Finnegan Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 'Brushed him'. I'd like someone to 'brush' you like that in your face and see how you react. And how would you even know how much sport I play ? Such a weak retort. Neymar's looked at him, run up to him with no eyes on the ball and it was a red clear as day. I hit and get hit harder than that playing fives with work for **** sakes, it was soft as shit and Modric overreacted for the ref. Six of one, half dozen of tother. Absolute non incident, yellow at best. Stop being a wimp.
Bert Posted 13 June 2014 Author Posted 13 June 2014 Easily, he didn't even elbow him he brushed him with his forearm. As it's already been said if you think that's a straight red you need to play more sport. Again, it is not that ref's fault that every single slight touch on a goalkeeper is given as a free kick, 99% of refs would of given a foul on Cesar for that. He absolutely elbowed him in the chops. Looked to see where he was as well. Should've been red no doubt. I hit and get hit harder than that playing fives with work for **** sakes, it was soft as shit and Modric overreacted for the ref. Finnegan Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 Exactly. Absolute juggernaut me. If I can take a stray arm from an 11st slip without rolling around like I've been shot then so can Luka Modric.

Soft as shit would be the minimal contact Fred received to go down in the penalty area, not an arm to the face. How is it me being a wimp .
AKCJ Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 How the hell is it racist what ttfn has said?! Jesus Christ. Read again (I hope) he didn't think it was racist. I think he was talking about what Barton said which is slightly more open to interpretation. Exactly. I don't care about what any of you think. My point is that Joey Barton is out of order for saying that he wasn't good enough because of where he is from. That is most definitely racist and I think that he was quick to realise that as the tweet was quickly deleted. Now can we focus on the ****ing football?
AKCJ Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 Exactly. Absolute juggernaut me. If I can take a stray arm from an 11st slip without rolling around like I've been shot then so can Luka Modric. Nothing to do with the reaction. The rules are dangerous of foul play. What Neymar did was dangerous with intent. He looked at Modric, caught him round the chops and should have walked. It's nothing to do with whether or not the opposition player is hurt or not.
Finnegan Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 He looked to see where the opponent was and put his arm up to shield his position / the ball. Did you really watch that and think "wow, that was really dangerous, he was trying to smash his face!"

Did you really watch that and think "wow, that was really dangerous, he was trying to smash his face!" It's dangerous to put your elbow up into the face of another footballer, of course it is. It's got nothing to do with "being 'ard", there isn't a rule where you can elbow someone for your own protection. Neymar was in the wrong and he should have walked.

But when he puts his arm up he's not that close to Modric, Modric goes careering into him and even stoops his head at the last minute. You put your arms up when trying to shield the ball, everyone does it. It's clumsy and it's a yellow but it's never a red. Your basically saying footballers can't raise their arms to gain leverage or shield the ball.

Manwell Pablo Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 Also for those of you questioning his pedigree this is the ref's 3rd World Cup game, one of which was a quarter final. He's performances were a high enough standard for him to be appointed 4th official to Howard Webb at the World Cup Final, I.e, reserve ref. Two of the better ref's behind those two at 2010 reffing semi final and 3/4 play offs were from Guatamala and Uzbekistan. More than qualified for the job he's just made a shocking decision which any ref can do.
BoneDog Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 Sod all this racism and referee bickering, I'm more upset about my reply to some fella last night being deleted. I'd waited 3 years for the perfect opportunity to post that reply and some trigger happy mod has flipping deleted it! Where's the justice?
Feed The Yak!! Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 Has no one mentioned the blatant foul on Rakitic by Ramires in the build up to Oscar's goal? That plus the penalty are horrific decisions. A case can be made for Neymar's elbow and Croatia's disallowed goal but those two decisions have transformed a draw into a win.

I know he bundled him over a bit but he was coming from behind and his momentum caused it but if you watch the replays he wins the ball cleanly first. Clearly the referee thought so as well. Is it against the laws? I don't know but I think it would have been soft. People seem to be moaning about so many nothing challenges. I'm not usually one to comment on it but it is worrying the amount of people who seem to think free kicks should be given for everything.
foxfanazer Posted 13 June 2014 Posted 13 June 2014 Think the Neymar elbow could've easily been a red, definite intent but maybe not a lot of contact. The Paulinho one a few minutes before was worse imo. Feel sorry for Croatia as it was never in a million years a penalty. Think they could qualify still

Tbf I've only seen it from one angle but it looked a clear foul. However if we're on the subject of giving free kicks for everything, surely Neymar's jump-into-people-and-fall-over tactic falls under that category? There was a free kick given for that on the edge of Croatia's box. It just seems weird that one minute the ref is letting the game flow freely and doesn't want to affect it that much (only a yellow for Neymar's elbow, not giving that foul etc) then the next minute everything is played by the rule book (he touched the keeper which is technically not allowed but looked a fair challenge, free kicks and penalties for the slightest touch in the case of Neymar and Fred). This inconsistency conveniently seemed to favour Brazil all game.
