Congratulations Bochum! What a comeback. That Asano who came off the bench on the right wing is rapid btw!

Bloody cool penalty as well.

Hope tonight may have sparked an interest for some of you on here to go over next season and experience the amazing warm welcome our friends will provide for you.

I promise you'll have the time of your life.

To echo this, still gets talked about in my friendship as one of the best experiences ever. 26 of us went on my stag and the hospitality we were given by the fans was incredible.

GET THE FUCHS IN!!!!

Don't cancel the Hamburg or Berlin plans though - it'll just be at St Pauli and Union instead!

Two grounds I'd prefer to HSV and the Olympiastadion in fairness. I need to get over there. Been promising myself for years!

For anyone going to the Euros basing yourself around the Rhur, the Bermuda3eck in Bochum is genuinely as good as you'll get for boozing in that region. Might not be as packed with other fans as Dusseldorf for example, but that might be what you're looking for. Bonus of the best beer in the region too

If you're there swing into Mandragora at the end of the main drag, owner is a massive Leicester fan and will give you a big welcome.

En route there now mate.

Will drop in for a drink. Got the flag with me so I'll try and get a photo with him

I really like that some Leicester fans are friends with some Bochum fans. But I’d like to know how the initial interaction happened. Was it random or planned? I’m still not certain whether the initial clubs are just coincidence, or whether Leicester and Bochum actually matter.

If that’s as good as you’ll get I’d like to try it. Dortmund was brilliant, Munich is something else so far

A 17 year old at the time was over on weekend ground hopping. Ended up in a pub pre match near the ground, got chatting and boozing together then never looked back.

Numbers and something likely daft like myspace at the time swapped and a few weeks later the hospitality is this time shown over here at away games vs Millwall and West Brom.
16 years later the lad still goes and its just much bigger.

Ah that’s pretty cool, very organic friendship.

Hope you enjoyed meeting JK yesterday @Ashley. An absolutely top bloke.

He is mate.

Potentially going back there next week as I'm taking my lad out to Germany with me. Doing the German national football museum and I asked JK about going to see VfL Bochum ground.

I'd be up for going over next Season if dates work out too?!

Great stuff. Sure him or someone he knows would be able to sort you for getting into the ground. And definitely get involved next season!

Set aside a whole afternoon for the Football Museum too! Brilliant place.

I know one of the ground staff so likely can help. But to be honest it is the sort of club where just asking on the day or finding a magic door will see you in.

What's the best way of getting there? The flight options to Dortmund and Dusseldorf are surprisingly limited. Or is it better to go via Eurostar and Thalys?

Airport options are Cologne, Dortmund or Dusseldorf. Since covid a lot of routes to Germany have gone so most now seem

to end up doing Cologne.

Eurostar via Brussels and Cologne is more enjoyable if you have the time and don't mind spending a bit extra.

It's more about the logistics really. Getting from Lincolnshire to Bochum for Saturday morning when I don't knock off work until 3.30, and can't get the time off, is surprisingly tough. It means I'll be dependent on a game being moved to Sunday or Monday over half term.

Got you.

Plenty get moved to Sundays, or even Saturday evenings, in the Bundesliga.
