DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 After a dreadful year in which I was unable to get to a game since the end of October and having to watch our progress to the championship via what little was shown on TV, I have actually got a little time and have spent a few days catching up on the forum. After a very confident season last time out it is going to be fun to see how we go this year, no season ticket so unlikely to get to many games, but as every game is likely to be on TV somewhere, it looks like the pub or the armchair for me this season. Impressions so far, Decent and competitive start but only 2 points, not unexpected but we need a win or two to get going. We must not relax against the lower profile teams in the games coming up Very pleased with the transfer dealings, some quality, some depth and hopefully not too much to disrupt the team ethic, which seems to be great. Several 'squad' players have stepped up in the last week or two, very impressive. Like Ulloa a lot, and Schlupp looks like a different player. The management team came on leaps and bounds last season, need to step up again this, but for the moment, it looks like they are capable of doing so. Actually quite excited. That just about sums it all up, nicely.
Corky Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 I know everyone is trying to be helpful, but anything much happened that is football related? After being promoted that is....... Depends what you want. Do you want to know about potential and missed signings? Improvements in certain players?
Guest MattP Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 Having sat through the lean years of negative football, it's a shame you've missed the glorious season and encouraging start to a Premier League season. I'd say it's just deserves given he was openly shouting about wanting the people who created that wonderful season to be dismissed from their jobs a few months before it.

Thanks MattP, even though not strictly true there is a degree of Karma in what you say. My considered opinion was always that NFP got it horribly wrong after our great start to the 2012/13 season and needed 'help' with tactical and matchday matters, I suggested a new first team coach. Whilst I have no insight into what goes on inside the club, it does look as if such 'help' has appeared from inside the club, Shakespeare and Walsh appear to be much more involved and maybe the DOF has taken part of the load..... Whatever has happened, it has worked remarkably well so far, with the club looking more professional in almost every aspect, I thought the transfer window went remarkably well in the end and our setup and tactics look spot on so far.
weller54 Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 You missed the Cambiasso thread. Lucky sod. ...and the Fanni thread!

Welcome back.I think Shakespeare and Walsh have always been heavily involved. It's more that the three of them took stock together last summer and possibly the scouting and sports science departments have improved. Even saying that, you will only get scouting, sports science and even Shakespeare and Walsh mentioned more when we're doing well. They are to thank but equally, a manager tends to stand alone and get the flak publicly when things go badly on the pitch even if nothing has changed off it.

Ugh. 'What happened' is exactly what the majority of us said would happen while you were talking nonsense. Nigel Pearson's talented young side were given another year to develop together, we added a few experienced players, and as many of us expected we stormed the Championship. It's not because he got 'extra help' He made the odd mistake, you slated him for it. He guided us to one of the best seasons we've ever had, and he deserves the credit for that. Welcome back.

Maybe they are just getting better with age and experience, as I said, I really do not know what goes on behind the scenes. Be interesting to see how we all feel after a few months of tough Premiership action.

Be interesting to see how we all feel after a few months of tough Premiership action. Agreed. I think a few people are getting a bit too excited given we haven't won a game yet. Things look promising but we haven't proven an awful lot so far other than not getting embarrassed against tough opposition.
ScouseFox Posted 3 September 2014 Posted 3 September 2014 you've missed riyad mahrez joining and becoming probably the second best player in the world. and nearly beating germany in the world cup by himself. those were the days.

Absolutely, we need a couple of wins in the next few games to really show we mean business.
