Kitchandro Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 I knew this was coming. If Newcastle want him he'll go I'm sure of that. Despite their bad run I'm not sure their league position warrants a sacking for Pardew.
ealingfox Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 I know its unfashionable, but I actually think Pardew's done a decent job. Maybe I've simply been hoodwinked by his rough mockney charm, but in a real pressure-cooker atmosphere as it is up there, he's proved capable of having them consistently top 10, he's been astute with his business and made them a fairly likeable team. Clearly the loss of Cabaye in January has hit them very hard, and replacing him has to be their top priority this summer. As touched on earlier though, Pardew's business has been commendable. The last time they got a windfall through a player sale (Carroll), he went out and bought a whole new team, including Cabaye for under £5 million, and they finished 5th. Last season they struggled, but they did get to the Europa Quarter-Finals and performed admirably throughout the tournament. It is very difficult to juggle Europa and domestic if you're not a top 5 side with a top 5 squad, look at Swansea, they've had a poor season in the PL. If I was a Newcastle fan I'd have absolutely no problems with giving Pardew another crack of the whip next season, provided the Cabaye money is invested.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Newcastle is a possibility and it would be a miracle if pardew keeps his job, i don't think pearson will go though, seems kinda pointless to get a club promoted then **** off.
deepbluedevil Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 I don't know why, but I am more worried about Southampton. Rumours that Pochettino will leave for spurs, and Nige is well thought of down there...
sylofox Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Pardew's job is now safe. He was warned at xmas if he did not pull his finger out and learn to headbutt like NP he would be gone in may.
sylofox Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Anyway not sure Nige would go up there. Rumour has it the dogs up there fight back. And drink smoke and shagg down alley ways lol
surrifox Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 I don't know why, but I am more worried about Southampton. Rumours that Pochettino will leave for spurs, and Nige is well thought of down there... didn't he keep them up (when we went down) and they repaid him with the sack. cant think they're well thought of by him
Dan Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 I personally think Pearson would be an idiot to work under Ashley or Lerner and he isn't an idiot. Not worried.
5waller5 Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 If Pardew is sacked for finishing 10th and losing just 6 games on the bounce then NP wouldn't want that .... look at the run the owners stuck by him through last season .... He'll be repaying them for that, whilst also looking at how quickly he'd get sacked for similar run on the Tyne.
Dan Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 It isn't just losing 6 on the bounce though. Look at their record in 2014. If they'd produced that all season they'd be down by now.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 I don't think he would leave a job and a squad he's built at this time. I feel sure he wants a crack at it with this group that he's moulded into the team we love. If he was to go elsewhere he'd have to build again and who knows what the starting point would be. He's sure to be offered a good contract with us so I think we should relax and enjoy the summer.
5waller5 Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 It isn't just losing 6 on the bounce though. Look at their record in 2014. If they'd produced that all season they'd be down by now. Similar to our run last season in that respect .... I just think he'll look at owners sacking their manager for a similar run to the one that he was stuck by throughout and would make the sensible decision.
Happy Fox Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 He would only leave for a club with more clout and ambition and lets be honest our owners have higher ambitions than the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
5waller5 Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Just on the Pardew / Newcastle subject .... did anyone watch yesterday?? Really awful side lacking on desire .... Pardew doesn't seem to give a toss either. I was in a taxi in Newcastle on Saturday and asked the driver what he thought - he reckoned that Pardew owes Mike Ashley £2m in gambling debts that he paid off for him when he signed - that's why he has an 8 year contract and still has a job.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Pardew is way out of his depth, how he has lasted that long is shocking
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Bottom line is he came back to "unfinished business" do you think the job is finished, personally I don't so I don't see him going anywhere atm
Fox Ulike Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Can’t see Villa or Newcastle going for Pearson. There’s a long-standing prejudice against appointing British managers in the Premier League. The groundsman at Valencia has got a better chance of being Newcastle’s next manager than Pearson. They would see him as a risky appointment, due to his lack of top flight experience. First time he loses three in a row, all the fans start mumbling about his ‘lack of experienceâ€. And from then on, it’s a losing battle. Look at Tim Sherwood. The guy’s got no chance. Spurs are just itching to replace him already. I think Pearson is savvy enough to realise this. Once he’s proved himself capable of managing in the Prem with us, things may change.
cuddly ken Posted 29 April 2014 Posted 29 April 2014 Bottom line is he came back to "unfinished business" do you think the job is finished, personally I don't so I don't see him going anywhere atm Not strictly true, he came back as the money was too good to turn down. Credit to him for turning it around despite his chances of getting the sack given a run of 3-4 defeats. Bottom line in football is money talks, so I wouldn't rule out any manager or player jumping ship for another club. There's no way he would turn down Villa or Newcastle if an offer came. Just a thought, would everyone want him to stay if we are bottom 3 come Christmas? I doubt it. That's football, folks!
