Brazil v Croatia Match Thread

Yeah because all games in Europe are of the same size.

He'll have reffed in these stadiums http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._League_Division_1#Division_1_Stadiums_.282014.29 and will have reffed at other FIFA tournaments. Besides, he has his badges and is fully qualified to be a World Cup referee.

No need to be a sarcastic. To suggest that he isn't good enough because of his nationality is racism.

No, until Japanese referees are refereeing in the champions league, it's common sense.

I doubt he's ever reffed a or been involved in anything as high profile as brazil in Brazil to open a World Cup. He should've sent Neymar off, it was never a penalty and the disallowed Croatia goal was debatable. Numerous other dodgy fouls/not fouls went Brazils way too. Ridiculous.

How many people have refereed in games that big? You're looking at about 3 or 4 who still referee.

I'm not saying that his performance was good enough. But blaming it on his nationality is fvcking moronic and that's putting it mildly.

That "Braziiiil, Braziiil" thing before adverts is the worst thing ever. Embarrassing.

Just sing WASYLLLLL WASSSYLLL instead

A sad start to the tournament, shows all that bad in the game - teams work hard to get to the final stages and then a cheating referee spoils a nations hopes. I don't have any affection for Croatia but they didn't deserve what happened tonight.

After 50+ years watching the game, I am obviously still naive, but the WC is already spoiled for me, it seems more fixed than horse racing, was looking forward to it, but will give a miss to all games now, but for England obviously.

Brasil were basically rubbish, but can't see them losing with being given very dodgy penalties and having goals scored against them mysteriously disallowed.

Why is it?

He's clearly qualified, otherwise he wouldn't have been chosen.

I'm not surprised Barton has deleted that tweet. Even he knows that he's miles out of order.

ITV just get lower and lower. Did Chiles actually just say it was a comfortable win?

They just continually embarrass themselves. The theme tune is bad enough but then they get David Luiz and his cronies singing it lol One of the most cringey things ever. They could have had Sergio Mendez damnit.

Said before the game, people will bang on about Neymar, yet Oscar is the player to watch.

Oscar was different class tonight, and you tits on here say I know nothing about football.

Pish cya later

lol Mate, this is FIFA we're talking about.

He's 'qualified' because he's dishonest.

He's been chosen because he's one of the best referees in Asia. That does not automatically equate to being one of the best in the world and I strongly resent the implication that suggesting that a man with no experience of anywhere near such an occasion was not up to it is racist.

If he was English and refereed in a league with no players playing for a top nation I'd question his suitability for such an occasion.

I'm not going to go down the route of speculation.  He has got his badges and he is good enough.

Whether or not he performed truthfully is another matter. Still has nothing to do with his nationality.

there's being qualified and then there's being good enough. I'm a qualified referee. I'm not good enough to referee a game that big. I'd probably do better than him though.

On a positive note we can comfortably take brazil in the quarters if they play that poorly

Nationality doesn't make any difference but the league you referee in does.

But yeh, the quality of the referee is irrelevant if they take bribes. And let's not sidestep the issue, he's refereed dishonestly tonight, there's no two ways about it.

Well Game 1, and my expertise was pretty much spot on.

See if I can do the same with Mexico v Cameroon, that's if you make a match thread Bertram.

He's chosen because he's one of the best in Asia. Yes. A continent of over 4 billion and he was chosen.

Why do you think that's a bad thing? Or are you one of those that thinks Football doesn't exist outside of Europe? lol

He's got his badges and is clearly qualified to be the referee. Where he is from is totally irrelevant and I can't believe I have to point that out to people with the capability of turning on a computer.

Slight different between qualifying for under 8s on a Sunday to the Fifa World Cup.  :giggle:

One game with at least four awful decisions, all in favour of the host nation

Croatias 'goal' wasnt a goal. The ref blew his whistle way before the ball got crossed into the box if you see. Yes it wasnt a pen but whos to say brazil wouldnt have scored anyway especially with croatias awful goalkeeper. Croatia will still go through anyway and I fancy Mexico to get a point against Brazil.
