We'll see. bt sport is available free via the app, not sure about through sky though.
MrSpaM Posted 20 April 2014 Posted 20 April 2014 Had bt infinity for 6 months now and no complaints whatsoever. I went for the 80mb package with unlimited downloads. Must say ive never used the bt fon thing though, I think the downloads on it count towards your monthly limit, but considering the difference between having a download cap or not is about £2 a month, its worth just going for the unlimited package because the charges you get for going over it are way more than that £2. My monthly downloads are about 120GB on average.

You have to log on to bt fon with a unique username and password, so any data usage on it is added onto your monthly download quota. If somebody uses your connection the data they use is taken off their allowance, not yours. Im pretty certain thats how it works. I would invest in a better router as well, the homehub bt give you has a terrible range.

Is there anyway you can fool it to thinking your not at home if you're using a phone/tablet? I've got infinity are you saying that router is crap?

You get the infinity modem which plugs into the phone line, then a home hub router to plug into the infinity modem. I replaced the home hub with a netgear router because the home hub kept dropping out of range once id taken my laptop upstairs.
