Mark_w Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 That sounds absolutely woeful. They really will put any old shit on the TV won't they.
ousefox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Channel 4 is literally the TV version of a shitty tabloid. Some decent comedy on sometimes mind.

Channel 4 puts out some brilliant TV (Utopia, Run, Misfits, they brought The Returned from France, etc) but yeah when they make shÃt, it's exactly what you said.

Guest MattP Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 "4 Britons from different ethnic backgrounds" This show could be well worth watching if they shove Dr the Singh, Me, Father Ted and Rincewind on.
Steven Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 "4 Britons from different ethnic backgrounds" This show could be well worth watching if they shove Dr the Singh, Me, Fathed Ted and Rincewind on. Does only three out of four still make it worth watching?
sphericalfox Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Leicester is going to get lots for limelight, good or bad whilst we are in the Premiership, and various celebrities seemingly are getting attention keeping the cities name in the media. I expect this will be worse than its predecessor.

sphericalfox Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Pretty sure TV channels don't commission series based on which division a certain town's football team plays in... It didn't say it did, if you read back. I remember when Swansea made it to the Prem and the media (in general) had a waft of South Wales documentaries and news items galore. Prior to that not much if any attention. Same when Cardiff went up. I'm simply saying that it's no coincidence that it's Leicester. There are plenty of places they could have chosen in Britain, and whilst has areas that are prominently Asian, they could have easily gone to Birmingham, Manchester, Derby, or London for that matter.

Fair enough. It's a shame really, I was looking forward to a four part documentary on Hereford which had been due to be screen later this month. No point showing it now really is there?

MattGamble92 Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Why not just call it Leicester is full of Foreigners and be done with it?Makes me laugh how the media purposely label our city like this to give everyone the perception our city is like this when in actual fact its a pretty accurate representation of every town centre in England these days. Then idiots sitting in Nottingham and Leeds will watch and come with knuckle draggers singing town full of pakis next time we play them.

separator Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Terrible channel. Hate to think the mess that C4 will make of their coverage of the Richard III re-interment next year. Probably get fireworks & cheerleaders outside the cathedral, with White Dee doing the service.

Probably get fireworks & cheerleaders outside the cathedral, with White Dee doing the service. The only way we'll see 'white Dee' on that is if the camera flashes past the job centre queue on the way to the car park.... The more I think about this the more I think the people of Leicester should actually take some offence over it, this program was made and Bradford selected due to the dreadful race relations that existed up there that had culminated in rioting that a city still hadn't recovered from. People who didn't even want to talk to people of a different religion or colour and they made attempts for people from different communities to engage. I know we aren't perfect and there is a general east/west divide over the racial makeup of the City but in reality we haven't seen any large scale problems and their is certainly not anywhere the hatred and resentment here that exists in a lot of the Northern towns. Completely unneccessary from Channel 4, I can guarantee they won't paint this in a positive light, it's not what they do.

When did Bradford become a premiership team? I'm fairly sure the football on my doorstep has been dire for a few years now.
sphericalfox Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 When did Bradford become a premiership team? I'm fairly sure the football on my doorstep has been dire for a few years now. I didn't say the first one was commissioned due to the status of the local football club did I? What I did say was that you find a lot more media items related to Leicester in the future whilst on trend, this being one of them.

What I did say was that you find a lot more media items related to Leicester in the future whilst on trend, this being one of them. You were saying Leicester was in the spotlight because we've gone up to the prem. If that's the case, then why was Bradford in the spotlight for the first one? Basically, the status of the football club means nothing to how the news looks at the city, and to suggest otherwise is a bit crazy.
Merging Cultures Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Wait, is Leicester not British then?? Crap, I should give my passport back.
