Right, when I sorted my laptop out a few months ago I managed to get two (of the same) copies of Windows Vista onto my hard drive. By being there and taking a lot of space up on my hard drive I want one of them gone.

How do I do it? Cheers.

Format your hard drive and reload the laptop. Remember to back up the files you want to keep though :)

Alternatively there will be a folder in your C drive called WINDOWS.OLD with the first installation. Not the files you use now etc. cos it has .old after it.

Ok, apparently my task manager has been disabled by the administrator. There's only one account on my computer and that's mine - the account administrator. How do I sort this? I recently had a trojan and it had to delete some stuff to get it sorted, that might've fooked things up.

Don't worry about this now guys, my laptop is officially dead. This gives me an excuse to buy one of the new Macbooks which are supposedly coming out this month. Until then I am borrowing my sisters nice new laptop. Lovely stuff.

Removing software.

I've loaded some software drivers onto my pc and have now found out they're XP drivers not Vista. I've been instructed by the supplier to uninstall the software and reload it with some vista drivers that they are proving a link to.

I've tried uninstalling using the MS Vista facility but all I get is an error

error reading setup initialisation file

Is there any other reliable way of removing it - I can only think of deleting the file in the Program directory.

I think I've resolved this by using Recover how ever the software I'm trying to use is for a a video capture utility which I still can't get to work.

The intention is to use it to convert VHS tapes to DVD and to capture TV programmes like the football. Anyone familiar with this process?

So I've been away for a few months & left my computer to collect dust I've came back & the internet is barely working about 50% of the links on web pages don't work I can't load videos!!! I've had various messages like (Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player) & the modern diagnostic tool says . . .

(Dial Tone Test Failed.

The Modem Diagnostic Tool was unable to detect a dial tone. Potential causes include the following:

1) Modem/Phone cables may not be connected properly,

2) Phone Line is in use,

3) Country / Region Settings may be incorrect, or

4) Modem Hardware has problem.

Output Code: 05)

I'm not the most computer literate fellow so that doesn't mean much to me, Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please! :)

Right then people this idiot requires urgent assistence:

Basically I'm applying for a job online and filling in the application form. Now as well as filling this in, I also have to attach a copy of my CV, in Microsoft Word format. I've done that, however it's come up with an error message saying

Your CV must be a Microsoft Word document, it must have a doc file extension
.

Sorry to sound thick  , but wtf is a "doc file extension", and how do I change to format of the document to incorporate this?

Cheers!

Save as >>> (Insert file name of your choice) >>> then add .doc

So for example: English Essay.doc

Yeah, tried that and it still says the same. Should I try saving it in a different format instead, such as a template as opposed to the default file format  ?

I really don't know why it wont let you attach it to be honest. If you have Office 2007, try saving it as a Word 2003 file and then attach it?

Yes, yes now we're talking! Nice one mate :worship::cheers: .

Doesnt Office 2007 save it as Docx instead of Doc, bloody Americans again trying to mess everything up.

It does, yet when saved in the 2003 format, it worked  . Ah well, not complaining.

If you're using Office 2007 just save it in compatibility mode (saves the file so it can be read in either Office 2003 or 2007).

My laptop is an insomniac!

Well, not quite.

When my laptop came, all nice and new last year at Christmas, shut the lid down, computer sleeps like a baby. However, after I changed what the laptop does when the lid is shut down, then turned it back onto sleep afterwards, it stopped working - I shut the lid down, but all that happened was the screen went off. I had to re-install Vista anyway, and that fixed the problem.

However, I've done the same thing again, and got the same problem.

Any help?

Update: It will sleep when there's no power plugged in, but the settings are the same for both on mains and on battery <_<

I've just installed something onto my computer, but everytime I try to load it up it says it requires at least 768 MB of free swap file space.

What the hell is this?
