Voll Blau Posted 30 June 2014 Posted 30 June 2014 Blackburn Town FC is a new football club, founded in 2014 by Blackburn Rovers supporters who want to create a democratically-run community club. We are a club that is run by its members, is forward-looking and non-profit making. While we take some inspiration from the success of clubs such as AFC Wimbledon, and while we are a fans' club, we are not a protest group and do not have any formal associations with Blackburn Rovers FC. While we hope many Rovers supporters adopt us as their "second club", we do not wish to take support away from Rovers. We are Rovers fans at heart and always will be. We are simply inspired to establish a new football club that, while following in the traditions of Blackburn Rovers in terms of facilitating community participation, marks a departure from the way Rovers has been run in recent years. We aspire to become a model of how a democratically-run football club can benefit and serve the local community. In a hectic first few weeks, our energies have been focused o creating the structure of the new club. However, in the longer-term, we have ambitious plans. We have a vision to be the premier non-league football club in Blackburn, and we hope to apply to play in the North West Counties Football League in 2015/16. As a not-for-profit organisation, every penny invested in the club will be used to develop the club and enable us to fulfil our vision. We also hope to be instrumental in raising money for local charities. In order for us to be successful, we need the support of our community and members. Membership costs £10 and allows you the opportunity to become an owner and shape the club's future. If you're going to set up a protest club at least have the bottle to do it properly. Maybe they should be trying to lobby for Blackburn Rovers to be fan owned instead of this venture?

purpleronnie Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 It will be difficult enough to finance the club in the first place, how are they going to sustain or develop the club if they have pledged to give their money away instead of re-invest it in the club.

Finnaldo Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 In a similar vein, Hinckley AFC are playing their first friendly at Heather St. John's, their new groundsharers. They'll be playing in the Midland Football League at Non-League Step 6, which is great considering the first meeting was only back in December. So far they've sorted the club model (community club: no one owned; fan owned), the constitution, the badge, the kit, the management and coaching team, and so far 14 players for the new season. So if you can manage, going down to Heather today for the match you can get a first look at the team as well as becoming a member and having a say in any change in board/chairman

It's no different to any other *new club* without a connection to a bigger team. Just seems a bit odd to me. Why not support already existing non-league clubs as well as Liverpool or Blackburn? FC United I understand, they're protesting against all the trappings of the modern game, the way Manchester United is run etc. AFC Liverpool is just giving people who can't afford to go and watch Liverpool a team with that name to see every week without actually questioning the reasons why it is they can't pop to Anfield every Saturday - saying they're not opposed to Liverpool's owners. I've been to one of their games, the fans were a bit weird. FC United lot in general seemed a lot more clued up when I went to one of their matches.

The freedom to direct your own destiny? In particularly near Blackburn, a good chunk of the non league clubs are supported by businessmen with an eye on spending themselves silly. I know from my own experience over the summer; a lot of established non leagues clubs are so old fashioned at board level.
